Seems this post has been turned into a "I remember when" rather than a build post. Any updates on the build?
I finished it a page back… 😂
I LOVE hearing all these stories and stuff tho…so feel free to keep it going everyone…I’ve got more of these to build and all the pointers are interesting and helpful!

A little more progress…engine assembled and (mostly) ready for installation…
Because of the slightly unusual way this kit assembles, I can’t finish up the plug wires until it’s in place, but no biggie…
Shot some enamel ready to chrome the wheels - I think these will really pop in bright mirror chrome (and Rusto tractor paint levels out really nicely…)
Pinstriped the little vase I made for the dash:
I wanted to add a flower, but didn’t want to 3D print one - felt like challenging myself to make it myself…went to Hobby Lobby and looked around for a starting point and found these whatever they ares…
Drilled out a few of the shapes and attached them to a ‘stem’ and then painted…looks ok I think:
Meanwhile on the interior, added the door cards with just some PE handles for the smoothed out kinda street-roddy look:
Started working on getting the rear end together - used some 3d printed fittings for the airlines:
Detailed up the shifter - cut the knob from the kit piece plus the cool little plate that attaches to the floor, and made everything in between the two:
And spent a couple of evenings polishing out the body:
The pile of parts gets bigger and bigger…Got a coupla three parts to print and make (mostly front steering stuff) and then it’s basically ready to assemble! Thanks for looking…more soon!

Stopped at the Merrillville, IN HL after work today. They had one Demon and one '60 Ford PU on the shelf. They're not there anymore...😁
I’m glad you said…that saves me driving there to see if they have them 😂

Those tires look great…but that wicker seat is amazing! Nice work!

Got a belated birthday gift from a modeling buddy today…he builds mostly armor stuff but had some cool car ‘junk’ he sent my way…
Box full of various loose parts and sprues and goodies…
Some cool resin, plus most of a Revell 49 Merc:
I think this Bantam is resin - anyone know who made it?
Ricky Couch Badfish body, cast by Jimmy Flintstone:
I suspect this is a Flintstone body too, but I have NO IDEA what it is…any ideas anyone?
And this is cool - we’re (apparently) doing a build off of these 1/72 VW Kubelwagens for an upcoming show…scared to open it in case I lose a part already…
Has a 1/72 motorcycle in there too!

I know I got on this ride a little after it was goin' but thought I would give a little knowledge about the '70s backyard race cars, we ran drums at both ends of the car and we used Pontiac drums on the rear right out of the '55 the housing came from and they're pretty close to the drums you have here, on the front we used '68 Lincoln Continental spindles and the front brakes were three inches wide on the braking surface but had a very pronounced group of cast in cooling fins and the part we were a little up in the air over is they were completely cast iron drums but they looked a lot like the Buick drums in quite a few different available kits from the Round2 Buick ones to the ones I think that I will use and they are the ones that Revell stuck in the Model A Coupe and Roadster kits. Your looking good on your way to get it ready for the first race but knowing how racers are you will no doubt realize that the good things that are said about a full nights sleep are way over rated. We didn't go to dual master cylinders or even a dual stage master cylinder until the last dirt car we built. Most of the rides we stuck together used the "Ol' Reliable" fruit jar topped Mustang master cylinders. We did try a bright idea where we decided that if it was good enough for General Motors why wouldn't it work in our race car and for a race or two we tried using the dual master cylinder from the early '60s GM trucks and went to a hydraulic clutch set up, but for some reason we kept having clutch failure to release problems. I'm not sure but I felt for some reason that we had them switched and were just not getting the volume we needed but the driver (and owner) voted us down and we went back to the manual release set up from our ancient history and it never gave us a problem until we poked a hole in the release fork with the pushrod from the bell crank that was fixed by just welding an end for another release fork to the end of a complete one to make a double thickness part that was still in the bell housing when we sold the car.
I love first-hand information like this…I store it all away for the next one. THANK YOU!! 🙏

It 0009. It’s semi-transparent and like working with an old Testors candy
That would explain it - that’s the transparent version of that color. W084 is the opaque version…and covers like a dream, for reference…

Model A rear crossmember, transverse leaf spring, and Halibrand Quick Change would be great
I’m sure there IS a kit that includes these parts that can make for a relatively easy conversion to backdate these Revell Deuce kits to a more traditional rear suspension setup, maybe even with a 32 frame, but I can’t think of one right now…
The AMT T 2-in-1 T kits have the Quickchange and a suitable rear spring (and are easily available) but I wonder if there’s anything better out there as a parts source for someone who wants to take the street-rod out and put the ‘traditional’ into these kit? The Atlantis (Revell) Mooneyes kit is probably a good parts source too, if you don’t mind fabricating the Model A crossmember…
Any ideas Tim? I remember you backdating a Revell Deuce in the final Scale Auto I think, but I don’t have it to hand right now to recall how you did it…

Looks awesome Matt! What trick do you like for those nice crisp dark panel lines?

Is that Phthalo green the W009 part number or the W084 part number on the bottle?
Ive had GREAT results with Wicked / Createx so I’m curious which one exactly you had there…

Looking for ideas on the chassis color, Metallic Dark Red or Metallic or Pearl Black to match the body? Your ideas and input are requested and welcome...
Cool project!
I think I’d decide frame color based on whether I was going for a more traditional looking build or something more contemporary. Can’t beat a black frame for something old-school, and color-coded to the body makes me think of more of a contemporary build, personally….BUT, it’s a hot rod, so there are no wrong answers 🤷♂️ -

Very cool!
Thanks John!
A bunch of progress this week, despite dealing with contractors for half of it (new windows…)
Got the body into color:
Actually, almost everything that isn’t chrome, rubber or leather will be this shade, so I had a BUNCH of stuff to paint…
Building up clear with my favorite rattle-can clearcoat:
I found some aluminum blocks for Beetles that seemed like they’d be something you might put in this street-rod inspired project…shot the engine and trans with Vallejo chrome over black. It doesn’t make the best chrome, but it’s a decent polished aluminum…
Added some detail with a black wash:
The interior is a nice milky-coffee tan:
I added a little drybrushing of some dark pastels to the seats and door cards, but there’s not too many crevices or crannies to add depth TO…adds a little to the effect though I think…before:
and after:
The floor will have a tan carpet, so I shot it with the same Testor’s acrylic as the other interior pieces…
Shot with an intercoat of clear to protect the paint, then a few light mists of spray mount, followed by flocking…
Shook the loose stuff free…
…and that’s another piece of the puzzle:
I’m in that endless prep/prime/paint stage right now, but I’m getting closer to having all the major parts ready for assembly…I like how the colors are looking together though!
Thanks for looking - more soon, soon as I’ve done more!

I know nothing about the subject matter, but your building techniques on it are GREAT!!! I’ll be following the rest of this build, now I found it…

Closely tied with his little blue blown “Olds Rod” that used a Beverly Hillbillies Oldsmobile body to make the Oldsmobile version of a T-bucket…can’t find a pic of that one right now 😕
Found it!

What a killer build - I love the use of an Olds engine to tie it together…- 1

Urgh, that’s even worse…mine was undamaged at least…
Something cool I noticed when checking this kit out, which was alluded to earlier…because it comes with the smaller roadster wheels and tires as an option you get TWO complete sets of tires, plus a roadster windshield for the parts box. Not sure if Revell has ever put two sets of tires in one of their Deuce kits before?

Mine came in a bubble mailer - Amazon hasn’t got good at shipping kit boxes yet apparently
I wonder tho if sellers have any say in the packaging used for sending their merch, and they need to specify to put these kits in actual Amazon boxes? Seems dumb that I can order $3s worth of pencils or something and they come in a huge box, but a kit comes stuffed in a padded envelope...Still…price was good and my LHS doesn’t have any of these, so…

I told the kid at the tire shop that my Mustang was ‘in gear’ to make sure he didn’t accidentally crank it and drive it thru their planter at the weekend - he said “oh…it’s a stick? Cool!!!”
Im sure he’s seen plenty before, but I was surprised it was uncommon enough to be worth mentioning.
I suck at driving my wife’s (auto) Passat - I’m always trying to pump the non-existent third pedal and reaching down instinctively to change gear when the autobox isn’t quite doing what I wanted 😂
