  1. Body got the big squirt today. It's the basecoat and will get either a candy gold or orange over it, which ever one I think matches my reference photos better. The color is closer to school bus yellow than it looks in the photo. Had a mess painting the underside matt black, the Tamiya paint was giving me fits and after two tries I switched to Testors and had no issues. I probably didnt soak the body long enough, but the Tamiya topcoat went on well.
  2. Thanks Donn, I'm kinda new to resin. I've built 3 cars so far using resin bodies and have had 3 different adventures with them. Thought I had it figured out this time, but apparently not, lol. I resanded, recleaned and reprimed....again....but this time used Testors lacquer over the Tamiya primer and no issues. Must be some difference in the paint......but next time it'll spend more time in the bleach.... Thanks for your help.
  3. Soaked, scrubbed and sanded the underside of a resin funny car body. Painted it with Tamiya semi-gloss black. All was fine except where I had agressively removed material to thin it for a more scale appearance and thickness. In those areas the paint remained tacky even after several hours....(sigh) Sooooo, I sanded it all down until the paint was gone, then re-scrubbed everything, then applied two medium coats of Tamiya fine surface primer. Waited an hour or so.....great! No stickiness... Then applied 3 light coats of Tamiya semi-gloss black and.....it's WORSE. I'm assuming that in the areas where I removed a lot of material, its weeping resin residue or something... Anyone seen this before and more importantly, how the heck do I get it to stop????? The shiny spot arount the blower opening is still VERY tacky after several hours....HELP!
  4. Had some time this morning so I turned a few bits....
  5. Got a little more done. Rear axle is in, and started on tinwork. Got the box around the blower roughed in. ..and cut out clearance around the headers...
  6. I'm thinking "Mighty Mouse" needs an orange, small block chevy for power!
  7. You nailed it! Fantastic build.
  8. It's your build, so it's your prefence that counts! It'll look good in any color!
  9. If your unsure of a color, there's always black!
  10. Got the front suspension in place, now I can mock up the body to check stance, fit and clearances. I'm pleasantly surprised! Looks like it sits "right" and I guessed right when I raised the blower about an 1/8". Next up, rear axle gets mounted.
  11. I'm in! Love those vintage fuel coupes. Good luck with the build!
  12. Well, you've succeeded in helping me already! I never thought to wash the panel lines prior to painting, what an excellent and simple idea. It makes sense and I'm sure it'll make a difference in my paint jobs. Thanks! I'll keep an eye on your tips!
  13. Hi folks, new to the forum, haven't tried posting a WIP before but here goes.....Started working on a project I've wanted to build for a while, a car I remember seeing at our local tracks, Dale Pulde's '77 War Eagle. I gathered some parts, a resin body, decals, etc. and I'll see how it goes. If you're a stickler for technical perfection, please look away. You'll be apalled, lol. I take a LOT of liberties with detail, to ease construction and fit. In the end if it makes me happy, I'm satisfied. I've cleaned up most of the pieces, drilled some holes , and started painting some of the bits. I want to get it on it's wheels so I can place the engine and start on the tinwork. Hopefully, things will go smoothly.
  14. Excellent color choice, well done!
  15. Hello, Stumbled across the site this weekend and spent much of the holiday admiring the fantastic work displayed here! Lots of inspiration and ideas here. Lifelong modeler (57)from south Jersey, mostly race and muscle cars. Soft spot for vintage fuel cars. Getting my feet wet with resin bodies, learning/trying something new on each build. Rapidly approaching the pinnacle of my mediocrity, lol. Looking forward to sharing some of my builds here. Currently working on Dale Pulde's War Eagle AA/FC replica.
  16. Great finish and color combination!
