Shout out to any Kansas City area modelers. Hoping to get a local community together, or find one already active that I can hook up with. Thanks! Mike

Hey all. I'm new to the group and have been loving seeing everyone's creativity. I had no idea there were people making their own parts out of plastic sheets of styrene. Amazing! I've been in the graphic design industry for many years, so when I heard "styrene" I immediately thought of my local digital large format print vendor I've used in the past. They print a lot of signs on styrene sheets. I drove over there at lunch today and poked around their dumpster (yes, I'm a dumpster diver) and found several sheets of styrene that were printing mistakes aka throw-aways. If you want styrene and don't want to spend any money on it (like me), track down a local digital printer who prints on the stuff. Their dumpster will likely be a treasure trove. Or they might be willing to give you their scrap. I've you're desperate, let me know. No promises here, but I might be able to hook you up. Happy creating! Mike

Thanks all! I just found this forum. Honestly, I thought I was the only geek out there still playing with you cars! Glad I found a support group of like-inflicted modelers! Looking forward to learning some great tips! *toy. Not *you... Stupid auto correct

Thanks all! I started doing weathered cars when I realized I didn't have the skills to turn out a good shiny paint job. From there I just kinda developed a liking for rust buckets and barn finds. Most if the time I start with a coat of red oxide primer, some overspray of brown textured rust oleum then start painting with acrylics. The windshield was done with a drill, xacto knife and sand paper. And yea, let's restore it!!

Hey Tubbs - thanks! I'm really enjoying checking out everyone's creations here. Fun stuff! I have a little corner workshop in the basement at home (furnace room). I'm a graphic designer by trade, so I created and printed scale backdrops in Photoshop and lined the walls/shelves. I used that oil dry stuff you sprinkle on oil spills as gravel. I didn't build the gas pumps. Those are already built and painted. They really add to the look of the place though!

Hi All. Brand new to this group and very much looking forward to interacting with you. I started building model cars when I was a kid, when my dad gave me his old collection of stuff he built. Got back into the hobby a few years ago and have a nice little spot in the basement furnace room to enjoy my hobby. Mainly build 1/24 scale, in the rat rod/barn find style. Being a graphic designer by trade, I also like creating custom backdrops and dioramas for good photo opps. Being a midwest guy, this is mainly a winter hobby. When the weather's nice, I'm outside!
