  1. >Glad to see you are finishing this thanks! but lets not go putting any (ala) karts before the horse!
  2. time for an update, heres a chronology of sorts: a couple of notes: sometimes it helps to read the instrux BEFORE assembling something, even when you are sure you know exactly what you are doing. witness, wheels are assembled inside out and the knockoffs are glued to the inside of the wheel. duh. the last photo shows them corrected and the way they are supposed to be but the first few photos show them the way i knew they were supposed to go! in the last photo, the rear wheels/tires are just stuck on the axle right now, awaiting epoxy, probably later this evening. its looking good but its particularly delicate, especially that front end and steering linkage.. next on to the body...
  3. those look great, i wish they had more selection in 1/24!
  4. thanks greg, and if i get the wheels and tires mounted by tuesday i might bring it along.
  5. and on the new years eve, got some progress to report here as well: a nearly completed chassis. brass rod is just for alignment; i have a polished aluminum axle to replace it. really stabilizes the suspension. its pretty fragile and fiddly to put together and align properly. it did fit together surprisingly well. no heroics here just some patience and superglue. looks good though. will look better with the motor in tomorrow after the epoxy dries on the rear hubs. then its wheels and tires to make a rolling chassis while i fiddle with the body seams and hopefully my first airbrush paint job! will practice on the interior tub first! happy new year everyone!
  6. getting so close now, you can see the improvements, rear bumper in place, just need to fasten the windshield (tricky part!) and build a water hose. heres some "how not to do it" photos from the workbench! hopefully get this post in under the new years boundry here in california then its a whole new year! happy new year everyone!
  7. surfite has three i believe...
  8. i just noticed that too! i have pretty much all of those mags but there are a couple of issues i am missing. i just dont really dig not having a real paper magazine but its better than nothing!
  9. reps and mins of maryland with knock offs: i think they are what you are after. edit: but maybe the slots are too wide? they look great though
  10. thanks, i remember that now from when i was a kid. pretty much think the same now as then about that over and under headlamp front end: ditch it!
  11. at this point i would be soaking the body in paint remover if you really dont want the yellow/bone tint because its gonna need to go back to bare plastic pretty much... thats a problem i have had with white: just about any (buzz can) clear i have tried has a pretty pronounced yellow tint to it, at least enough to turn the shade from pure white to something else. you might want to try not using a clear on this but i assume you have a line between the two colors you want to bury. if there is a gloss clear that doesnt have a yellow tint i would like to hear about it...
  12. like you mention they are more or less "on sale" right now what with no tax (if you live out of state) and free shipping. i was just looking at them today and i think tomorrow morning i am calling up to order the smallest of the "peacemaker" series mostly to get the benefit of the two built in 75 watt light bulbs. they are about 80$ more than the next one down but are a bit bigger too...not as big as the biggest though. then i will have to go visit home depot and get some foam board and vent tube to run out the window. then i need to watch Dr Crankys vids to figure out more than just how to pull the trigger on the brush.
  13. really though, nice issue. i liked the article on the ferrari build, the resin stuff and i always enjoy that diecast roundup at the end. i just subscribed after 10 or more years of buying at the LHS (RIP) and my two issues so far have been in decent shape considering the PO' s general handling. good work as usual!
  14. did your proofreader quit? just wondering...
  15. not sure about the exact specs but i think reps and mins of maryland has what you want
  16. could we see a pic of the box please? and i like those decals, especially the panels.
  17. >what might be a nice touch is for R-M to make sets of the stock tires available for purchase or, considering the recent parts pack release...maybe AMT might want to make them available! wouldnt that be something!
  18. piece of junk. i am glad in a way, one more kit i dont have to worry about
  19. i may have posted these before (ahem) but you dont need no stinkin vair motor: had something roughly similar in my Thing:
  20. looks killer down low like that. this should be nice...i always liked those 928s in 1:1 though they had a hard time giving them away back in the day...still very underrated.
  21. pretty much the most fantastic ala kart i have ever seen! wow! really love the engine and compartment, super clean.
  22. heres some wheels, probably want some more aggressive tires:
  23. yes i agree with both of you...the wiper is too long and its just a model! that said thanks for pointing it out, hadnt really noticed it before and i will probably trim it back a bit...sure wish i had noticed that before i glued in the windshield! by the way that ink smear looking mess on the left side of the windscreen is more a lens effect than in real life. anyway heres how the grille shell and tank look on the front. i was just posing it here, will glue it down tomorrow and then make some supports for the bottom to anchor to the axle. i also think i should make a brass rod "V" radiator support back to the firewall. at this rate it will never get done! thanks again everyone for looking...i promise to move on to the surfite and karmann ghia soon, yeah, real soon...
  24. ok one more update and time for bed...and this one isnt all that exciting to tell the truth but it does illustrate what you can come up with in a pinch... didnt know what i was going to do with the windshield...for sure it was way too high and ugly to use: here it is fitted together...note the cool wiper motor molded to the upper part of the clear glass: hey...i wonder if i could move the windshield up in the frame and use the bottom body-contoured part up in the top part where the windshield wiper is molded in? wow! looks pretty good with the wiper motor and rear view mirror in place! alright folks off to bed now...
  25. another progress report and the end is near! added some radius rods and other steering equipment to the front end: look pretty kool peeking out from under there: i think the moon tank has won out...bent the top supports together a bit to make them fit in the radiator shell and will build some bottom braces...this arrangement tucks it in closer to the shell and not so sticking out looking: one more shot and on to the windshield...i have had the grille shell glued on twice now and neither time took...i hope its not trying to tell me something (besides i need to mount the tank!). in this shot you can also see the fender brace bar i have fabricated to replace the headlamps...if you are in california the VC says (or said anyway...) that you had to have headlamps...it didnt say you had to have them MOUNTED on the car, except at night. a fact frequently taken advantage of by dry lakes racers etc down at the drive in.
