  1. Handicap, whatever yellow you want to be honest. I'm going to use some sort of rustoleum yellow, or I may go with Red just to be different. Mistermodel, with the low deck and everything it should come in to just at or under 13'6" and I know in Oregon you can go higher, but the beam got me thinking, and I'm converting the lowboy to a beam. I think it will have more visual interest
  2. Ok so I got the California Hauler today, and I've got the Diamond Reo sitting here. As you may know from another thread I've got a Payhauler 350 I was going to stick on a lowboy. Well that lowboy has now become a detachable gooseneck beam trailer. The real question here is which rig would be best suited? I'm not planning to add extra axles(don't have that kind of dough to spare), but I've added about 2 and a half scale feet to the Pete and about 2 to the Reo. Don't think I'll be sticking a sleeper on either one. However I want it to be like someone took some classics and rebuilt them a bit more modern and totally custom perhaps in the 80's. Which one of these is really going to have the more power for pulling that Payhauler? I'd love to do a third axle and use the Pete, but I don't have the parts for a third axle(not even the little single tire on each side steerable/liftable axle though I might be able to pull it off if I could find a pair of wheels/tires), and at 290HP the engine in the Pete seems a little wimpy. Though I suppose since I'm not going to do the tilt hood(thoughit's gotta look good from the underside so no curbside), I COULD take the engine from the Revell W-900(which I'm find doing a total curbside with). Just not sure which way to go with this.
  3. Wow that 4 scale feet doesn't really look like much, in my opinion it makes it look like a "normal" truck, but I know these newer ones they are trying to stuf the trailer right up against the cab. I'm thinking maybe a 5 then.
  4. It's not just amount of plastic and engineering costs to consider. It's volume. Much lower volume of sales means higher price.
  5. Ok well they didn't have any channel the right size. Been out for a couple of weeks, so I got some other stuff to stretch it with. So that photo will be helpful. I suppose the real question is how much of a stretch? I have a couple here I'm doing 2 and 2.5 inches. Maybe go 4? 5? GRIN. BIG TWUCK!
  6. Looking at those frame rails there, I'm wondering if I should just use them as a guide for mounting points and just make new rails with styrene channel.
  7. Tamiya can still bunch but his suggestion minimizes it. Thing to keep in mind is it's a type of rice paper the adhesive is on. The narrower it is the easier it is to conform to curves. I use the heck out of it.
  8. Nice, but not really my style, but it does give me some idea's for another rig. LOL
  9. Hey check out Keith Marks, he will do decal sets, for low production at a reasonable cost. http://public.fotki.com/mofobow/ That's his FOTKI account. Can design a sheet with several sets and then cut them up to save on cost.
  10. I'm doing the same kit, but so far the engine is painted in Krylon Shortcuts sun yellow. LOL. I was seriously thinking about doing it in an almost chartreuse green with purple trim and a Decepticon logo on the door. LOL. Long haul of the constructicons.
  11. So, I went into the shop looking for the international 4300, I was inspired by one in the unique trucks post. Well it was gone, and I had some money and out of anger I just went stupid and bought the Prostar which I can't afford. Oh well life sure is rough. So obviously I'm going to stretch it. It's just too danged short behind the sleeper. I'm going to do it as a custom as well, and I'm going to go ahead and finished up that 53 footer and custom paint that to match. I've decided I'm likely not going to go with black on that trailer, and obviously not the truck. So I was thinking and I'm looking for other thoughts on this as well. 2 tone(DUH). There is a color combo that I have seen on some old Indian motorcycles that is just gorgeous and thought it would look good on this truck and trailer if done right. Main color being a light cream, with a dark red secondary. I would LOVE to do a single giant scallop for it, but no way am I going to get that kind of a mask going on. So thinking cab in the cream, with the sleeper, aero skirts and overhead in the red. Trailer in cream with the red top, bottom edge, and maybe the front and the rear doors. Reefer unit being cream with red grills. I'm picturing this in my head and drooling really. Leaving the grill and bumper chrome, as that combo seems to look good with chrome accents. Opinions on this? I can provide photo's of the motorcycles in this color combo. I think a very thin silver separation line would look good, but due to the complex curves, no idea how I'd make that happen. Going to be tough enough for this paint job. Also if anyone has any tips to look out for or things that shouldbe painted before or after they go together due to seam smoothing(or lack thereof), I'm all ears.
  12. Born in 88? wow you are actually three years younger than my wife and 10 years younger than I am. LOL. Lookin good so far. I like the wheels in the last photo if it's more modern like that. The other wheels look like form the70's. At least from the styles around here where I am. Can't speak to anywhere else.
  13. Mount it on something, stick it in a hand drill locked in a vice and use a quickrite clamp to get just the right pressure on the trigger, grab the brush and have at it.
  14. So is my Dimaond Reo kit a red engine or a cummins beige? I'm confused even more now.
  15. Oh yeah for the trailer and the rrig. Plus gotta have the amber gumdrops too.
  16. So I did some research and there are plenty of 10 foot wide lowboys out there, which is what this scales out to. It's of nothing specific. I realize it doesn't look ike a front loader that much right now, but it will. The gooseneck is NOT detachable on the model, though it does represent a detachable one. If I ever decide to do it again in the future I'll make one that is operational. Just didn't want the hassle this time around. This is just going to haul my payhauler, which is going to end up actually chained down to the thing. I also picked up the Diamond Reo kit to drag it.
  17. The only real issue I might see is the side door, the rollup door, and the lift. I really want to build the lift. I suppose it's possible that CF had a rig like that. I know they used a few of these old Fords, of course old isn't entirely accurate since Ford made this bodystyle LONG after it was outdated. 1990 I think it was. Entirely possible they would still be in use today by CF if CF were still around. I gotta get it figured before I paint the chassis and suspension as CF was Red and the Pepsi truck would be black.
  18. So as some may know, my Jeep was totaled a bit over a month ago. Well after I got the $$ back from insurance and put a down payment on another truck(2001 Ford Expedition 4x4 this time), I of course had some $$ left over. Well since I haven't had a vacation in 4 years me and the wife went to the coast overnight. Well since today(the 12th) was my birthday and I did better at spending(or not spending) money at the coast, I stopped and bought myself a birthday present. This nice C-600 City Delivery Pepsi truck. Big question is, do I do it up in the Pepsi markings, or do I make my own decals(which I can do), and turn it into a Consolidated Freight rig. CF was started up here in Oregon where I live, and I've always liked the markings. Just to my knowledge aside from this nobody makes a rig that is readily turned into a CF rig, if you want to be accurate. The other thing is I can't find any CF C series trucks that have the lift on the back(I think the lift looks cool).
  19. I wonder if the regular wheels from the XLT version are available. I just bought a 2001 1:1 Expedition Friday. Wouldn't mind having a model of it.
  20. I believe Shawn Carpenter is the one I was thinking of. It sounds familiar.
  21. Ok, I knew it was one of them, that did. Problem I've had with the Krylon paint is that it seems to etch the plastic rather severely.
  22. So I know that certasinc ompanies paint their engines with X color, and then sometime the truck manufacturers will paint them up differently, and some give you the option, or let you go custom. I remember a list a couple of weeks ago on here but can't find it. Diamond Reo should be Gold, right?
  23. Aside from the slight green glow? LOL
  24. Picked up the stuff I need for the structure of it today as well as the trailer itself yesterday. Diamond Reo to haul it with. Stinks being broke, but me and the wife agreed I can use the gift cards at work for model building. I rocked it last time around with 75 bucks, and I have another 50 coming to me.
