Log Truck Question............
fantacmet replied to fantacmet's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Nice to know I'm the the only one who runs around with a DSLR. Sad part is all these photo's I have so far were taken with a phone. Older Galaxy S3.. Well except for the binders this looks about right. The chain I bought, the cable is wire that I twisted up myself. The "clamp" is just aluminum tube cut to length and superglued. KFS does still offer the binders, but I really don't want to pay shipping from England. -
Log Truck Question............

Well I'll assume the cable to chain is just a loop in the cable, with the metal crimp on it. It'd be tough to tell from a photo unless you zoomed in real good or were using a DSLR. -
Log Truck Question............
fantacmet replied to fantacmet's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Got any pics? I keep seeing chains wrapped around them, and the only cables I see are what hold the bunks up on the Peerless trailer. I'm basically doing this up as a rig that's maybe a few weeks old. As if a guy had been log trucking for awhile and saved up the money to do his own rig the way he wanted it. So using the International Transtar 4300 Eagle kit, minus Sleeper for it. No not Spec'd for logging but this gentleman didn't give two hoots, so he grabbed one because he wanted different. This fictitious gentleman that is. If I need to make cable, I have a ton of fine wire that I make cables with. Been making tank cables for years for my armor models. Same thing with Barbed Wire, though no use for that stuff on a truck. Examples, while this particular one is admittedly more modern, it looks like a chain to me. I can see what you mean though on this one. Of course I also found this too. And while I haven't posted the pic I did see one of someone doing the thing like you described but instead of a cable and chain it was just a chain. It's a shame because this chain I bought is REALLY nice. Though making my own cables works out well too. Just gotta scratch a binder, or make one of those handcrank winch ones. LOL -
There is a company making ALPS Cartridges now. Can't remember who. You can Also find ALPS printers under the Okidata name, but again discontinued, though parts are being made. However I'm interested to know what you found that prints the white? Liking those BUD wheels

Yeah still around. Might seem like he's not paying attention, but he does. I had no issues with my order. He sent it to the correct address after Paypal screwed up and sent him the wrong address and I emailed him. Wasn't aware the Spring detail was one sided, but that's ok, it will still work for me for this project.

Log Truck Question............
fantacmet posted a topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
So as some of you might have seen my logging truck is coming along. The load is going to be the real deal, I have PLENTY of perfect stuff to choose from. A friend owns a Christmas Tree Farm, and I can grab whatever I want, even cut some birch branches if I want. I already have the perfect sized chain and everything. The question lies in, where in the heck do I attach the chains to hold down the logs? I can't find that ANYWHERE. Took me forever to find pics of how to do the cables for the bunks. Which I had to make the cables myself, I couldn't find anything suitable. If I need to make some D rings or something that's fine, a little thread about a Ford Aeromax showed me how to do those(I plan to do that to a 4x4 I'm building). -
Who bought autocar? It amazes me sometimes. Brand name gets taken down, another entity purchases the name, and then never does anything with it. I understand sometimes when you purchase other things to go with it like vehicle designs or patents or what have you, but when you just pickup the name, and let it sit. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?

I vote BRAVERY. Then again it's not my plastic or $$. I learn alot from watching others alterations though.

Yeah looks like they are trying to copy Toyota. The reaper ain't too bad except for the forward leaning grill.

If you know how to compose a shot, and know how to work with the settings and whatever you have, than it's not the camera so much as the photographer, though since purchasing one I do have to admit a good DSLR makes a huge difference. Some people insist become a perfect photographer before buying a DSLR. I disagree. The DSLR brought out the fact that I was NOT a good photographer, and forced me to learn to become a decent one. Now my phone pics are no longer nice, they are great. I have photo prints for sale taken from my phone. -
The only thing I really know about them, is the Volvo heavy equipment, like backhoes, and the like, are built in South Korea. So small tidbit probably not of much use.

Since I do a bit of photography, perhaps maybe I should get into driving. LOL. Just carry the camera and tripod with me. -
Except that I think the ones in the links are front loaders, which from my understanding generally have a higher load rating. Could be wrong though, it's happened before. Yup yup, could definitely be wrong because I found this http://www.truckpaper.com/listingsdetail/detail.aspx?OHID=5438659 Fixed neck, tandem, 35T Which would be just shy of being able to carry the Payhauler. Since we don't know what model of trailer the AMT is based off of, it is entirely possible that AMT just got it wrong, and it should have been 50 ton instead of 50 thousand. It wouldn't be the first time something like that has happened.
-
The one I saw was transported with tires on, and it was "oversized" load. The kind that takes up 2 lanes and requires multiple spotter vehicles(of which I have one I could use already). I'll have to see if I can find the pics. I figured the AMT woudn't work. Always keep my eye out on craigslist and the places that sell the cheap toys, but all I ever find as far as scale is 48th and 32nd. Are there any front loader lowboy kits out there, or is everything scratchbuilt?
-
I refuse to shop ebay anymore. Sold a phone, they let the guy keep the phone, they gave him a full refund, and still are trying to charge me return shipping fee's and seller fee's. Nothing wrong with the phone the guy just didn't want it. So I'm out 320 bucks on that and nothing to show for it. So I don't do business with ebay anymore in any way shape or form. It doesn't look too hard to scratchbuild something convincing though. Simple leave setup, couple of ibeam sections and a 5th wheel(of which I have an extra because of the logging truck).
-
So I have some photo's that inspired me that I found online. It's an international payhauler, of which I have one of the kits. Truck would be easy to figure out. Question is what trailer? I have not seen any front loading lowboy trailers on the market in 25th scale. Only scratchbuilt and I don't think I'm at that point just yet in skill. Not without an old scale auto article that did the entire thing including blueprints. Does anyone make a kit of this? Or would the current issue of the AMT Lowboy trailer work? I would think the AMT kit would be too high despite the lowboy name, for something like a Payhauler, which is huge. It would look GREAT up on a shelf though. Big ol lowboy, with a stretched truck, and a Payhauler sitting on the back. It'd be friggin huge, but awesome looking. Now might be the time, as I'm likely getting some extra kickback from the insurance and the down payment on the new rig won't be as much as my insurance kickback so I might have enough to grab another rig/trailer combo.

Looks easy as pie to me, I was going to get on here and ask the same question tonight. Someone beat me to it. LOL
