  1. well wrapping this one up right about now...a couple of issues i am going to let go for now and call it "under glass". i plan that within a year i will revisit the build for a couple of necessary enhancements: build another front end and this time narrow it a scale 6" out of the center, replace its main tubes with shortened aluminum tubing ought to look good. this will let the wheels fit more naturally in the wheel wells and let me keep a much more detailed looking front end instead of what i ended up with here...for the purpose of making all four wheels touch ground i mounted the front left wheel last and it ended up a good 1/16" or more rearward than the right side one! actually centered better in the wheel well but i still dont really dig it. so reworking the front end is the first priority. but the real problem is the rear deck lid doesnt fit: it sits high because it is hitting the air boxes and coil arrangement unfortunately. but it looks like it is very well centered with the moulded in grille on the deck lid so i can probably trim that out and get the clearance i need. then it would be a matter of deciding it looks better with the air cleaners sticking up through the hood or whether i should attempt some kind of scoop or bump or something back there...i am partial to letting the stuff hang out or at most making a rearward facing scoop sort of air intake. but for now, check it out in "under glass" section in a day or so, as soon as i take some nicer photos. thanks again for following along and all comments always welcome!
  2. wow serious stuff! thanks to whoever brought this back to the top, super kool stuff!
  3. i remember seeing that henry j and just being amazed. very detailed as i remember. that some heroic work!
  4. that is super clean, and the stance looks just perfect!
  5. i was going to suggest overshooting that maroon base coat with some tamiya clear red. looks good as it is though.
  6. >Is that a true loutus eng or a converted? not sure what you mean but it is a white metal copy of the (i presume) gunze motor that came with the high tech with motor lotus elan. stuff polishes up very nicely. i think it was made by southeast finecast in england but not positive. even if it wasnt and you dont know that company, google it and see what you find. about your earlier question on the other side graphics (done, by the way, not by me but my friend Jerry Amaral), the image is skewed in photoshop to avoid offending some sensibilities. if you get my drift. jerry did a very nice job on the graphics, i designed them but he executed them. this van was more or less modeled after one i saw in london one day, didnt have my camera so i just had a quick impression in my head to go from. the thames itself is nowhere near "stock" but much more than the kit it was sourced from, the simple simon pie truck of course.
  7. do you have a citation for that claim against california? probably not...because i doubt it was strictly a california thing, though im sure they/we were out in the front of the pack. distribution is kinda spotty on it on the west coast; there are those claiming it to be plentiful, but ive been to two shops in the past month with practically none of it available. both did have the primer that was missing for so long, but one especially had zilch, almost literally. and they said they were trying to get hold of some. i need to establish a cheap and reliable internet source for the TS series and the military stuff too. any suggestions?
  8. how much is the lettering raised on a real tire? eighth of an inch? divide that by 25, umm lessee, carry the 4...hmmm seems like decal thickness is pretty near accurate! but youre right, your eye wants to see "raised". problem is, that "raised" scaled out would have the lettering hovering 2" off the tire! i hope they release these in a parts pack too. then some UK street dunlops like SATCO was making!
  9. >2) Roy Sorenson, publisher/editor of Model Car Builder model car magazine what magazine? dont believe i have ever seen it.
  10. >that emblem on the driver's side correction...that would be the passengers side but you were right about one thing, it dont have the flathead 4 in it...but it doesnt have a ridiculous looking big ole supercharged hemi either: thanks for the comments and glad you liked it shane!
  11. you rang? well its close but not exactly an anglia...
  12. oh that is so excellent! that engine intake system is fantastic! do you machine your own chassis or is that off the shelf?
  13. that triumph is available in resin from norm by the way...so if you really need the front wheels thats one possibility.
  14. well getting up on wheels is giving me a little more grief than i had anticipated, but some progress has been made. heres a couple shots with the rears epoxied on, and the front posed. front track is a bit wider than i had wanted but i knew that was coming. i still got a trick up my sleeve to narrow it just a bit more. i really think wheel stance and placement is crucial to the look of the model. thats why i get particularly obsessive about this stage of doing things. i think this will look realistic...i purposely put some slant on the rear wheels but i didnt put too much which makes sense with that big honkin sway bar/stabilizer from the 356 under there. anyhow hope to be wrapping this one up soon so stay tuned for some final shots!
  15. wow are you kidding me? that motor looks fantastic in there. incredibly tight though but just looking at it it is very impressive! ok so if your wife has a monster miata...what the heck do you drive?
  16. yeah it really is gonna end up looking nice, and very unique too... i thought maybe the motor was made by fujimmy, man its superdetailed and i bet every boss and bump is exactly where its supposed to be. i am not surprised to hear he is something like a jet aircraft technician, just seems right. and then if he is over in japan he is seeing the JDM cars all over the place! alright man looking kool for sure.
  17. i always dug that XR6 thing, totally funky styling with those squared off fenders and the asymetrical styling of the body and all. i have a couple of these kits on my shelf too. never thought much about the tub but nowadays its looking pretty kool too, or at least potentially kool.
  18. if i was the seller i would just refund your money right away. but then again, if i was the seller i would have packed it adequately to begin with. i take it you didnt buy their insurance? thats alright though because that insurance never really seems to work out anyhow. i dont really think this happens with USPS too much. UPS? almost every time. i feel your pain man. > It takes like 20 seconds to write "Fragile" on the box a couple times i dont mean to offend you but thats the funniest thing ive read all day!
  19. thats totally kool, its too bad the motor isnt filling in the compartment more. are you going to run a hood on it? maybe a built up V6 might be better? anyway this is a great project, something i want to do too!
  20. thats looking great. i was just thinking the other week that i wish AMT would reissue some of those coupla can-am cars they did in the mid 60s(?). i cant swear there was a mclaren but i thought there was, and of course that turbine powered hornet thing, but didnt they also release a couple of others a hussien or something? but reissue some kits like THAT now that they have the Gremlin out of their system! big duh but great looking start on this car! kool looking injector stacks!
  21. man that is looking great. very nice motor detailing and just the right look. nice stance too but when i saw that first photo of the front end, down on the ground, i thought "oh its got hydraulics". those wheels look great too, and i am over 50!
  22. with all due respect, and yes i have read all about it in other threads, you really need to put the mag in a plastic bag. even if it costs more. i get the toyota land cruisers assn club magazine and have never had a copy torn or mutilated in ten years, its packaged in a thin plastic bag. with Model Cars, the cover and several pages are torn on 2 out of 3 issues so far with this latest one being one of them. i know about the post office and i know about the machines the mail is subjected to. loose pages are just asking for it. and it is definately not the mail service around here...everyone knows everyone and treat each other with respects. my packages get hand delivered and me and the mail lady are on cookies-at-christmas level. so they are getting torn up enroute through whatever mail centers they pass on their way out here to the boonies. please look into this. i know i am not the only person who feels this way. i would think a 50 cent per issue price increase would be a fair trade, or to not penalize people who buy off the newstand, a 50 cent charge per issue to subscribers to have the issues bagged at the printing plant. believe me it DOES make a difference, in my case a major difference. the magazine looks nice and it is printed on nice stock. its a shame to see the cover torn in my mailbox when it arrives. thanks and keep up the good work, each magazine really has its high points. by the way TR3s were often seen in the UK wearing "spats" aka "fender skirts".
  23. >I don't suppose there's any chance of getting the broadspeed and traveller bodies copied in resin before you use them sent you a pm regarding this...
