  1. I swear YEARS ago about a year or two after that 50 Chevy came out, I was reading something in TOM(The Other Mag), there was a resin GMC grill for it. These are probably long out of production, but I can't for the life of me remember who it was. I think it was one of the more prominent casters that didn't end up surviving. I think they went under shortly before or after Cheez Cast came about. I'm 90% positive it was Modelhaus.
  2. Sure is. The hooks aren't as big of a deal, but on the eyelets it looks like there is some extra material in there, which I believe is an anomoly of the printing process. Yeah it's unfortunate but not the end of the world. Sometimes you win some you lose some, and Iffin I can't make these work(I plan to try again), I'll find some use for them. I always do. So don't misunderstand I'm not complaining. You did a great job in short order, and the parts themselves look great. I might have been able to do almost as good of a job, BUT it would probably take me about 6 months LOL. Customer graphics on the other hand? Oh yeah it's on. It's possible I'm just not used to working with such small bits when they aren't styrene, and these may work perfectly for someone else.
  3. Dang SWEET. I LOVE it when someone posts something like this. I think this is the second time you've done this in one of my threads. You my Czech friend are awesome.
  4. I know at least the TAP Plastics Quick Cast Resin has been very strong. The biggest weak points with the printed ones are the eyelets where the links go through are not big enough for any link size out there, can't be drilled through, those also break off really easy. The hooks also are too small to slip onto a chain. I might be able to just kind of glue them together and toss them into the little bin or whatever in the truck, but so far I don't think I can put them on the load itself. I can shift the logs around to tighten things up a bit.
  5. Yeah because they sure don't look like 2 inch diameter, and never seen a hose that large into a tank either. Maybe a heater hose.........
  6. I've lost 2 assemblies in 10 minutes, these aren't being used on the logging truck that's for sure. I'll have to figure something else out. As for getting something past the wife for me that's the tough part. She's generally "it's your money spend it how you want." However, back when she was pregnant with our first son, I bought her a handgun and 500 rounds of ammo. She's well aware of how to get the lead where she wants it to go. I do have to tread lightly by default, but I must be doing something right because 9 years later and no extra holes.
  7. Well they showed up today. I have to admit they are nice looking, however they are super friggin TINY. I'll probably have to do some modifications just to get the chain and cable on them. If that doesn't work I'll save them for my armor models. I have no doubt painted and assembled they'll look great.
  8. I ordered some from one of the guys here who has them on shapeways. I got my logs ready to go, went and cut them last night from the tree farm. LOL
  9. Groovy thanks for the info. That last pic does have me a bit perplexed though. Looks like the air supply hose is going into the side of the head or block there.
  10. I spent quite a bit of time perusing the different engines, and didn't come up with much. I don't know WHAT engine is in the Pete 377 kit. Italeri says Caterpillar, but I've only found ONE pic of a Cat engine that looks like this and I think it's Detroit I keep seeing them as. Which sucks because I already painted it a nice yellow. Which is how it's going to stay. On that Cummins in the AMT kit, like you said nothing looks like it at all. On none them actually that I can see. Perhaps some but it appears to be like an oil cooler or something. Sometimes I can be dense when I'm looking for something though. LOL. Stick a Gas engine in front of me, and tell me what you want done I'll do it. You can be vague. Such as give me more power. Or rebuild it, whatever doesn't matter. I know what everything is,w hat it does, how to line everything up, etc. This diesel stuff? HAH. I understand the concepts of how they run and all, but about the only thing I could do to one is if you pointed said that is called X, go replace it. MONGO GO. Now sticking me behind the wheel is another story. While I don't drive one, I haven't run across anything I haven't been able to drive and drive well in under 5 minutes. 30 foot box van, public transportation bus, heavy equipment, forklifts, reach trucks, cherry pickers, anything. Doesn't matter. Just have a knack for it I guess. First time out 4 wheelin, I was able to pick a line and drive it perfectly with no hiccups or anything on a double black diamond trail. The club could hardly believe it(as I could hardly as well).
  11. Ok so plumbing he brakes and tanks is cool and all, but I don't have a clue where the compressors are to supply the air to the tanks. I've got the Pete 352, Transtar 4300, Pete 377 and White Freightliner COE with the NTC-250 Cummins. The instructions seem to label every part BUT the compressor. Also if anyone has any plumbed Cummins ntc-250's if you have any pics they would be appreciated, even if it is gizmology based.
  12. If you are going to go with something like makerbot, might as well hit the thrift store, for some scanners, buy a couple of cheap motors, and arduino copy, and build one yourself for about 150 bucks. Same resolution, in fact mostly the same device just in a not as pretty package. For me depending on what it was I was doing, PLA would work, as I'm perfectly happy just using it as a master. As you said though, resolution leaves something to be desired. Third party printing though is becoming more affordable. Just a couple of years ago, same thing you can do now at shapeways for 5-10 bucks would have cost 50-100. I expect it to get cheaper too., but I also expect a minimum to make it worth it for them.
  13. Do you have to pay to setup with them? How does that work? You get a cut or what? I ask because I've been thinking about doing some things, but larger for a different hobby.
  14. We'll see how this one goes. Ordered a set.
  15. The one w/o link says cant be found.
  16. Well I got refunded, shapeways refused to print it.
  17. Yup higher orders can make the shipping cheap, problem is I have very tight finances, otherwise I'd have no problem ordering them. I ordered some from shapeways this morning that someone uploaded. I don't need operational ones, static will be fine but depending on the strength these could be operational. With just some hooks, it'd be pretty easy to make some of the other style with the ratchet handle. Well relatively speaking of course. The clevises I've already made a few, and I'll be using them on a lowboy that I'm going to be doing as soon as I get the thee 25 dollar gift cards I won at work. Lowboy and truck that is, and styrene to modify it to a front loader but that's a different topic altogether. I may be getting a better paying job here before too long if I'm lucky, and if that happens, I'll definitely be ordering more stuff when I can, but I really like to shop locally. Only thing is the only Hobby shop within 30 miles that does models is Hobbytown, though on the upside it is a locally owned franchise store and not a corporate store. They are even purchasing some locally made model bits, so I may go back into license plate production. I appreciate the info on the dutch site I'll be looking that up for sure.
  18. Ordered the small set, I'll let you know what I think. I wonder if they would be any stronger in Resin? I'll take a look, and if the resin would be stronger I'll talk to you and maybe we can work something out.
  19. I could write a book on single vs dual, I'm that much of a geek, on pros and cons and theory, but I won't. I'd love to put a toolbox on each side between the spread, but I can't see paying that kind of price for the resin, and I've tried and wasted alot of plastic and such trying to make a toolbox, and it just ain't happening. Though I may go ahead and put a skirt in there too. I'm not Canadian, and I trash on Canada alot(just some good fun with the friends I have there so it's only in jest), but I like the way the spreads look, and I also like the way the trailers look with their wheels way out back. Always thought they looked goofy with the wheels way up as far forward as they can go. Though I do understand why it's done that way. Out here though I do see trailers with flexible skirts when I'm driving down the highway(keep in mind I'm not a truck driver, don't have the dough to be able to survive and pay the bills for the family in order to go through the training) sometimes. It's not all the time mind you but overall at least the short trips I take I see more flexible skirts. They appear to be a really heavy rubber or vinyl, and the mounts are pretty short(you can tell by the rivets or lag bolts or whatever that mount the skirts, though there does seem to be some stiff but still flexible supports that extend to the bottom. Unfortunately my wife doesn't drive, and can't take a photo or video to save her life. Maybe one of these days I'll remember to load up the dash cam before I take off. Might be in a couple of weeks, but the freeway trip will be short most of it will be 2 lane highway as I head to the coat on my vacation with the wife. Assuming I've gotten my insurance check by then and gotten my new truck/SUV/whatever.
  20. If these were to be made 3D Printing what do you think the cost would be? I had a thread similar here just last week about securing the log loads.
  21. Yeah Optimus is 100% COMPLETE, and he cost me 25 bucks. Was MINT condition until my kid got ahold of him and my other Original G1 toys except this Optimus is a repop using the original molds. I want to do a model of a truck/trailer in the paint scheme of Optimus. Thanks for the compliments. Trying to think of how to get ahold of or make the chain binders. I also lost the drivers side stack too. DOH, gotta work on digging it up, but if worse comes to worse, I have Vacation from 8th through 12th, and I'll clean up around my desk/workbench real good and find it. Probably rolled underneath one of the stands I have around my workdesk(there we go that's a good term).
  22. Thanks a bunch. I was really thinking of some kind of Green or Blue scheme, but i wanted to use the kit decals. So they look good on yellow.
  23. Hey rookies gotta learn somewhere. I'd probably be better as a rookie about ripping stuff off a rig, because I do alot of 4 wheelin, and unlike most wheelers I DO care about body damage, because while I don't believe in a pavement princess, there's also no reason to destroy a perfectly nice looking rig. Especially when it's also your family hauler, and daily driver. So while I've driven on double black diamond trails I'm careful with my lines and I won't risk destroying anything just to get it through. Even if it isn't my money it's someone elses and they might not appreciate it enough where I may be promoted to customer if I shall ever end up driving. There is a very large Schneider yard here and almost none of their rigs have wheel covers. I can see a fuel savings from these. I had my jeep wrecked a couple of weeks ago, well I've had to keep driving it while waiting for insurance to pay up. Well I had to drive it to my sisters wedding a couple of hours away. So, my jeep was getting 22MPG on the highway, on the way up I was getting about 17MPG, and wondering what was going on. I expect lower mileage this time of year due to the garbage they put in the gas, it's normal. But not that much of a loss. I noticed the plastic cladding on the rear door was catching the air and sticking out from the front kind of scooping it. I pulled over, ripped it off, threw it in the back, and increased to 19MPG. With the kind of power these rigs are putting out, I don't expect to make as much of a difference. Just like a V8 won't lose as much mileage as a 4 cylinder will when the AC is on. There is still a difference and 5% may be low but considering the amount of miles and fuel these rigs go through 5% in one year adds up. So I'm prepared to believe the claims, as long as those numbers don't start rising. I'm doing a spread on my 53' and I just really wanted to get these skirts since it's supposed to be more modern. Since I'm doing it as an owner op custom trailer to match the truck I can get a little creative. Might use actual aluminum.
  24. There are the angled ones under the trailers. When did these start coming into use? Most of the ones I see are some kind of flexible material, but in pics I swear I've seen rigid ones. Some of you on here have made them, what did you make them from, and how did you attach them? It seems to me, it might be kind of an important thing to put on the Moebius 53 foot Reefer. Most modern trailers I see have them.
  25. Trying to think if I want to try and make some or not.
