  1. Good stuff Tomo... At this pace, you will have three or four kits built in a couple months (Please add me to that list ). A couple weeks back I learned from a fellow member the use of markers to make the console buttons, but yours sure look a lot better, how do you paint these?
  2. Yeah!!!!... Don't ask me why, but I swear I had you in the 40 year old bracket Good luck restoring it, it is really fun to drive.
  3. that is a nice one Oscar... Good luck. Slow progress at this end, taking all the time with each piece.. I'm loving the quality of the Cartograph decals even though most of them seem either a bit too short or a bit too long. What are you guys up to?
  4. Pretty basic Jonathan... One shelve panel, One tool box liner, A fraction of a wood moulding stripe, PVC Electric tape, Metallic tape and a couple nails.... Only took 2 hours Always wanted to make a big Diorama, I'm talking a full table piece... One of these days when the stuff being built comes out looking right, I may just make a quick claim of the dinning room and spend my last years playing with it... Something like this (Only mine would have a tunnel):
  5. The engine is coming along nicely Jonathan Tomo that GR5 has been batting her eyes at me for a couple weeks now This is not directly related to this thread, is not up to scale and is a quick fix, but I was just growing tired of not having a place to take photos of the finished models (Nice weekend project too).
  6. Yeah!!!... I always wanted to build that Impresa (Not sure what is it about that car but my die cast collection has them all... Even the electric track version ). Oscar, build the NSX, other than the PIAA and the 64 on the doors the decals are pretty straight forward, and the kit itself is a standard Tamiya build; The Hood slats are similar to the ones on the Supra (They fall right in place) and the small wings in the front are easy to attach with CA glue... I started this project and left it aside (Mainly because it has the Raybrig decals and they are extremely hard to apply), but some day in the near future I look forward to finish it... Really like the NSX Did it in Blue Violet (As instructed by Tamiya) but the color was too dark... So I decided to do a custom color (Blue with Red wheels instead)... Right after I finishing painting the blue body I realized I had forgotten to glue the exhaust panels on the side Good stuff gary...
  7. Oscar, is your Impressa the Blue Rally Edition?. Good stuff Ken
  8. Thanks guys... Brought some materials from the Depot for a memorial weekend project
  9. Bring it John... Jonathan had the greatest idea of creating this thread, this site sure could use a whole lot more GT and race builds
  10. Welcome Arnold, everyone interested in joining has a full year to produce any Race Car build...
  11. Yes Rob, from a logical view it would have been common sense to do it like that, but you would certainly need "some sort of deal with the devil" to be able to hold the slat with the tweezer while having the body upside down and be able to reach that far down with a little dot of CA at the tip of the toothpick... . Keep in mind the nose is a lot wider at the bottom and the slats are supposed to be overlapping each other. The excess of glue is mainly because I lack the skill but at the same time, I use Medium strength tire glue which is also CA but gives you about 10 seconds before locking... Because of its composite, you can break it of (Or sand it) because it does not melt the plastic like Crazy Glue or similar CA glues would do. On a separate note, right after going outside to curse in frustration, smoking a couple cigarrettes back to back and drowning a cup of coffee, I came back to my bench to deal with the problem at hand I had to cut the decals in half because they are a bit longer than they need to be, but I sure feel much better now!!!
  12. Meeeh.... JINXED IT!!!. The next one FAILED totally , the setter will work only if applied once the decal is in place, if you brush some of it over the body before applying the decal they will be greatly stretched. there is always tomorrow.
  13. Polished out.... It looks a whole lot better in person. I know is not much but the decals on this thing are kind of like in the Supra, lots of bumps and just this one took me over 15 minutes to install. Is a bit off center and may need some more setter to get a couple little creases out but I FINALLY DID IT!!!).
  14. Windows are up, lights are on... Just need to install the mirrors, the rear piece with the round caps and the decals on the tires. Will try to take some outdoor photos soon.
  15. Jonathan, the engine in alcald aluminium looks awesome.... Tomo the Nissan is coming along great (At this rate you'll have a hand full by the end of the year). Way to go guys!!! Ken I have a set of wheels (No tire decals), it came off an Opel Astra... If you want it you can have it for whatever you feel is fair. I also have a few extra kits that were left over from previous builds, they are all open box but complete and in perfect shape in case someone likes to jump into GT mode (Please feel free to PM if interested). (Sorry moderator, didn't mean for this to sound like a "for sale" offering"... Just trying to help).
  16. Very cool Jonathan, Is amazing how Tamiya kits look so nice right out of the box, that kit looks like is ready for primer (I could've sworn I had already posted this sentence IOI). A bit of a long post since the site has been off for most of the day: I have decided to change my name to either "Sander Sanderson" or "Ritchie Polisher" and YES my arm hurts!!!. The very next step kind of freaked me out just by looking at it And I honestly have to say SimilR really made a mistake making these Slats in photo etch instead of regular plastic... I know they are not properly installed but they looked "REALLY" bad!!! (PLUS they are supposed to be in the same color of the body duh!). So decided to just take them off and spent an additional 45 minutes sanding out the cyanoacrylate glue residue (I figured "anything" -even leaving a hole- would look better). Primed it... AND Painted it...
  17. Thank you Jeremy... Polishing the plastic may seem as overkill, but is undeniable that we all leave sanding marks and sometimes even glue residue; according to the mentor, these are the main reason for having lemon peel and fish eyes on the final finish... And it makes sense too, I use spray cans and BELIEVE ME, I'm not so good at it either, but the results seem to be above the average joe, so maybe this is one of the reasons???
  18. Oscar ... Sounds like the Renault 5 Turbo experience. This is as close as I could get it to fit... Is heavy on glue and not sanded yet; I spent a few days dreaming about this car, the least I can do now is try no? Will let it dry overnight and get on the pads tomorrow
  19. They were fully installed by Tetsuo and to be honest I still wonder how was even possible that he was able to get away with it without ruining a single decal!!!... It requires a special skill and why not, hands of silk. Extremely happy with them cant wait to fit them into each chassi.
  20. I don't have any GT cars complete in my stash other than the two NSX kits, but I have read in other forums and the decals are a major deal!!! (For my skill level at least)... The SimilR kit is extremely basic, it would probably take me a week to complete "IF" proper doses of caffeine are provided IOI... But the fact that there are so many small pieces to attach at level with the main body (That dont seem to fit or at least match) makes me feel like I will end up ruining them both. So I rather wait for a near future when I have gotten potty trained. Don't get discouraged Oscar, it may be true some cars are more difficult than others, but at the end of the day, is a necessary process to learn the required skill no? Jonathan this is A W E S O M E ! ! ! ! ! Tomo, I will take some photos tomorrow and PM them to you.
  21. Significant progress with the bodies... I'd like to take this opportunity to thank my friend Tetsuo Uyeda for his help with these, bud if you are reading these words, THANK YOU!, I could not have done them without you.
  22. Change of plans over here... Did some sanding and fitting to the Pescarolo but the kit will require the use of putty on several body parts to make them fit correctly (The body is made out of nine different parts to make a unibody and only two of them align correctly); never been able to use the putty successfully (Maybe I just dont know how to use it), so I'm still debating if I should go back to the original plan of building the NSX (Which seems to have the same decal issue of the Supra), or just skip these and move onto something a bit less complicated... Suggestions?
  23. Very good Tomo. I meant to ask if you want me to send photos (Like we did with the Red Toyota) for this particular model.... May be too late?
  24. Jonathan It was an extra expense, but always have to get two (Something gets ruined for sure)... These were nearly half price compared to all the other sellers (That is why I had to jump on them). AND if you guys like group modeling I'm pretty sure one of my future builds is the Xanavi Nismo GTR. The Simil R kit is extremely basic, the one thing I dont like is the body being a two part.
