  1. Ah Yes!!!... Gotta keep it neat at all times, but it does get messy!!!! Good stuff being posted guys, keep them coming.
  2. No Tamiya Fine Surface Primer in a 20 mile radius and a whole bunch of stuff in transit from the manufacturer, it would be a few days before I can work on this... Happy easter everyone.
  3. Thank you Tommy, it is the first time using carbon ever so I wouldn't know who is the best in the market, but I found a page called Scale Motorsports and their product seems of a very good quality... Placed an order a few days back but now I have to wait for it so that I can wrap the chassis to continue.
  4. Followed the printout of the carbon sheet online and decided to go ahead and paint the chassis... Used Metallic Black instead of the Semi-Gloss so that it looks a bit more realistic. A bit twitchy but I think is OK all things considered I have to find a small sheet of Green Smoke Carbon fiber to install in the rear (According to specs).
  5. Thank you Jim. Primed the chassis... Not sure if I should wait for the carbon fiber kit before beginning to paint it... Itchin' !!!!
  6. Thanks Tommy, I just felt the words Fluorescent and Mercedes just don't mesh well together... Well maybe the MacLaren Mercedes Orange and Silver would be nice but I'm sure I will ruin it if I try to make lines and stuff. This made me really happy though!!!... Back on track boys
  7. Please "Dont Freak Out"... This was just a test using a damaged body I'm not feeling it, it looks like a ricer car.
  8. Thanks Paul... I'm going to go to the hobby shop tomorrow to stare at the paints and see if something pops out. Guys, I just added a new word to my vocabulary "Livery": A vehicle that denotes a relationship between the wearer of the livery and an individual or corporate body... It looks like this build calls for some Monster Energy Livery I also gained a new motto V V V V V
  9. Thanks Mike, been thinking about that all afternoon... As little as my wife may know about cars, she has a valid point (And for sure you do as well). Always liked the fluorescent colors combined with carbon parts but at the same time I have to think about the brand of the car... That transports me towards a metallic red or something of that nature.
  10. Dont get your hopes too high guys, I'm like a kid with crayons right now... My wife walked into the studio earlier today and saw the car on the display... She said I should make it Yellow, or Red and in her own words "Even Pink" IOI Do you think I will ruin the project if I were to consider a custom color???... Just sayin'
  11. *** RESEARCH *** Here are a few photos of the exact replica Sauber Mercedes in 1/12 scale, this model sold in Motor bids for $ 2,500.00 If I can manage to get at least the decals to look that nice, I'll be extremely happy!!!
  12. Thanks 935k3 The body has been primed and set on the cabinet... Should be ready to go by the time the paint gets here.
  13. Thanks for the advice, the car will have a clear coat.
  14. Does someone you know if there are big differences between the 1988 and the 1989 kits?... Just trying to figure out if the Carbon fiber decals would fit both models.
  15. Not completely happy with the fit of the engine bay door... The whole body is sanded and ready to be primed tomorrow I have a lot of confidence on the Tamiya primer (Mainly because is the only one I have ever used), but I have here the Model Masters Metalizer Sealer, has anyone ever used it?, is the product recommended by Donn Yost on his modeling video tutorials.
  16. Yup, I figured a second after posting the reply... Loads of WIP photos coming right out!!! I'm pretty sure you will get them out of the boxes soon, super excited just seeing the parts in it. By the way, I have heaps of great good friends in Australia. Thank you for the advice, you are absolutely right, the correct Mercedes color is the TS-17... I will keep the Metallic for smaller parts. Deep end indeed!!!... Ordered the Carbon Fiber kit from Scale Motorsports (Also their Photo Etched kits before I realized the kit had one inside). Never done Photo Etch or Carbon before so I'm kind of freaking out just thinking about it. Ah!!!, on top of everything... I received a message from Estrada saying the decals are in back order and would be a couple weeks before they get them in
  17. Thank you Randy, I found the Table Top page on Facebook and subscribed...
  18. Thanks John, I don't know what WIP pics are but I'm planning on keeping a close update as I go EDIT: "Work In Progress" Duh!!!
  19. Yes, the 1st, 2nd 3rd finish back in 1989 was probably the pinacle for Peter Sauber as far as Le Mans goes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TW_A9FiNFWk
  20. Found the decals!!!!... Also found the Tamiya TS-83 Metallic Silver 1400 for the body which is getting harder and harder to find locally lately
  21. Fresh out of a very mediocre build I have decided to stop whining about being new to the hobby or the lack of abilities to give a shot to a new project... Always been a Sports Car fanatic so I have picked a Le Mans model, the 1989 Sauber Mercedes C9 Looked around for the specific model shown above (Tamiya SKU 24091), but it looks like is a vintage model that was replaced with the 1988 AEC Olympia Sauber (Tamiya SKU 24310), so I ended up purchasing it instead with the hope that I could find the decals while I build it. Ah!!! Yes, in case you are wondering... I always buy two sets (Some times three) IOI Thank you for reading.
  22. This is my workbench as of Saturday night... Pretty basic but I have just gotten into this hobby a couple months back (My modeling experience is limited to the two cars you see on top). Lots of nice ideas to make it better by watching this thread.
  23. Allow me to start by saying this has probably been the best one hour read I've had had in a long, looong... loooong time. This is without a doubt a craftsmanship work of art, the attention to detail and Joe's ability to create from scratch is truly amazing AND I have apologize if these words come across as a bit intense but you see, I'm new to this hobby and found myself reading through this forums trying to find ways to make my box stock building skills better, so finding something like this is overwhelming to say the least!!! (Not to mention what is going to take on the road ahead to accomplish something of this level). Finding stuff like TRD and Scale Motorsports sure takes box stock building to a whole new level (Still have to go back a few pages to find Jim's info for future needs). The thread has been marked, I hope Joe's hand gets better soon, can't wait to read more about the project. Thank you.
  24. I'm fairly new to this hobby and I was wondering if there are any active Clubs or Members in the South/Central Florida area... Made a quick search but all I could find was a Club located in Ocala (Which is about 3 hours from Miami)... As a matter of fact, I believe they are having a show called the Sunshine Challenge today (Found out too late to assist). The only other thread shown in the search is from back in 2011. I would also like to know if there are any major shows, swap meets or even seminars in this area... Or National events worth traveling. If you feel you are in the same situation and want to start something from scratch, please feel free to posts your comments. Thank you for reading.
