On the other hand, while we have the wants, whims, dreams, etc. If I were buying a rig I would NOT choose anything they do, but when someone else is paying for it, than it doesn't matter really what it is.

Thanks for the info Tim. I may do that Gulf Oil thing. I'll look it up. Clayton, I hope so too, or I just found out they are also running Pete's too just not alot of them. I just hope I don't end up with a Volvo. I guess a FL wouldn't be too bad but, from what I've seen the fleet freightilners are pretty much garbage. Though I think the Pete's are in refrigerated, which runs out of Idaho. Dry Van runs out of Portland here. I just talked to them today and got the initial stuff of the paperwork done. I scored 93% on my practice test for general and 100% on the airbrake practice test.

I thought about the loco, but they are so danged expensive. Same with the diecast stuff, several hundred dollars. -
AMT Flatbed trailer
fantacmet replied to plugger's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well for my flatbed I'm debating about either the beam that comes with the logging trailer or a giant pipe(which I have and it's painted up). Trying to find some kind of equipment for my lowboy. for my beam trailer I'm using the payhauler 350. -

Well if you fully load a flatbed the rails aren't going to stay arched up. So you could always just load it down with a good load. -
Yeah the springs will vary from the same lift kit more or less depending on what kind of truck and even depending upon the year it's for, which is why I said eyeball it, but if it's a specific setup you could always write the manufacturer of the lift and ask them, most would be happy to help. I've done that type of thing many times.

Gouache, and when it's dry hit it with a brush coat of future. Looks like fresher grease. Though grease that's been smeared on and evened out. -

Well, with the 53 foot reefer I'm building AND the customer super stretch prostar, 4 feet sounds about right for it, and it's going on display in my bedroom(keeps the kids fromd estroying it). -
Need an aluminum paint.......
fantacmet replied to JollySipper's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Testors Model Master Metalizers can be used with a narrow tip airbrush and so can alclads, but aside from those two I second everyone elses opinion on the large tip airbrush. You can try SNJ stuff too. -
In place of them, I've used woodland scenics realistic water, and after it sets up several times to the desired thickness, it won't yellow. Downside is it's expensive, but on the plus side one bottle will do several thousand dollars worth of MV Lenses.

For a so called "plastic truck" I have to say that looks pretty sharp. As for that Datsun/Nissan 720, you never got to see mine. I miss her ALOT. I don't have most of the pics on my computer anymore but thankfully they are available online. about.com actually asked if they could use them for one of their articles. Of course I said YES! Here are some shots of how she looked after I got her and put the first set of tires on.(I did the blue tint on the windows) After I got the second set and had her for awhile.

If there is something specific you are looking at though some of the manufacturers list some of that information on their websites in the spec sheets.

I have next to no scratchbuilding skills, but I've scratched a beam trailer, which you can see in one of my threads about the diamond reo beam trailer and Payhauler. Also scratched and this is the first mention of it on here I believe is a new modern wheel live boom setup for the Chevy Wrecker. Functional as well I might add. It's alot easier to scratch a trailer than it is alot of other things. Might not be perfect, but nothing ever is. I never knew my father(I knew of him and about him he's not a nice guy), but you know yours and I know my own kids, and perfect or not I bet he wouldn't even notice, he'd just love the heck out of it. I say go for it. Grab some ibeams and some other angle stock a miter box and a razor saw and have at it. Just don't forget to post progress pics. -

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot is that thing? Strangely, I like it and I'd drive the living whizz out of it. -

Might any of these be what you are looking for? http://inspectionsticker.net/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=397 Can always resize and print on decal film. -

Looks like RTV to me as well. -
Due to the nature of springs being what they are, different compounds will have different density, thickness of the wire, diameter, etc. Unless you are trying to replicate a specific setup, the eyeball method will be fine. Just like you can take any smallblock chevy engine and put whatever CID inside of it you wish. There are no real bores in the engine. There are no real spring rates that are going to affect performance when you are building a static model. Do what looks good to you is my advice, unless there is something I'm missing, which I admit is entirely possible.

I've got an idea with stacks you might like. They'd have to be 3D printed, but the newest stuff from shapeways is supersmooth I can see ZERO marks on the hookset I had them print. The idea I have is with the optical illusion on the stacks in that inspiration pic. Some kind of cross spiral cut. If I can remember I'll see what I can come up with.

Well i did design a couple of displays that were about a foot long, to be 3D printed, with the angled mirror on the bottom and with or without supports to enclose in glass, but holy cow, you could buy all the tools and wood to build 3 or 4 for the same price. I wanted to offer them up as a nice ready to go display, but for a couple hundred bucks a shot, I'm not going to bother. Though I may them up as plans so if someone wanted to make them out of like basswood or something, they could be copied. For mine I just picked up the wall supports, and 4 foot shelves.

I think I figured it out. If I can afford the sheet plastic I think I'm going to scratch a wrecker body for mine. I've got some 3D Printed chain hooks on the way. I found a single hook online in open domain, so I copied it into a group, and made a sprue, and are having them printed up. I'd offer them up for sale but since I didn't create them, I'm can't do so in good conscience.
