  1. Thanks for the tips, I was thinking of the spice rack for the paint, bed bath and beyond is 15 minutes from me, I want to add some storage underneath so I may check them out.
  2. Thanks, The right side of the desk will be covered in masking paper while airbrushing and hand painting to keep it "mostly" clean
  3. I also bought that on amazon, its made by taotronics, i think it was like $30 US or so, led lights and built in usb charger, worth every penny to me, note that i also have a ceiling light on in that pic
  4. got them on amazon, i forget the seller though, just search for Hobbico mats
  5. Here are the before and after pics of the upgrade, I'm very happy with the outcome, its almost a little to nice for a hobby bench but I got it cheap at IKEA. I will eventually build some nice paint shelves for the wall, but even with the paint on the table i have plenty of space.
  6. So this kit came with a bottle of acrylic paint supposedly matching the paint of the real rig, turns out it was an ugly brown/beige color that wasnt even close. So i tried out the Tamiya metallic brown, which is more orange than brown. I like it even though it still not a match to the original. This part is with no clear coat.
  7. I'm brand new to these trucks and had no idea about the engine, thanks for the heads up. I'm still impressed with the engine though, the dress up parts are good enough for me, but my favorite part is the exterior styling, I don't get to see trucks like that here in the US
  8. The kit is nicely detailed, i would recommend it, just be ready to do some sanding, everything comes in two parts, so you'll be sanding a lot of seams and plenty of mold lines, but thats part of the fun
  9. Absolutely beautiful build, and excellent photos!!
  10. Small update, got the frame and most of the engine and rear end sanded and a coat of gray Vallejo acrylic primer, followed by the Vallejo gloss black primer where I am planning to use the Vallejo metal colors series of paint for the finish coat. I'm still not sure what color i will use, but I'm leaning towards gunmetal gray with some dark aluminum.

    Corvette ZR-1

Thank You! Weird that you had problems, I used the Tamiya spray can primer with excellent results along with the automotive touchup spray can and spray gloss clear coat, I did not decant any of them, straight from the can. The only airbrushing was the black window trim and the interior parts. Now that I think of it, I only used some car wax to bring out the shine, no polishing or wet sanding either
  12. So heres my biggest project to date, I've got a couple cars under my belt and I've been waiting to do this build even since I saw it. I have always been a fan of the Scania rigs, and this one is my favorite color schemes. My worries are that I'm getting in over my head with such a big build being so new the hobby, I'm looking for any suggestions, techniques, tools etc. to get this build right. Any feedback will really help, thanks and wish me luck.
  13. Love that color! awesome build, a buddy of mine had the twin turbo one back in the day, thing was fast as hell!!

    Corvette ZR-1

Finally finished this build, took me longer than expected and its far from perfect, but I'm satisfied. I love how the color came out, I ordered a spray can of touch up paint for the real ZR-1 called Jetstream Blue Metallic Tintcoat from automotive touchup.com. I also used their gloss clear coat and loved both of them. The rest of the painting is airbrushed Tamiya acrylics. The only thing I did not box stock was the carbon fiber roof and carbon fiber inside of the hood, ordered the decal from scale motorsports and it was worth every penny. Got the roof done in one shot, the hood took two tries and its still just ok.
  15. test fit of the roll cage before painting
  16. The decals for the harness are really nice, the carbon fiber for the back isn't realistic but fits good
  17. Thanks, the pics don't do the paint justice, beautiful sheen to it and its not even clear coated. just a little polish with silk cloth.
  18. I used vallejo acrylic metal colors "dark aluminum" with their gloss black primer.
  19. About a little over a year into the hobby, new to the site, and my first build on this site. I bought this kit with the intent to do all the decals, but soon after i bought it the Vallejo Metal Colors caught my eye and got me thinking. ( right now I only use acrylic paints because I'm spraying indoors and don't have a spray booth). I choose the magnesium color for the body and grabbed a bottle of dark aluminum just in case, also got some Tamiya titanium gold which I ended up using on the shocks and the calipers. I'm glad I got the dark aluminum because it came in handy. Everything was first airbrushed with the Vallejo gray acrylic primer, then the parts getting the metal colors were airbrushed with Vallejo gloss black primer, then a couple thin coats of metal color. The Vallejo metal colors are amazing out of the airbrush, along with the gray primer, the gloss black primer needed a little more thinning but it works good. Body is almost done, need work on the windows, interior and roll cage, the color on the roll cage is killing me, any suggestions would be awesome.
  20. Hey Mike, I'm somewhat new to the hobby also , about a year. I bought my airbrush setup from tcpglobal.com, http://www.tcpglobal.com/ABD-KIT-3AIR-20.html#.Vp01lTZlmi4, this is the exact kit. For $100 you won't find anything better. The airbrushes you get are far from quality brushes, but they let you learn, and help you decide if its something you want to build on. I have since gone with a pricey Iwata airbrush, $130 bucks! But I am using it through the same compressor and its amazing. Hope you enjoy the new hobby , its very addictive once you get going.
  21. thats for the welcome everyone! GlennM that is an awesome color choice, can't wait to see where you go with it.
  22. New here and pretty new to modeling. My name is Matt and I live just north of Boston. Very happy I found this forum, I was on another one and I swear tumble weeds were passing across the screen. I use to model as a kid but never seriously, this past year I went all in on the hobby, and I can say I'm officially addicted to styrene, in a good way. I'm on my 5th model now, the first 2 were just practice, which I royally screwed up, but I'm back on track. I have a '29 Ford Model A done, a Corvette ZR-1 that just needs the body glued on, and my current project is a Castrol Tom's Supra, with custom paint and maybe some decals. Pics below Don't have an updated pic of this one yet
  23. This is an amazing build, great work. I once was a proud owner of an SRT-4 neon, by far the fastest car I will ever own, I think of it every day still.
