My take on a 99 Silverado.
fantacmet replied to fantacmet's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Here's the orange color I chose. I LOVE this color. I'm debating to go black for the top, or go pickup a can of gunmetal, or metallic black. -
So here's my version so far. It's the OLD AMT Kit. Dodge GTS Blue for the lower half, and Black on the upper half. Haven't decided if I will do any light graphics or not. Doing some Pegasus wheels which are being modified by cutting them in half, painting the spokes black and putting the back part on the front to give them an offset for a RWD car rather then the FWD look they had.

The primer is Tamiya. Every time I do the drop spindle thing I get the wounded leg issue. Even using a pair of calipers to set it up. -
So this is one I've been wanting to do for awhile. I got lucky finding the kit. The old bash fishing version. I've been wanting to do this in an almost burn orange with a black top. I grabbed the Testors One Coat Fiery Orange for the bottom, and Customer Laquer black for the top. These are the wheels I'm using. The height I'm showing here is what I WANT it to be, but so far haven't beenable to figure how to get the front end that low. I've shaved the door handles, but I'mkeeping the emblems. BMF on top of the primer and then after the top coat I will be removing the top coat from the tops of the BMF to make the emblems stand out. I gotta dig up what I have the chassis around here and then post pics of it.

Not yet but I can't get some by the end of the day. I've barely gotten into it at all. I've shortened the rear spring hangers up, and I can get the rear end lower, but I'm not a bitg fan of the high front and low tail look. The front all I've done is to flip the kingpins. Aside from that I've only done body work.

Making Orange cones for your diorama...
fantacmet replied to Mike Whatshisname's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
You don't even have to ask the doc. This'd be great for a club group buy type of thing. http://www.amazon.com/Universal-KleenSpec-Disposable-Otoscope-Specula/dp/B000ODW7DG That's one example, but they are called otoscope specula. -
With the flares reminds me of something from Oz. Kinda like MadMax, before the whatever happened. I like it though(love the madmax movies too).

How did you mod those wheels? Did you just cut the back off and glue it to the front? INQUIRING MINDS WANT TO KNOW! LOL I did buy those same wheels, but I think I have different ones I'm going to use and then those on a different project.

It's funny that you post this. I'm doing AMT's 67. Also doing kind of an old/new theme with it. I'll maybe post some pics of mine tonight. I just got the kit yesterday from craigslist. The body is in paint right now, after some mild mods. Should be interesting to see how yours and mine stack up style wise.

CAST THIS PLEASE! I've never bought a resin kit but I'd probably pick this up. I remember when this came out, i had many an article on it. I'd grab this one, and a Nova Sterling if they were cast in Resin.
-
Nice build. How did you mount the wheels? I've never had success mounting Aoshima wheels to American kits before.

It was brought to my attention

I've seen Whiskey Ridge mentioned alot popularly in another magazine devoted to Scale Model Cars that shall go nameless, that I've had numerous issues with the editor so I don't go there anymore. Though sometimes I will create a new account, post up, and then "let it slip" who I am and then he bans me again. Totally flies off the handle it's funny. Anyhow seems like WR is just about right for that market on there. I have a question however. Is this Fairmont body only? Is the body itself stock? I would love to make a basically Stock Fairmont, and oen as a street rod. Mustang Chassis from Fox Body would be the same underneath so it'd be easy as pie. If it's body only, the interior might be tough though. -
Got to drive a Z06 vette this weekend!
fantacmet replied to MsDano85gt's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I hate you, that you got to drive one. Vette is my #1 car and a pipe dream. I have driven Vettes before, I've driven ALOT of exotics come to think of it, and it all comes back to the Vette. I might of had to pull a Ferris Buellers Day off with a Ferarri kind of thing with it in your shoes. LOL. The stick thing? I can drive them just fine. Generally I don't care what kind of transmission is in my vehicle, I just get the vehicle and that's that. If it's auto, great, if it's stick, great. Though some vehicles I have a preference in. My Grand Cherokee? Auto. Pretty much any SUV? Auto. Small car? Stick. Van? Auto. Pickup? Don't care. Other Jeeps? Stick. Racecar? Don't care, though if it's an auto I'll probablymanually shift it. The newer the vehicles get however, the more I want the small stuff to have a stick and the more I want the trucks and such to have auto's. Sports car? Stick, with the exception of a Vette, which I don't care what it's got, give me one and I'll keep it forever and be happy about it. Generally though I just don't give a hoot what style of transmission is in my vehicle. I once had a 68 F100, technically had a 4 speed. Practical usage, it had a 2 speed. 1st was a granny gear, 4th was an overdrive. 2nd and 3rd were normal gears. Like most trucks 1st and 4th. The shifter locations were EXTREMELY vague as well. 3rd was somewhere over yonder, 4th was somewhere back in that general direction passenger rear corner of the truck. Reverse? Yeah buddy that was WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY out about 160 miles in the general direction of north east. However it could be directly north or directly east depending on the mood of the car gods. The clutch was pretty much the same way, and the steering? Oh yeah, with 1/2 revolution of the steering wheel being a dead zone, and the tires being TUBED bias ply, it was definately an adventure to drive. Especially on the freeway, or zipping down side streets, with that 390 and the 15 inch blue streak racing muffler circa 1973 underneath it. Women and children ran and hid. Big tough guys grunted until they saw it, then they ran and hid. Not from fear, but out of disgust so nobody would ahve to see them puking. It was a horridly ugly rig. Old farm truck. Ok enough rant, have fun y'all. -
So I know there are physical scale calculators you can buy out there, but that's spendy, and you're stuck with something that can't be upgraded as needed. So I enter................ ScaleSoft Scale Calculator for Aircraft, Armor, Auto's, Ships, Trains, and then even a cross genre scale converter(this last one is functional but might not be 100% accurate). The best part? It's FREE! At least for now, but I don't really think I'll ever end up charging for the computer version. Also in the future I plan to have a cheap Android version. It should install fine on any windows based machine. Sorry Apple people, too many internal Apple politics, and gigantic amounts of cash required by Apple to do anything with them. Which is a shame really, you guys shouldn't be left out, though if someone else has Apple programming experience and the equipment, we may be able to work something out. Even if it's just the pseudocode I used, along with the layout and imaging and graphics(if any) in order to make a more cohesive bit of software. Anyway, you can download the installer from my dropbox account: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/hjwi5qq5nl7woz3/xgelncOPkI

This looks promising I've wanted to do something like this but with Yenko cars. I'll be watching this one.

1970 Mach 1 twister special * April 15 rolling right along
fantacmet replied to freakshow12's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Lookin good so far. Thank you for hinging the doors correctly. So many people swing them straight out instead of the leading edge dipping into the body, which makes them look goofy and more diecast/toy like. Yours is done right and will be tougher to tell the difference from the real deal. Watching this one with earnest. -
There was a project I had started and never got to finish. It's amazing how much of this kit has shared parts with the 65 Chevelle kit. I was using all the hotrod parts from the maxrat on the 65, and then using the other parts to make a later model high school kids Malibu.
-
I didn't even know they made these as kits. I wish they'd reissue them. Id' buy a few. Still need to pickup some Gremlins and Pacers.

Sad day, Egon is gone.

Yeah I lost ALOT of stuff in that truck. This was my first figure model. Whole truck was stolen, got it back minus half the interior. Minus this model and a couple of others. Minus the controller for my Traxxas Summit, Minus my HPI Savage XS Flux with upgrades, and minus my custom fabricated VERY expensive Scale RC Crawler, which I had only for about a week and a half. Minus my stereo system as well which consisted of a 1000 Watt Kenwood bridgeable monoblock, capable of 1 ohm loads, and my JL Audio W3V2 sub inside the sub zero serpentine wide rectangular port box. The really sad part about it, it was an old man who took the rig, in his 80's, AND he was a Veteran of WWI, Korea, and Vietnam.
