Another outing for that six banger from the AMT ' 60 Fleetside kit. The idea was to do a Bel Air, with as low level of trim as possible. So all it got to have was the molded in rocker trim, and bumper guards for options. The Firestone blackwalls came from one of my old AMT kits. I added plug wires and heater hoses, and painted it Tropical Turquoise. The interior is turquoise/dark green. I stole the photo etched pieces from yet another AMT Pro Shop kit.

Built from an MCW ' 61 Catalina. For those not familiar with the Canadian variant, GM sold Pontiacs in Canada built on the Chevrolet platform. Looked like a Pontiac, but underneath it was all bowtie. The Canadian Parisienne shared the same style of body trim as the Bonneville. The Catalina's trim was used on the Strato Chief, and even though in the U.S. the Star Chief was a four door model, it's trim was put on the Laurentian. That's what my parents came home with in December of 1960, their second and last new car. So underneath the MCW body is the entire chassis, rear end, exhaust and suspension from a Lindberg ' 61 Impala. It donated it's cowl as well, which was grafted to the resin body after some careful surgery. The car needed to have parallel action wipers, just like the Chevy. The straight six and three speed was donated by the AMT ' 60 Fleetside kit. Inner fenderwells are from the ' 62 Catalina. Bumpers were done with Alclad. The color is Shelltone Ivory over Dawnfire Mist.

Built from the Monogram 1/24 kit. Michaels had the Testors One Coat Star Spangled Blue on for about three bucks a can, and I thought it would look nice on this ragtop. The only thing not from the box is the wheels. They're from the ' 93 Mustang Cobra kit.

A couple shots of the engine, and the spartan interior.

Build to replicate a real car we owned briefly, around the time I started first grade. That ' 57 had been a V8, then converted to a later model six/auto, so I used the six with powerglide from a Trumpeter ' 63 Nova. Swiped the back seat from a ' 57 Pro Shop kit, as well as the photo etched grill, locks, scripts, emblems, etc.

Here's a few interior and outdoor shots, though it was too cloudy for good pics.

Done from the latest re-issue (that orange plastic? Blech! ) Left off the stripes and added a vinyl roof, instead. Paint is Tamiya metallic red

Thanks everyone! The color is Testors Boyds Pacific Blue, and the roof is done in Krylon satin almond. Whole thing was clearcoated with Rustoleum.

Thanks everyone! Dave, here's a few shots of the interior build, from mockup to finish.

After posting some stuff I'd finished, I thought I'd share my current project, just started this past weekend. The body was done with six coats of Tamiya TS-12 orange, and three coats of clear. I did the foil scripts prior to painting, and cleaned them off carefully with some lacquer thinner. The interior will be white seats and panels, with woodgrain accents on the black dash and console. I'm still debating whether or not to use some black stripe decals on the hood and trunk. It won't be stock in the long run, and I am going to add a photo etched SS badges to the center of the back panel, as well as the fenders. I doubt I'll use the rally rims in the kit, so the search is on for the perfect wheels. A slight rake in the back and some fat tires, those are definitely on the menu!

Totally sharp, and very cool!

Another that was on my wish list for a long time, and lucky for me I was able to find one of the annuals, that had an engine. It still had functional working lights, too. Even after forty five years.

Nice conversion, Richard! Hard to believe someone could alter a ragtop and come up with that, but it obviously worked! And builds of actual cars, especially ones a person has owned, are a great subject!

I loved this kit, and need to get my hands on another one. This was done from memory, trying to replicate a car that used to reside here in the city. The powerplant is from the Revell ' 69 Nova.

This has to be one of AMT's best efforts from the ' 70's. I built countless renditions of this kit as a youngster. But it wasn't until thirty years later when I decided to do one as stock as possible, that I realized how close they came to getting this one almost perfect. Except for the tires and side mirror from a Revell ' 57 Bel Air, it's box stock.
-
From a few years ago. I bought this sealed as well, and kept it aside 'til I learned how to do a few things, paint stuff first and foremost. I lucked out, and the paint came out near flawless. So, well worth the wait. Totally box stock except for foil and flocking.

Another great effort amongst Revell's recent releases. The only part that really sucked was the decals. I hand painted the whitewalls on this one, instead. The color is Duplicolor Cordova brown, with Krylon burgundy and almond for the interior.

The first thing I completed last year, and probably the nicest fitting kit I've ever done. I was trying to copy a restored car I found pics of.
-
I wanted one of these for a long time, and also knew I wanted to try and create a replica of a 1:1 car that used to reside here in the city. Except for the fact that the real thing ahd a 390 and not a 427, I did this one up the same. The kit was still sealed when I got it. The engine came from the Revell Thunderbolt, and the firewall was painted red to show off the detail better. Other than some minor interior trim embellishments, it's box stock.
-
I knew from the start this kit was going to be street machine fodder, which is just as well, as trying to build it stock would have drove me nuts. So, with no rules to follow as to what's correct or what's not, I made it as incorrect (and fun!) as I possibly could. Under the hood is the 427 from a Revell Thunderbolt, wired and plumbed. Tight fit, but it was do-able. Most of the front of the engine, as well as the intake came from an AMT ' 67 Galaxie kit. The wheels and the sidepipes are from the Thunderbolt as well.

Thank you, Monty. As I said, you can "blame" fury3. He's well known from that other forum, and convinced me to give this one a try. I do have a few more builds to share, as well.
-
Dang, I guess trying to hide out here from those alien abductors wasn't the swiftest idea. Thanks for the compliments, everyone!

Another of last years builds, and probably one of my favorites. I had this kit for close to three years, 'til I finally found pics of a car done up these same colors. Once I saw the orange and black combo, I knew that's how I wanted to do mine. I added ignition wires, heater hoses, a photo etched rad cap, and the exhaust tips from a Revell ' 68 Charger, just for a little more snazz.

I believe the wheels are the same. The ones in the ' 76 reissue look identical to me.
