  1. I applied some decals from a well known and high quality supplier a few years ago to some tires. The decals are still sticky and very glossy. I sanded the tires lightly prior to applying the decals, but I’m wondering now if the tires should have been coated with some clear acrylic before I put the decals on. At this point I’m looking for opinions on what I can do to remedy the situation and halt this continuous reaction so the tires will look matte and not be sticky. Should I coat them now with a matte clear acrylic paint to seal them?

  2. What an incredible model Cliff. I’ll bet assembling it was a lot of fun! I had no idea IXO made models like this. One of my high school teachers drove one of these Volvos. I don’t remember too much about it except that it was red and that he had just finished installing a set of Koni shocks on it.

  3. A quick question for you Ryan. Id like to give the surgical scalpels a try. Did you purchase just the #11 blades, or did you need to buy a corresponding handle too? I was wondering if the scalpel blades fit in a regular X-acto handle.

    Thanks-

  4. You’ve done a most enviable job on this Starliner! Truly gorgeous. Your attention to detail is really remarkable and subtle touches like lowering the front end really add to the amazingly realistic look that it has. Thanks for sharing your tips on your bmf application and photo techniques.

  5. I’m amazed how you did so much engineering on this model and had it turn out so beautifully. Very impressive. Your work on the interior and engine are superb as well. When I clicked on the title of your post, I wasn’t expecting this! Such a cool model.

  6. My original intention for this model was to just build it 'out of box'. As it progressed I decided to use the build experience as a chance to try a few new things that I could perhaps use in the future. For example, I stripped the kit chrome , except for the wheels, and tried Alclad 2 chrome for the first time. I scratch built the gauge in the interior, and for the paint I used white primer with Tamiya clear pearl on top.

These early Revell kits have often been described as 'fiddly' or difficult to build. I'm inclined to agree. It's been a long time since I've built a Revell kit from this era, so I'd forgotten how much fun they could be! The decals in particular really gave me a 'run for my money'! Still, I'm happy with the results and will enjoy having it on my shelf.

  7. I remember your review in SA well. You did a really nice job on this. It looks like you were able to fix that high spot on the roof too, the only flaw I can see on this kit.

  8. I love rat rods, as long as they have the right ‘look’, the right stance, and the right proportions. So many rat rods don’t have these things going for them, at least in my humble opinion.  Yours definitely has all these things. Great patina too. Driving this car would be quite an experience, peering out of those ‘mail slot’ windows and those open headers barking just outside your door!

  9. I applied Molotow from a brand NEW marker to some parts four or five years ago and they still look about as good as the day they were done. That is to say, they look as good as Molotow gets. Not quite as good as kit chrome in general, but quite acceptable in my opinion. I tried the same thing with a marker I’d had for a couple of years and while it looked ok at first, the shine degraded to a bright silver over a couple of weeks. I didn’t handle the parts in either case. I think shaking the pen vigorously first is crucial.
