I need to buy some new brushes for brush painting using MM enamel but it’s been a while since I bought any. I will probably go to Michaels or Hobby Lobby both are close. Anyone bought brushes there recently, what brand, and how did they work? Any recommendations?

The tires I am painting are plastic not vinyl so I am not worried so much about the paint but how do you mask the circles? -

Cool what kit did you use? There are a couple of 1/35 military bikes suitable for conversion along with Harley's there are Indian's and Triumph's -

I have been planning everything out tiny doesn’t describe some of these parts I'm thinking I will pre paint as much as I can on the sprue, glue it with mini drops of super glue, then touch up anything I miss. Some parts like the gas tank I will pre assemble before painting. I got some better decals from archer find transfers for the instruments Red frame and tank with a black engine and aluminum heads sounds about right. -

The good thing about a bobber is you get to leave parts off The other good thing is unlike military modeling this is a home built so there really isn't all that much rivet counting. I have a couple of pics I am using as a guide but I am trying to replicate a look not a particular bike I need to make a run to the paint and glue store but hopefully will be showing some progress next week -
I like to have a back story for my builds for this one it will be a surplus Harley WLA turned into a bobber post war. I am using this for the source bike and plan to strip it down (no front fender, bobbed rear fender) apply a "civilian" paint job and selectively aluminum paint in place of chrome. Sort of a back yard bobber

That last one with the 32 valve V6 looks perfect thanks. I like the wheels also

would like to use Johans 1930's coupe for a street rod whats a good kit to pull a late model Mercedes engine drivetrain wheels and tires from? Street rod not race or hot tod
-
Personally I'd like to see it with the same size front and rear wheels and tires but it is heads and shoulders ahead of what I did. The back tire size is great but I don't like the big and littles the wheels work though

Nice I like it

Maybe in a bit. Just got this as an early Christmas present and i am three months into the build - it was on sale then. Between this and a couple of other projects my build time for a new project is a year away http://www.model-space.com/us/build-samurai-armor.html not mine but you can see the detail http://forum.us.model-space.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=6524

Isn't J509 Clark Gable's car he ended up leaving to rot in a field or something? Carole Lombard gave it to him and when she died in the plane crash he couldn't bear to look at it It is a beautiful car

Different power. Power today could be a short hood and a blown big block pushing 600 horsepower. Power in the 1930's usually meant a long hood with a straight 8 or V12 or V16 under it Or side pipes as in the SJ or Auburn. But I don't like side pipes except on ACD's and Early Mercedes I think the stance also needs to change. The nose down look that works so well on 32 Ford hot rods looks odd when the nose lengthens And what about power? The long hood needs to cover something longer. Two flatheads coupled in tandem to make a V16? Something modern and exotic? A war surplus Alison engine?

It's going to take some playing. I think the original was too much but to me no chop looks like a Dr's car. Not sure why but that's what I think of Maybe some side mount spares to take up some of that long hood. Plenty of room behind the front wheels and before the doors now
-
What's the saying? A camel is a horse a horse designed by a committee ? Notice how some like the chop, some don't. Some like the longer trunk, some don't. At the end it all comes down to personal preference i wasn't trying to to copy the Judkins just I had it in the back of my mind. It is a completely different car i like the 32 Ford but to me the stock outline doesn't say power. To me in the 1930's a long hood said power because you needed to cover a long engine.

So let's try this. I lengthened the hood to fit my mythical V-16 but left everything from the firewall back alone. Ignoring the goofy front fenders what changes, if any, would you make to offset the additional length? I actually like the shorter trunk area I think it enhances the "power" image I was going for

I wanted people to jump in. The exercise is to lengthen the hood to imply more power and then change the rest of the proportions to match do it looks "right" without doing radical bodywork or a complete redesign something that may not be possible but fun in photoshop
-
This was a quickie I agree the proportions need to be played with tge thought behind it? in the 30's a longer hood essentially meant power. Straight 8's, V-16's, etc. needed the room. I added the additional trunk to balance it but I agree like the Mercedes it doesn't necessarily need it the chopped to is to make the cab area look longer without stretching it but I think it needs additional work i had I mind a Duesenberg Judkins coupe as a sort of inspiration and please pick it apart if you don't like it no hard feelings on my part
