  1. Finally got some clear on the Nova. I will let it set up for a week or so before I polish and then make the sun roof, bmf, put it all together etc... Thanks for looking.
  2. Got some paint on the Willys. Purple-licious. I will let is set a few days before I spray some clear. Thanks for looking.
  3. Stopped at my local Hobby Lobby on Friday and picked up these two kits and a few cans of paint. There was not much left on the clearance shelf but I have wanted the viper kit and I grabbed the Camaro with my 40% coupon. Today I stopped at the local Pat Catans and grabbed this 57' Nomad, it was only $15 so I had to get it. Since getting back into the hobby I am learning that when you see a kit/s that you want and if you can afford it get it/them the first time you see them. I am already on the hunt for a few kits that I wish I would have bought when I first saw them because now I can't find them at my local stores. I guess I will have to order them online.
  4. Sweet!!! Is it in Castle Shannon? If so that is only a few mins from me. Maybe I will be able to pick up a few kits and parts : ) Please post more info when you get it.
  5. Since I am just getting back into it after 20+ years when I started looking at kits I had sticker shock, not to mention how hard it is to find kits stores in anymore. The most I have paid for a kit is around $26 and I think my limit would be $50 and that would have to be a very special kit. I did stop at hobbytown over the weekend and spent $50 on paint and some other supplies but to me those supplies will be used on a few models so that total 50 doesn't count toward the price of one build.
  6. Hey everybody, its been a while since I have had any bench time. Just a quick cell phone pic. I have the interior done and the chassis is done also. Tonight I started working on the body to get it ready to paint, there is going to be a lot of sanding on this one. Oh well thats part of the fun! I hope to get some more time and get a couple of cars(this one and the 69 Nova) 99% done this weekend. Thanks for looking.
  7. Welcome Joe!!! I'm from Da Burgh too, Brentwood to be exact.
  8. Thanks guys. I hope to get some more done this weekend.
  9. Nice build Eric, I am working on one of these right now. I second your comment about this kit being an easy build and everything going together well. Great work!
  10. Very cool build, I have one of these kits on deck so I will be watching this one.
  11. This is another box stock build while I wait on the paint to cure on the Nova. It will be a pretty quick build, maybe even get the body in primer this weekend. The kit is nice with not much flash and its going together pretty smoothly. Thanks for looking and as always comments welcome. Some painted parts Engine just needs touch up and some wash Chassis together
  12. Well finally got the first coat of paint on. Its just rattle can silver. Came out ok for my first paint job. Question.....should I sand before I clear or after?
  13. Don't think I will have much time to get any work done on the bench today unless its really late tonight but here is my 41' Willy's in progress and the first coat of paint on my 69' Nova
  14. I am not worried about modeling as a hobby going away in my lifetime. I feel the hobby does gain new builders just not as fast or as many as it did in the past. I do think that not having models in department stores has hurt the hobby by not exposing a would be builder to the hobby when they are just out doing their everyday shopping. That is one thing that I was surprised by when, getting back into the hobby after 20+ years and going into Kmart and not finding one model. I do have access to many "hobby" shops in my area and I'm lucky that even my local WalMart does carry kits and a few supplies. With out exposure to the hobby either by family, friends, etc... how do future builders even know about modeling? I agree with you completely Bruce!! I am afraid that we are losing, or have already lost, generations that do not know how to make anything by hand. Shop classes are being cut right and left and even when there are classes there is not the interest there once was. I am all for progress but its sad when I think that we have lost generations that have lost that way of thinking, skills, ability, desire to build something with their own hands. If you have a chance read the book "Shop class as soul craft"
  15. I don't think he is saying that something is off, Anne, he is just saying that if there is something you are not completely happy with you can "hide" it and move on.
  16. Very cool!! Can't wait to see it finished!
  17. Dash looks good, keep going.
  18. I like the color combo. Its cool to see "out of the box" color combos. I'm building a Nova myself right now but it is based on a 1:1 that my Grandma had when I was a kid. Keep building and have fun!!!! What is your next build going to be?
  19. LOVE Trosley's artwork!!!! I remember his work in CARtoons magazine.
  20. Cool color! My uncle has a jeep that color. Can't wait to see more.
  21. WOW Skip, thats crazy!!! Thanks for the tip. I will keep my eyes out for a mini and if I find one before I am ready to make my own top I will give it a shot.
  22. Very cool work. Looks like a lot of different tones of red on the 1:1 photos. I'm sure you will figure it out. You are taking on way more than I would for a first build, props to you for diving in. Hope to see more progress, looks like it will be an awesome build.
  23. Way to many, just ask my fiance....lol. Woodworking is my big one, cycling of all kinds, photography, play guitar, read, etc....
  24. I am pretty sure that I am going to do it shut. Making it open is a little bit out of my skill level just yet. I am going to make a "frame" for the top and cover it somehow. Another reason I am going to do it shut is because, like Jimmy said, they leaked like a sieve. I only remember us having it open once or twice and every time it would rain hard it would leak bad. Thanks for looking.
