The kit has the dash molded in. Since my plan is to attached the separate windscreen and roof before final painting the dash would have been very difficult to paint. So using a jewelers saw I cut it lose from the body.
Thanks Jason. Having owned a few(!) 1:1 914s you will notice some derivations from absolute accuracy. However I am trying to be as fathful to the original as I can.
Thanks Marcos.
Thanks Dave. Your avatar photo makes me laugh. I remember cutting forks off old bikes and pounding them on the end of our bikes to make "choppers". Too funny.
I got a little heavy handed when I fist created the flairs and they ended far too wide. It may be hard to tell but if you compare the two photos you will see that I have narrowed them to and they now look much more accurate.
The molded in box is what the kit provides for a battery. Some .060 angle and sheet plastic to fabricate a battery shelf along with a parts box battery and we have a much better representation.
The kit interior included a molded-in passenger seat similar that on the left. I needed to remove it to create a stripped down racing interior. After grinding it out I infilled the opening with various styrene shapes. The black seat on the right is a proper racing seat which will mount to the seat rails that have been installed.
Here I have added the tierod tunnel and the front suspension mounting points. I have mocked up a roughy painted front suspension from an old built-up for comparsion to the kit chassis.
Work continues on the chassis. I have ended up rebuilding the entrire rear clip. The original kit chassis is on the left with the new chassis on the right. Everything in white plastic has been scratch built. Also a quick mockup comparing the kit engine to Fujimi's
Oscar, thanks for the posting. I build racecars almost exclusively and in particular vintage racecars. I try to work from original photos of the cars as they raced in lieu of restored car photos when ever possible.
