Nice Tommy!! You're right. It would look great with an up top! Steve

Sweet! I haven't built one of these old Fords in many years! But I did pick one up some months back. I've always wanted to build one in either "Inca Gold" & "Silver Mocha" or "Coral Sand" & "Silver Mocha". Nice work Bo! Steve

Thanks to you Al! You definitely deserve a large portion of the credit. Without your generous trade, I quite possibly might have never built a 300 convertible. Thanks again! Steve

That's exactly what I said as I was leaving! Just what I need! More stuff to pack! But it's good stuff. Unlike most of the junk in my attic, basement & garage! Steve

57 Bel Air Kits
StevenGuthmiller replied to WizPorsche944's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The only "sedan" that I can think of is the Revell 2 door sedan kit. I believe that everything else are hardtops or convertibles. I haven't built the Revell sedan, but judging from most of the kits that Revell has produced in recent years, it should be a good one. As far as hard tops go, the old AMT kit was a good kit. The newer tool AMT kit with the opening trunk is a fairly good kit as well, but it's a little more "finicky". I had some parts fit issues when I built mine. Especially with the engine & transmission mounts. But it finishes pretty nicely. I have not built one of the Revell kits yet, but the convertible that I got recently looks like a great kit. This is my AMT build. Steve -
Sometimes the work pays off! Just returned from the NNL North show in Bloomington MN. I wasn't even planning on going this year with the stress from the move & all, but I'm glad I did. I made out like a bandit! I had 6 kits entered in the show this year. A '59 Bonneville & a '60 Dodge Dart in the "Fins" category, which was this years theme. I also entered a '61 Starliner in the street rod category, a '63 Ford in the truck category & a '69 Coronet in the muscle car category. The only "Factory Stock" entry I had this year was my '62 300 H convertible. I won the trophy for the fins category from the gentlemen from the "Model Car Club of Minnesota" for the '60 Dodge, & a trophy for "Best Road Car" from the guys from the "Winnipeg Model Cal Club" for my '62 Chrysler! I also picked up a plaque for one of the "Top Ten" in the show from the participants, also for the '62 300. My head is still reeling a bit! I never really expected to win any awards this year. It was very unanticipated! I just want to send my heart felt thanks to all of the guys from the MCCM & the WMCC for their kindness, especially Scott & Rod who have both sort of taken me under their wing & made me feel really comfortable. I also have to thank all of the participants for the top ten vote as well. There were a lot of really great builds there & I am humbled to receive their votes. And last, I have to thank my beautiful wife for suggesting that I take the time to go this year & accompanying me to boot. She is my biggest reason for living! Steve

Looking great Ron. Just as a little side note & a tiny bit of braggadocio, I just returned from the NNL North show in Bloomington MN this afternoon. I was quite surprised when the gentleman from the Winnipeg Model Car Club saw fit to award me with their "Best Road Car" award & the participants voted for my 300 H as one of the top ten models at the show! Thanks guys! I am truly honored! Keep up the good work Ron! This can be a really nice kit with a little love, & it looks like you're headed in the right direction. Steve

C'mon USPS!
StevenGuthmiller replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I agree with Bill. In general, I have very few complaints with the USPS. Overall, they do a pretty good job. I just thought that it was a little odd that my package would basically take a tour of the entire Northeastern quarter of the country to travel 300 miles. I realize that it was most likely just some sort of mistake & I'm in no hurry to receive the package, so all in all, no harm, no foul. On my last check I noticed that my package has arrived in Rochester & will most likely be in my mail box tomorrow afternoon. Steve -
C'mon USPS!
StevenGuthmiller replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This has to have been the case. The trip from Milwaukee to Rochester MN was well under 600 miles. Steve -
Someone explain this one to me. I won some parts on ebay that were to come to Rochester Minnesota from Trevor Wisconsin. Trevor is about 45 miles south of Milwaukee, which is about 275 miles from Rochester MN. Combined, that's about 320 miles. My parts are now in Warrendale Pennsylvania, 790 miles in the complete opposite direction! Figure that one out! Something makes me think that my parts are on their way to Rochester New York! Steve

Bare Metal Foil Questions
StevenGuthmiller replied to Monty's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Also remember that the gold & black foils are not that color all the way through. They are still aluminum foil with a colored surface so they are prone to having the color coating rub off. Especially if they come in contact with any abrasive or solvents. So polishing with an abrasive polish or pad will remove the color. Using the "foil under paint" technique will not work with these foils because polishing or thinner will turn it into regular BMF. I use gold foil on occasion but I apply it at the end of the build & try not to mess with it too much after. I used gold foil on the "Fury" scripts on my '60 Fury & the "Lancer" badges on the front fenders of my '59 Dodge. Steve -
How to modify/create seat inserts?
StevenGuthmiller replied to Hawk312's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I've not tried it, but I've heard of guys making a mold from a pleated surface such as the tonneau cover from the AMT '59 El Camino kit & then filling the mold with acrylic craft paint in the color you choose. Supposedly, once the paint is dry it gives you a fairly flexible sheet of pleated material that can be cut to the size & shape that you need & glued into place. Steve -
It's pretty obvious to me that you have a "thing" for '48 Fords Tulio! Nice group. Steve

Started shoveling out my hobby room for the move today. These are most of the unbuilt kits. Steve

Are you planning on using the up top Ron? That's where I spent the majority of body work time on mine. The top doesn't fit well, as with most of these old Johan kits, so not only did it require some body mods around the tulip panel area & the addition of boot snap detail, but the top benefited from some shortening & opening up of the sail panels to make it look closer to correct. I also added the wide chrome band at the leading edge of the top. It was a lot of piddling around but it was worth the effort in the end. This was one of those kits that was never really heavily on my radar, but when Al Rich, (thatz4u) offered one up for trade, I jumped on it. Once I had it in my hands I was over taken by the urge to build it & it jumped right to the front of the line! Now it's one of my prizes. Steve

Building a 69 roadrnnner
StevenGuthmiller replied to WoodyRDC's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The grilles on the '68 & '69 Roadrunners were totally different, so transplanting the '68 grille into a '69 will not give you a '69 Roadrunner. Steve -

StevenGuthmiller replied to Geno's topic in WIP: Model Cars
We're going to get to know each other rather well George. I've been building, almost exclusively, vintage kits for the past few years & the parts almost always could benefit from fresh chrome. I generally send out parts for at least 6 or 8 builds at a time & I still have a ton of parts that need it. Unfortunately, everything is on hold now as we get ready to move, but I hope to get back into the groove later this summer. I'll be contacting you soon. I do have one question. Being as I know the prices & now have your address, I can just send out the parts, a parts list and a check when I'm ready to go, correct? That's how I had done it before. No other correspondence was necessary. Steve
