Very nice build Curt. I really like the Indy roadsters and that you picked an uncommon paint scheme. Keep em coming.

Hey! It's not April 15th yet. Crawl back in your hole.

The valve covers in the kit are real nice but I haven't built the engine yet. If Harold is involved it should be great. I have the Replicas & Miniatures 250 GTO engine and if it's as good as that one it will be worth buying. Acu-Stion is making some PE and some turned funnels for the kit that should be out as I type this. Here is a picture of the sheet. I'm sure there will be other PE sets coming soon too. Thanks for the kudos

Wow Richard, that's some neat history. I recently ran across a color picture of Dan taken in the pits at Lemans next to the car he drove in 58. You can just see a small portion of it in the background. It was a red Testa Rosa with the two white stripes and blue center stripe. I have only run across one other color picture of it and it was a side shot. Unfortunately I couldn't copy the picture to my files as it was blocked.

Yeah you will get to use those #102 decals and keep it "red". Should be nice. I'm also doing the Ameican #22 white and blue entry at the same time. That one will be mostly out of the box except for the custom #22 decals I'm printing.

Boy, that was a while ago! I had to use both roadsters and a Tamiya Celica for the roof. I'm glad somebody remembered. I knew that was a race to beat the model manufacturers but this one may be 50-50 it gets produced. Either way, it's how I have fun. Somebody will probably do a resin body for it sometime soon. (not me, I just build) Thanks for the memories Bob.

I decided that since the decals for Phill Hills 1958 Lemans winner were included in the new Hasagawa 250 Testa Rosa kit that it was a dare to build it. Well sometimes I just can't help myself. The decals may be there but the car needs a lot of changes to it. First you have to add sides to the front fenders: I made a pattern from card stock and bent up the sheet plastic pieces. After the glue dried I added 2-part epoxy putty to the seams. Some filling needs to be done inbetween the fender pontoons and the nose. Plus the nose needs to be shortened about an eighth of an inch to square it up. The opening has to be widened and rounded a bit and two slots need to be added on either side. Thanks for looking

I recently finished a curbside version of the O7’ Lemans winning Audi R10 TDI. Since I had already made this model once in the 06’ Lemans trim I decided I didn’t want to bother with the engine bay this time. Dexter had Cartograph print up a very extensive set of decals. Everything but the silver paint is provided on the sheet. I scratch built the camera pod and antennas throughout. I also added a set of seat belts to go with the buckles in the Dexter detail set. The Dexter PE detail set also includes the side intake louvers, body fasteners, vents in the rear and next to the cockpit, rear screens, transmission end plate and running position marker lights. All the decals went down perfectly with some Solvaset and a little effort. They are printed without flash so there was very little trimming to do. After it was all done I decided to weather it as it looked during the race. I did that with my Iwata airbrush and a very fine paint brush. Enjoy the pictures and thanks for looking. Here's the real one: And the model: (keep in mind everything but the silver is done with decals)

Hasegawa '58 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa!!!!!

Well my kits showed up on Saturday along with the photo-etch wheels. On inspection of the kit I believe we may be in for some different versions of this kit. It comes with a decal sheet that has the number 14's from Phil Hill's winning factory version that was a very different bocy style. It had strait side fenders and a different hood. There are also other racing numbers that I can't identify right now. There are extra headlights that would be used in the grill for other racing versions. Based on how well this initial run has gone, I wouldn't be surprised to see the factory body style in the future. As far as the photo-etch wheels, they are very nice. I scuffed the etch and assembled all four in less than 2 hours. To be correct you should paint them silver but they look nice this way too. Be sure to at least scuff the etchings with 600 grit prior to assembly. The kit wheels are nice but these are really much nicer. I can see them going on some other vintage models too. Here are the kit wheels and the PE wheels: The tires should have Englebert lettering. The only ones I have are on this sheet by Speedline. I also looked into my reference books and found the car to go with the "102" decals. It's the third place car from the 1958 Targa Florio with Wolfgang Von Tripps and Mike Hawthorn at the wheel. -
Hasegawa Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa Is Here!
JHDrew replied to ismaelg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Dang, I'm still waiting for mine. Did you spring for the wheels? Did you order it from HLJ? If so, I hope mine comes soon. PS I haven't forgotten to mail that package. I've been sick for the past 3 weeks. Later -
Nice and enjoyable to look at, and I was taking drivers ed during that summer. Who could forget that time in their life. Thanks for sharing

Hey Curt, Don't beat yourself up. It's still a nice piece that you should be proud of. As long as you had fun building it you were successful. Keep on building!
-
Yes it raced like that in 1972 at the Lemans 24 hours. Very nice build Curt. I like em clean like that. Not to be critical, there were intakes in the lower portion of the rear quarterpanel just ahead of the tire. Thanks for sharing!

Looking real good Bud. Are you going to finish it in time for Cobo?
-
I have an old Heller Lotus 49B in 1/24th. Kind of afraid to build it. Also, I've sen the Tamiya 1/12th Lotus 49 evil-bay.

Thanks everyone for all the kind words. Looks like I will be doing "honey-do" projects for a few months so nothing off the bench for a while. Probably won't have anything to post again until the fall. Glad you all enjoyed the build. Oh, Simon the head lights are box stock. I botched the re-chrome job. Len, the fuel tank lid doesn't work it's just the style. Thanks again eveyone.

Very Nice! I always liked Silent Sam. Thanks for sharing Len.

His E-bay store says 5/8" Here's a link... Herb Deeks Retro

OK, more updates: I decided to make it with dual exhaust. Here is the roughed in manifold. Like I said earlier, I wanted to do wire wheels. I bought a set from Herb Deeks. Not correct Dayton style but I like them. I cut out the kit steelie centers to use for the rims and made the wheel backs from parts box wheels and strip plastic. The tires are some vintage resins that I have been saving for a project like this one. Not sure where they originated. I made a rear view mirror cowl out of stock plastic. Here it is for a test fit and the fresh unpolished paint on the body. I cut out the gages on the dashboard and added clear plastic to the back side. The gage decals were then applied to plastic card and attached from behind. It gives the gages more depth this way. I also made the "Oh sh@#" bare from wire and metal repair tape. The interior will be the Tamiya Dull Red. My next entry will probably be put in the "Under Glass" department. Hope you enjoyed the pictures.
-
Awwwww I wish I would have known. I already destroyed the steelies by cutting out the centers and installing the Herb Deeks photo etch wheels. I was looking for a MKII on E-bay but didn't wan't to pay that kind of price. Timing, it's all about timing.

It's going to be the lighter Aston-Martin racing green mettalic with rust red interior. The light green will show the curves off better.

Wow, some nice old Fisher's and Martin's you got there. I built one of the birdcages before. Still have to get to the Donahue 512M. I love clean builds of old racers. Thanks for sharing.

When I saw the Revell of Germany reissue of the Jaguar XK120 had a plastic body I thought it would make a fun quick build. My original intent was to make a shelf model right out of the box. After I started doing the research for the car I kept seeing all the bucket seat versions that had no bumpers and were being used as racers. So I decided that would be the way to go. Here is the start. The large holes for the plastic hood hinge has been filled in and the bumper mounts as well. I cleaned all the clutter off the firewall tray as I will make most of the items for it. The hood is a real pain as it doesn't fit very well and needed a lot of TLC and putty. The cast in frame under it caused a noticable dimple in the hood that also needed work. Speaking of the hood. I decided to try the dual pivot hinge and make it work for real. I glued some brass tube and added epoxy putty to the area to replicate the hinge. Here I have filled in the gas filler cover and also notice the gasket between the fenders and body. Work has begun on the liscense plate support. At some point I decided I didn't want the side vents so... I wanted bucket seats but I found a way to use as much of the existing split bench as possible. The seat bottoms were used intact and a section of each seat back was cut out and bent to fit the new bucket back. I then mixed up some two part epoxy putty and filled it in as shown Since it's going to have bucket seats the area behind them needed to be detailed and the drive tunnel needs to be detailed. Here it's all roughed in prior to epoxy putty. Hope you enjoyed the pictures and found them helpful. More to come next week. Happy modeling.
