Ferrari F430 GT Risi by Studio 27
JHDrew replied to JHDrew's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Brendan, Just a thought, wouldn't it be cheaper to buy the Scale Productions conversion for the Tamiya kit or am I missing something? Actually, I wouldn't mind doing one of those myself. -
Behindthe Lizard??? ###### Lizards!!

Chris, Check out my post from Sept 24 on the same subject in the General directory for pictures

The first one rolled off the assembly line on this date in 1908. Having grown up in the Detroit area, I find that kind of neat. Now get back to work...

Received the package from HLJ last night. It looks like it will be a very easy build. Not much detail comes with it. I'm actually kind of disappointed for what I paid for it. ($223) The body detail is spot on so it will still look very nice.

Congratulations!!!

$223.00!!!! It getting harder to spend that kind of money and still feel OK about it. But I sure do love that car. (My CFO has put me on hold for awhile because of this purchase.) -
Ferrari F430 GT Risi by Studio 27
JHDrew posted a topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Just wanted to show the latest pictures of the Studio 27 Ferrari F430 GT Risi car that raced in the 2007 ALMS. Some of you may recall their fender banging close finish ahead of the Porsche at Sebring that year. It was also my first visit to the track. Studio 27 is also making the two Lemans cars from the same season. Anyway, my order is on it's way from Hobby Link Japan. Enjoy the pictures. -

So you're snubbing the International (Canada/USA) gathering in Michigan Friday night again this year for those Southern Ohio slackers (or did I mean snackers). I'm hurt!!! -
Look what's coming form the Studio 27 crew... It's the Risi Ferrari F430GT from the 2007 season. There will be the two cars from the ALMS season and the #97 & #99 that raced at Lemans that year as well. Going to add this one to the collection for sure.

Nice work. Boy I wish I could get some free time to work on mine. The car finished 6th in the 58' LeMans race. It was driven by Jean Beurlys and Alain de Changy and was 26 laps back of the winner.

Looks like the GM vs Ford pony car war will be back in full swing... The legion of Chevrolet Camaro fans will have a new place to focus their enthusiasm starting next January at Daytona International Speedway, as the legendary V8-powered classic Chevrolet performance machine will return to competition in the Grand-Am KONI Challenge GS Class in 2009. Riley Technologies has been named the exclusive builder for the Camaro for KONI Challenge competition. The entry will be closely based on the highly anticipated all-new 2010 Camaro, which was recently officially unveiled simultaneously at the GM Tech Center in Warren, Michigan, and GM West Coast Advanced Design Studio North Hollywood, California, GM. By entering the KONI Challenge, the Camaro will be competing head to head against a world-class field of production-based racers. The category has established itself as key showcase for both driver and product capabilities, and has enjoyed tremendous fields thanks in part to a SPEED television presence as well as a rules package that keeps cost containment a constant focus. With that philosophy in mind, Riley will be offering four configurations for teams to select from, creating additional opportunities for teams at varying levels of investment to suit team budgets. Teams will be able to select from a complete turn-key race car, a complete unassembled car kit, an unassembled car less purchased parts, and a Riley Technologies Body In White fitted with a roll cage. "We are very excited to be named the exclusive builder of the new Chevrolet Camaro for KONI Challenge," said Riley Technologies Vice President Bill Riley. "We will offer the same level of support for our Camaro KONI Challenge competitors as we do our Daytona Prototype and Rolex GT Class customers. The KONI Challenge is tremendously competitive and we are really looking forward to seeing our customers hit the track starting at Daytona in January." "The KONI Challenge series is a great venue in which to demonstrate the performance attributes of the new Chevrolet Camaro," said Mark Kent, Director, GM Racing. "As the exclusive builder of the Camaro for competition in the Koni Challenge series, Riley Technologies will assure the racing version of the Camaro maintains the highest quality standards, is safe and affordable to purchase and operate. With Riley Technologies long history of developing and producing championship winning race cars, we are confident that the Chevrolet Camaro will be a championship contender in the KONI Challenge series." Riley Technologies has established an excellent record both on the track, and in the paddock. Riley products won both the Daytona Prototype and GT classes of the 2008 Rolex 24 At Daytona, adding to a remarkable record of over 50 victories in the category. A key ingredient in that success has been the high level of service and support that the manufacturer offers its wide customer and competitor base. "The addition of the Camaro to the KONI Challenge GS class has been anticipated since our first peek at the car, and it's sure to become an instant fan favorite," said Grand-Am Vice President of Competition David Spitzer. "We are glad to support GM Racing, and their selection of Riley as the supplier of both cars and kits. They have a track record of safe and successful race cars, and excellent customer service. Grand Am will work closely with GM Racing and Riley to ensure the Camaro is priced fairly, and with the dedication of Riley we expect to have Camaros on the grid for Daytona in January." The machine will be delivered ready to race for $130,000, with deposits currently being accepted. Riley will be the only approved manufacturer for the car in KONI competition. The Grand-Am KONI Challenge GS Class is the top KONI Challenge category. The 2008 KONI Challenge season has seen wins by the BMW M3, Porsche 911, and the Ford Mustang. In addition to racing in support of the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series, the KONI Challenge also holds events in conjunction with the IndyCar Series, NASCAR Canadian Tire Series, as well as staging stand-alone events.

I third that and you can buy it from Greg's new sponsor Micro Mark Oh, and spend the extra money on the "super fine" Micro-Mark Web Site

Those are nice. I bought the PE and thought the same thing. Thanks again for sharing.

You can hate him all you want I want to adopt him. His is a man after my own heart for detail. I just love his use of shading to bring out the details. Keep these pictures coming Izzy! I'm officially inspired again.

Brendan, That turned out very, very nice. I enjoyed following the build and your input on the flaws. Despite them, I will still build it soon. I'm too busy with summer stuff but the desk is calling me for September. Thanks again for sharing your space with me too. I will send you a personal message when I start my Spyder.

I may put a coat of Future down first and then shoot the clear.
-
That's turning out great and will make a great addition to your parking lot. Thanks for sharimg all the problem information. Glad see the clear isn't too hot to shoot over the decals too. Can't wait to see it over the wheels. Jim

Thanks for the updates and I'm kind of sorry you are the test subject on this project. Based on your photos I'm probably not going to use either red or yellow of the Scalefinishes paint. After attending the race and seeing it first hand. The trucks that do the shipping and the race cars are two different colors. Too bad since it sounds like great paint to work with. I will probably shoot the clear of theirs though. Hang in there and keep it fun. Jim

Here are a couple modifications that I have made to help the kit out. I added the small half circles to the front of the undertray. This was done by adding a piece of plastic and puttying the recessed area. I also didn't like the three piece bottom so I glued it all together and filled in the screw holes. Here I have scribed out the louvers on the front right fender. I wanted you to see the difference from the right side before I scribed it too. It does give it depth and didn't take that long. I also went to Mid Ohio on Saturday so there are a few reference pictures from the race at my Fotki site. RS Spyder at Mid Ohio 08 I did notice the top headlamp is a decal for the sprint races. So if you want to be picky... Thanks for letting me post here Brendan

I'm going to have to look at the pictures when I get home. Our office blocks them at the firewall. I just wanted to know if you were adding the two little curls at the front of the under tray. I also glued the two side tray pieces to the main tray and filled the screw holes. I did all that and have the tray painted and ready for my trip to Mid Ohio tomorrow. Hope to get Timo and Romain to autograph it. If you don't mind I could post the modifications I made to the tray here on this thread. Let me know. Anyway, I'm curious about the red color too. Keep us posted.

Hey Mike, Nice build. I have always liked that car too. I did one recently myself. Thanks for sharing,
-
Arrrrrrrgh! I found an error on the decal sheet. Minor, but still bugs me. The number 7 car ran with the words "Porsche Consulting" and the number 6 car had "Porsche Engineering" on the front carbon fiber deck. There's no "Porsche Consulting" decal. Guess which car I want to do...

I got mine yesterday. The amount of metal in this verse one of their F1 cars is small. It shouldn't be hard at all to get this one together. I think the only difficult part will be getting some good paint coverage between the front tire pontoons and the main body. I will be taking the bottom piece to Mid-Ohio in three weeks for a couple autographs.
