Just kicking an idea around to Revell's 32 Ford 3 window coupe I lengthened the hood and trunk and chopped the top in this photo Thoughts?
-
Really really hot water seemed to work. Did the first one but it cooled down too much before the second one Didn't seem to damage the tire any. The hubs look like machines aluminum don't want to mess with them too much
-
Put some color on it the flash in the picture makes it look like it has white spots that it doesn't.Going to let it dry a few days then rub it out and foil it

Trying to fit the tires to the hubs on my Western Models 540K but the openings look a little small. Was thinking of soaking them in hot water to see if it softened them enough to fit them on but I don't want to damage them. Any suggestions?
-
I put three color coats on, waited between coats, then three coats of clear, waited between coats, Dupli-Color Perfect Match paint. I put it on a little thicker than I should have (newbie mistake) but not too bad I think. How long do I give it before I begin rubbing it out?

It's a fun kit so far. I have one spot (ok a few) on the deck that I'm not happy with I keep primering and sanding trying to get it to the point I like it. I am having so much fun with this one I will probably look for another one of the same. Plus some others. I have been looking at the Tin Wizard white metal Mercedes kits as well
-
Definitely needs a rear door of some type Looks good so far
-
Thanks tires aren't bad just some sink marks on the tread. I was looking at rubber cement for fixing flats (plugging the holes) thought I might fill them with that and then position the sink mark down. It's definitely "curbside" no engine metal axles so it isn't like I am gonna show off the underneath anyway
-
The rear deck with the fit of the rumble seat lid and the spare tire lid are the worst Body and fenders are all one piece of metal
-
Got some primer on and started on the body work still a ways to go with the cleanup
-
Seeing as how this is a metal model and some heat won't bother it is it worth baking the paint? Is this just to help it dry or does it harden it or anything? And of I do bake how high heat and how long? I am using Dupli-Color Perfect Match
-
Just to show what I am dealing with one side not to bad the other a bit rough but I suppose this is natural for white metal kits. Starting the sand and prime now then will need to add some missing detail
-
Ok it came in and like I said I have more questions than things to share The body looks mostly good but parts look rough, like the mold was chewed a little in the corners, and other parts look like they are missing a little metal. I was going to do a little cleanup on the bare metal but is it better to spray a coat of primer sooner than later to see what I am dealing with? What's a good filler to use to build up the missing trim? What would stick and not shrink later or crack under the paint? Looks like only one missing piece (one of the side window frames) that I can tell so far so I am good to go there it looks simple enough that I can duplicate the other one. I will try to do a close up of the body issues I see but all I have for photos is my phone so we will see how they come out One other question the wheels look rather nice actually look like maybe turned aluminum with wire inserts the tires are rubber but they have huge sink marks the tread. How do I fill rubber? Should I move this "build" thread to the question board instead?
-
Wow thanks. I doubt my little model will need the level of detail you can provide I am just hoping not to embarrass myself here
-
Thank you I will keep that in mind about the primer. I am going to keep this one simple and focus on fit and finish as opposed to trying to add details or anything fancy like the rest of you do. Removing mold lines, smoothing the body, that type of thing. I am also working on colors was planning a black body with chrome trim. I found this photo of the interior figured I would try for something like this, it is Jack Warner's 540K so looking for a good color match and also a photo of the dashboard that wasn't hard

Hi This is new for me my first 1:43 kit my first metal kit and my first model in over 30 years. Plus my first workbench post. Last thing I built was a 1:16 Rolls, if memory serves, with some horrible gold plated "chrome". Will probably have more questions than things to share but here are the parts they are sending me. Might be a few days until it comes in but meanwhile I was going to buy some sandpaper, self etching primer, sandable primer, and a few other odds and ends
-
Would I be better off using all dupli color to keep in the same family? Do they do a good black an clear? Is it lacquer or enamel?
-
So just dupli color green primer? Auto zone or one of those places? I will check for it thank you Don't see a lot of 1:43 here does anyone build these? Since I don't airbrush what do you recommend for chrome? Seeing as it's metal I was thinking one of those little nickel electric plating kits and plating the trim?
-
OK looking at the builds here got me inspired and I am doing my first model kit since the late 1980's. Been a long time and I starting clean so will have a lot of questions. I bought a old Western Models metal 1:43 540K to start with I wanted to paint it with Testor Model Master Lacquer - Black or Red (still deciding) so questions 1: Primer - what to use and seeing it's 1:43 I would think something thin? Or do I need primer for a metal model? 2. Anything I need to know about Testor Model Master Lacquer 3. What's a good paint for the interior - sort of a tannish light brownish leather color
-
Not sure where to put this but does anyone make a good 1/25 late model Mercedes that I could use the engine, suspension parts, wheels, tires, brakes, and maybe some of the interior on a street rod project?
-
Since we are all dreaming here how about a 1:16 Duesenberg chassis with parts for both long and short chassis, regular and supercharged, plus miscellaneous things like bumpers, lights, grill shell, etc. that came with the chassis. Of course taking advantage of all the new technologies for molding and a sheet of photo etch where needed Then release a bunch of different bodies with the correct interior parts, fenders, and anything else unique to that style. Of course taking advantage of all the new technologies for molding and a sheet of photo etch where needed Just dreaming

"See post #126" missed that detail - nice job !

Don't know if you found any rifles but look for 120mm weapons same as 1:16 but figures are usually listed under 120mm not 1:16 Like here http://www.djparkins.com/acatalog/120mm_Weapons.html
