1/18 scale '69 Hurst/Olds convertible build
Yenkocamaro replied to J007KLEIN's topic in Diecast Corner
Hey Joe, good to see you had time to work on this again. Got to tell you, with the work you have done, that top looks spot on. Good job Looking forward to your progress. Cheers, Lance -
OK guys, a little more scratch building going on. Now that I have a tool box, I'm going to need..... If you guys recognize what these are, then I'm on the right track Cheers, Lance

Thanks Nick, sorry if you got too excited Thank you Dennis. Cheers, Lance

Nick, this is my favorite product. It has saved a couple of windshields for me, even one with super glue on it. I agree with the need for sanding in certain situations, but it sounds like you don't need that at this point. Cheers, Lance

Thanks Tom. The size 1/16" incudes the plastic coating. They also make a smaller size, which is 3/64" #90101 by Plastruct. Cheers, Lance

Hey Nick, here is an update on the toolbox. I added a sliding drawer, trim and handles on the lid. Almost done Cheers, Lance

Thanks Mike. I use Plastruct plastic weld liquid cement. Thanks Nick Cheers, Lance

Hey Guys, I'm scratch building a 1/18 Pickup bed Toollbox, and wanted to hinge the top cover. Its a very simple pin style hinge made from plastruct #90102 1/16" coated wire. In the pics, you will see the end of the rod is rough cut, so you need to smooth that out, so the plastic coating can slide off. be careful not to bend the wire. cut back the distance you want with an Exacto knife for the end piece. Score the plastic all the way around down to the wire, then slide the end piece off the wire, using the Xacto blade to push it off. This is a process that requires patience, as sometimes it will slide off easier than the next one. Then take a small file, and file the exposed wire all the way around until the plastic piece rotates freely when you slide it back on. Repeat for the other side. You will see, I cut a relief in the lid, so that it will not bind when opened. The ends will be glued to the cover, and the center piece will be glued to the box. I just added a piece of Plastruct flatstock for added support on the middle of the hinge, because of the hinge length. Cheers, Lance

Can you create rust with spray cans?
Yenkocamaro replied to Volksfan's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Hey snake, that is similar to the way I used to do it. I used and old butter container, got ahold of a few burned out open bathroom fan motors, disassembled the flat steel plates, and stuck one of them in the dish with water, and a little table salt to help speed up the process. Put the lid on, and in a few days I had instant rust, with crusties Nothing better than the real deal. Cheers, Lance- 3 replies

Altered wheelbase...why?
Yenkocamaro replied to MrBuick's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Dick Landy was a great innovator of Automotive research in relation to what would work, and what would not in racing. Landys research hit on weight transfer, and his 64 Dodge shown here was the result of his testing. This was an early AWB test car, that later resulted in factory built Altered wheelbase cars. Great tip, Lloyd! Many moons ago, I used tea strainers for holding small parts to strip chrome or paint. Cheers, Lance

Why the variety in scales?
Yenkocamaro replied to aurfalien's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
You also forgot 1/43rd. I always wondered why Monogram did 1/24th, when it was so close to 1/25th? Even more questionable, was Revells 1/20th scale and didn't MPC make some 1/20 scale model kits? Now that I'm older, and my eyesight isn't as good as it used to be, I appreciate the bigger scales. Cheers, Lance -
The show is always great, in that I get to see my friends, and discuss whats going on. Sales however, were very poor this month. Cheers, Lance

Hey Tom, I checked Ebay, and MCC is not even listed anymore under the brands, so I guess they were bought out by Sunstar. Cheers, Lance Thank you, Thomas. Cheers, Lance Thank you Andy. Cheers, Lance

Hey Tom, thanks for catching that, You are correct of course, it is a Motor City Classics. Must have had Sunstar on the brain when I wrote that Cheers, Lance

Thanks for the support, Guys. Tom, you should have seen my work table, before I cleaned it, and put the tools away Seems like every tool you have finds its way out to cause clutter, but if you put it away, I minute later you need it again! I'm heading to a model/Diecast show, this Sunday, and they have a project table, so I pulled out my display case to present it there. Here you can see the Diecast car that I started this project with. Cheers, Lance

Hey thanks Tom, and Christian. Here are a few pics of where I'm at on the build. Lots of scratchbuilding, and Diecast parts are very hard to come by, not like the old model car days, I had thousands of parts! Still have a ways to go, but will post a pic of the finished model. Hopefully I'll be done before 2017 Cheers, Lance

Ditto, and in recent years, I use the Novus also. Cheers, Lance -
Looks sweet Thomas, nice job! Cheers, Lance

I always liked Danbury cars, and was happiest with some of their famous Customs like George Barris's Hirohata Merc. Cheers, Lance

And when you are done with the window, you can do your nails Seriously, I use them as well, and have for years. I've also used the Novus polishing system for plastics. I have the number #2 - fine scratch remover. Cheers, Lance

Hey Cliff, these engines are cool Thanks for posting them, do you know what scale they are? Cheers, Lance

Hey Guys, I decided to bite the bullet, and hand form the rest of the brackets for my 1/18 scratch built wheelie bars. I finished making the wheelie bars, and thought I would share a few pics. Cheers, Lance
