  1. why do all these "comets" look like mavericks to me? im no expert on american cars but ive been wondering that ever since some other guy posted photos of a "comet" with just a side view. i thought i was imagining things but this one makes it obvious...thats a comet? one love jah bill
  2. i used to have great success with castrol super clean but i think they must have changed the formula, at least here in california. it wasnt available for awhile and then reappeared in a different container. i bought two jugs of it and its just not the same. it doesnt appear to budge krylon nor tamiya paints. however it does still seem to work well with testors model master and ive dunked some old dinky toys ive restored in it and it still removed like literally quarter inch thick paint jobs. problem is, i havent found anything that works like the old stuff did. i think i still have a jug or two of the original in my garage, maybe i should use that and keep the new stuff for cleaning real car parts or something. or maybe im just imagining the formula change. anyone else notice this?
  3. aw you dont need instrux for that model! hell there have to be only, what, 100+ pieces to the quad cam motor and another 20 to the transaxle assembly? yeah i have instrux spare that i can send or copy for you. send me an email on justw@dgweb.com with your address. i may send you the instrux from the testors repack of this car which is the same as the fujimi original i believe. ps have fun building it. i built up the motor on stand with dual ignition system etc and its a killer.
  4. yes i agree. i find model cars magazine far outstrips the competition and it gets fatter while they get skinnier! and i always find there is much more to interest me than in the competitors mag (are we allowed to name it?). anyway keep up the good work and interesting articles. i esp appreciate the "furrin" car coverage and tuner stuff too, as well as what seems like a recent run of vintage style buildups. jarius' sketchpad is killer too; love them babes he throws in there.
  5. is that the duplicolor "flip flop" paint (they call it something but i cannot recall what)? man it looks a mile deep there. did you apply it as per instructions? ive attempted it before but the only way i could get it to look decent (i dont have an airbrush so im stuck with the cans) was to do as instructed but then polish down the clear coat and then put some model master clear over that and polish it again. didnt come out looking half as nice as that one of yours though.
  6. errr...i know im pushing it here but is that free offer open to anyone? please let me know here or on justw@dgweb.com many thanks!
  7. mark ive seen your caterhams at NNL west a few times and i am always in total awe of them! i have a 58 lotus seven in real life and i have to say your cats look more realistic than my 1:1 example! just wanted to get a word in on how fantastic these things look in real life...like you want to shrink down to 1:12 and drive it away!
  8. hey thanks again! to tell the truth, it looks better in pictures than in real life. the radiator came with a white metal kit from (i think...but not positive about this) southeast finecast of a morgan/rover V8. the header (which you cannot see in these pics) also came from the same kit. brit car followers will know that was formerly a buick aluminum V8 before rover bought up the tooling etc. i believe it was also used in the ltd edition MGBGT V8. anyway got distracted by a quick custom build of a green hornet t this weekend for my girlfriend; will get back to this one soon. again, thanks for the compliments!
  9. hey thanks for the compliments folks; coming from your calibre of builders it really means a lot. inspires me to keep on keeping on as it were. i will post more photos as i take them, maybe over the weekend. again very nice forum and im glad i found it and took the time to register!
  10. hi im new here and i thought i would share some slot cars ive built and/or restored the past couple years! all these are 1/32 scale and im basically a static builder so i tend to do a pretty detailed job of it. in the case of slots though, its build them to look good, then photograph them. *then* put them on the track and after that they are race cars! anyway, feedback always appreciated: first here is a lister resin (fiberglass actually) body i tarted up and mounted on a vintage cox mag chassis. those funky side pipes have since been replaced, though it still needs a windscreen: heres a bottom shot showing chassis and upgraded motor: heres a nissan skyline i adapted to a ninco chassis: heres a cool mgtd roadster that i raced out and mounted on a monogram formula one chassis: and a bottom shot showing chassis with body off: finally heres a lotus elite (lotus 14) clear plastic body on scratchbuild frame: and a shot with body off: hope this didnt take up too much space. ive found i really enjoy the quick build of a slot car and yet being able to detail it enough to have an effect!
  11. hi folks im new here. let me show you something im working on...sorry for the underwhelming quality of the photos... body is art anderson (i understand he posts here) t bucket with turtledeck, track nose all moulded as one. chassis essentially scratchbuilt, with metal axle front end and etzel speed classics offy motor. is currently beyond this stage; actual radiator is in and brake lines etc plumbed. heres a couple other photos: similar view but from rear: detail of front end with radiator and fuel tank in place : ive been working on this on and off for a couple years; now ive got it back out and hopefully will be ready for nnl west 07! the body will have to be trimmed and finished and im planning on shrouding all slots for exhaust system etc for the lake car look. im ready to actually mount the motor and the chassis is already up on its rear wheels so i will post some more photos as things progress. i often get sidetracked building or restoring slot cars so i put a couple photos over there too. cool forum, im glad i made it here!
