Is this good enough for you? Scracthbuilt: four link suspesion, drive shaft, oil pan, trans pan, Dana cover plate, valve covers, exhaust system, electric water pump, fuel control system and plumbing, All decals Be careful who you ask that question of

Sorry Harry but sometimes "more is more" and it turns out just fine. I know it's bigger than 1/25th but lets not disuade people from their overindulgences.

I believe that to be your own motives on what you are trying to get out of the build. I'm guilty of going overboard on everything but I just can't help myself. You have to ask yourself if you are building it to win a contest or just fulfill a personel need to add extra detail. Sometimes I build something just to learn a new trick. You have asked a very subjective question that has no right answer. It's still whatever trips your trigger. You're building for yourself. Remember that first and you will detail it how you see fit. Above all, just enjoy the process of the build.

The NNL is not a contest but a venue to show your latest creation and enjoy some bench racing bs with everyone. It was started as a sort of anti-contest. The only awards are voted on by the participants and are usually limited to "most popular" and "best theme" and sometimes a "best youth". The GSL type is a full blown contest with awards in all catatgories except "most popular" given based on a few judges selections. Hope that clears it up.

Where Do You Work And Paint?
JHDrew replied to Clay's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It's not much, but it works for me... -
I've been out of that closet for years. Here's a couple of mine... It's not MotoGP but ... I converted the stock VF750F into an AMA Super Bike road racer. Tamiya makes the best engineered models on the planet. Enjoy your build.

Very nice work. Hope to build mine this year with Harld Bradford's engine installed in there. Again, great job and very clean work.

This is the way to go. It's a product called Spaz Stix and I have used it with great results. It's usually found in the RC section of the hobby shops for some reason. Spaz Stix annodized gold Here's a picture of my gold annodized forks on a Yamaha MotoGP bike. Also the clutch plate top and all the heat marks on the exhaust system were done with Spaz Stix colors. You need to make sure to put down an acrylic barrier such as Future floor finish before shooting it through an air brush. Good luck,

Jay, I know it's hard to bring yourself to paint nice turned aluminum wheels, but you and I both know they are painted silver. Unless you want to make sure eveyone knows they are aluminum, they really should be painted. (Actually you can build any way you want I just couldn't resist the poke. ) It's all nice work so far. Keep it up. Here are my "painted" Sakatsu aluminum wheels. Keep us posted. I'm curious if the transkit is worth the money. Thanks,

Brendan, Dang, I'm going to have to wait until I get home to see your pictures. Our firewall here at work must hate the photobucket site so all I see are red x's. I even have trouble looking at some of my own pictures at Fotki.

Very Very Nice. I was wondering how good the Top Studio upgrade kits were. Glad to hear a good report on them. Always like to see MotoGP stuff too. Thanks for sharing.

Unless I'm reading wrong, I believe he put the sheet of decals in the bay window. It's an old trick for getting rid of the yellow. Be sure you are going to apply the decals soon after since they will go back to yellow again. This may work for already applied decals. Remember also you are bleaching the colors too so try to do this trick one time to a sheet.

Nice work. I love fun, clean builds. Looking forward to the finished car.

If you liked the kit, why the green face? And you need a signature too Mr or Ms ZIL.

I got to help him start it when he was here in Toledo with it last year for the Model Engineers Expo. WOW, what sound and great smell it produced.
-
Very nice work Brendan. One of my all time favorite cars and you did one proud. The best part is that you pride yourself on making sure it's a clean build. That's the first thing I look for in a model car. Congratulations So what's next?

I have also found that if you have a stuck enamel jar lid you can run very hot tap water over it for a few minutes. It will twist off much easier and there will be much less chance of damage to the lid. Clean those threads out like the others have described after you get it open.

You may want to try here Professor Motor

Boy Brendan, you're flying right along on this one. So far so good. Looks like you are close to putting the red on the body. Could you give some feedback on how well Harold's kit goes together? It's on my shelf to build some time in the near future. Thanks

Very nice in such a small scale. Also one of my favorite cars. You should be very proud of that one.
