Round 2 has a few new kits coming!!!
echoxrayniner replied to Mr mopar's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Same box art, same contents and updated decal sheet, they did the same treatment with the Dart a few years ago. Though honestly, if they keep it up and keep putting out the mid-seventies releases like the Pontiac Sprint, Firebird, etc. I'd be a happy camper, man. -

Speaking of Round 2 giving stuff a second whirl, some more releases: MPC '69 Charger is "back by popular demand", according to the Round 2 website and uh... Yeah, for as long as the Revell kit exists, I don't think anyone's jumping for joy. MPC '75 Datsun Pick Up, another re-release with a updated-yet-exact-remake-ala-Dodge-Dart. -

So I'll take it the Camaro SS 1LE is the full kit version of the snapper that's been around for a while now of the '17 SS 1LE, based on that $30+ price. They updated the decal sheet and fine tuned the mold a tad so it's crisper on the grilles and such on the '17 FIFTY Pace Car, I'm really happy that they listened and included for instance side marker light decals and the likes. Still though, a list of re-releases... -
I had 'em dry for 18 hours all in all before hitting 'em with the varnish, I think the issue then likely lies with the decal paper being of a cheap as sin seller on Amazon.co.uk D: Man, Larry, I would do so many bad things if it meant to be able to get a good resin cast or old Johan promo and have it look anywhere near as good as that one. Especially the Pontiac Grand Am, woof.

but but I'm young and live in the past! God I'm getting a showdown vibe here hah.

Tried the stripes, side markers and the logos so far - all fit quite nicely! Of course the issue with hand made decals instead of properly printing 'em is that the ink'll bleed even if you coat it with bonder spray/varnish so it's not perfect but it'll do. And in the fashion of half-assing it supremely, of course one giant problem with it being a NASCAR body is the fact that the wheel wells are way off to compensate for the gargantuan slicks, which is why I skipped on the curved part of the stripes for now. I think I'mma try and scan it again and see if I can hamfist a few more together - though for now I'm gonna try and get the tail section together, see how the tail lights look in decal form or whether I should still cut 'em open. Also for those who'd like to know just how easy it is: I literally scan the kit's body in using a printer with a scan function or a photocopier(with some green tape on the hard edges of it so the depth loss doesn't cut off the corners and blur 'em off) and match all the stuff up of what I made in Photoshop(which is just hand-crafting the side lights and stripes and carefully editing some badges down to vector-ish state so not all the detail is lost upon printing), edit if it's too big or too small and hey-presto. It's somewhere around a hour or so worth of effort to get something somewhat accurate, if you're like me and you tend to just kinda roll with it on face value. Granted, if there was more source info on the car available I'd go the whole mile and accurately measure it all off... But with that in mind and seeing as it's a NASCAR body, meh, half measures!

I've always loved the Chevelle Lagunas, especially the 1975 Laguna S3, so I figured I'mma try to find a middle ground between having to spend over a hundred bucks on kits just to gut 'em for a few pieces and the supposed-to-be Laguna stock car. So I'm thinking, instead of buying a '77 Monte Carlo kit just for the chassis and closer-ish interior(which for a Dutch person is sadly near 70 bucks with shipping included and this AMT/Model King Laguna already cost me 70), I'll keep it at "street stocker" with the NASCAR chassis, bare dash, though no roll cage and I do wanna end up putting two good ol' regular GM seats in there. Keeping the framed up engine bay and the likes, too. However, I atleast wanna try and get the exterior looking like a normal Laguna would've. Recently I've been having a bit of fun trying to scratch up some decal sheets for potential future builds and figuring out how to do nail the scale and it's been going pretty smoothly so I thought alright, let's try and craft a set and keep trying 'til I nail the looks of it. Still undecided on just slapping decal tail lights on there or trying to fashion some out of some clear plastic sheets given I am gonna use headlights(stolen from an AAR 'Cuda kit, which apparently fit like a charm!). Definitely going for an all white color though, for some reason I really dig it. Anyway, keepin' y'all updated as it comes along!

Hah born in the same year and got the exact same feelings! AMT was still doing pretty good annual kits in the 1990s, wonder what made 'em stop(well yeah, money of course). Like, the '95 Chevy S10 pick up kits - They were full detail and friggin' fantastic. Plus I imagine it wasnt exactly a kit on everyone's wishlist, yet they did it. Could be that GM still offered 'em cash for a showroom tie-in.
-
Yeah... It's the unfortunate truth for some of us, ain't it. I mean, more power to 'em for playing to what sells and even though I really don't care for the pre-1960s models, they do seem to make some super fancy kits. Just wish they'd go out their comfort zone some more often and take more gambles again, like the '83 Hurst/Olds and whatnot.
-
That was a fairly recent release of the GMC, would they re-package the thing again after just 3 or 4 years? I'm kinda hoping we're getting a different take on it, maybe a Jimmy or so.
-
God, man you guys are speaking my language with the Riviera... I'll even take it from AMT Ertl at this point, it might be bit less on the awesome side but it'll still be in our hands atleast. The amount of times I go "Oh man maybe this time" when I see a quarterly release list and get disappointed is getting too high. Though I suppose everyone's got a model wish going like that these days. Anyway, I'm seriously happy that there's gonna be a '85 Olds, though as one or two mentioned before, if this is the FE3-X/gold striped 442 version that was discussed around a few years back - Good grief I'mma be jumpin' for joy. And the '69 Charger Daytona's finally getting the Pro-Modeler revamp with the NASCAR as well as the stock option in one box? The previous releases since '99 had it either stock with the 440 or the NASCAR with the 426.

Hmm, the '77 MC snap kit it is then! It's kind of hard to come by though on eBay for less than 60 bucks with shipping included, while the '70 MC is literally all over the place thanks to the re-re-re-release. Though I'll have some patience with this build and try to score me a '77, I don't need total authenticity but if the fit's up there(atleast in the neighborhood, even if it requires knifin' and sawin') and it also happens to be semi correct, then hell yes. Thanks y'all!

So I got this Laguna stock car kit I wanna transform into a regular Laguna S3, already got a decent engine replacement and fashioned some tail lights from a plastic sheet while taking headlights from an AAR Cuda kit. Now I could just roll with the stock car chassis and raise the height a tad and stick with the stock car interior, just not adding the roll cage and a spare seat. My question is though, anybody have a idea of a similarly enough shaped interior bucket that I can manhandle in there? And perhaps if theres a decently enough chassis that fits under it. Was thinking of the AMT 1970 Monte Carlo perhaps for the chassis.
-
They are? Awh man, dang. I bought three AAR 'Cuda kits they put out in 1995 a month ago. It was based on the Monogram '71 Cuda for the most part with some parts blending from the '70 Challenger with the same T/A engine. Now if they made one based on the superb '70 Cuda casting, that would be friggin' epic.

'70 Buick Skylark GS(Updated: 6-5-'17)
echoxrayniner replied to echoxrayniner's topic in WIP: Model Cars
So I finished up the body for the most part, added some extra badges that weren't part of the actual GS back then like adding a Skylark emblem to the GS Stage 1 emblem on the tail and the 455 badge over the sidemarker lights, I always loved it on Camaros and Cutlasses so why not here, 'twas part of the PE parts anyhow. Speaking of which, dug out the hood vents and opened the grille and replaced them with the PE bits and, while the grille now sits far too deep cause the PE grille is too big on every side for the actual grille opening, I figured the hell with it and just... stuck with it. I painted all the sprues so far so I'm now contemplating whether or not to wire up the whole thing and add the hoses, ignition wires, throttle and such or just leave it for what it is. But at least, on a superficial level on the outside - it's gonna look the best there I reckon, got Firestone Wide Oval tire letters at the ready and trying to upgrade the tail end's detail and bringing out the tail lights and Buick emblem some more. I gotta admit, it helps that I built the GSX version ages ago and knowing exactly where it can go wrong, with for instance the tires sitting too deep inwards or the axles being very prone to bending while you gotta snap the backings onto 'em, that sort of stuff. But for now, I'll get to deciding whether the 455 V8 gets the whole detail package. -
Holy **** that's exactly my thoughts, the MPC kits of the 1970s weren't great, especially with their engines. The HEMI in the Dart kit for instance, Jesus Christ, what a pile of trash. But, yeah, you're spot on, who else made these kinds of kits? Pontiac Ventura, mid seventies Camaro & Firebird, '73-'80 Chevrolet Nova, Dodge Dart, Plymouth Volare, etc, just MPC D:

Yeah looking back, I could've easily turned it into a vinyl top with hardly any difficulty with how thick that mold line is. Judging by the '75 and '76 Dart MPC kits from those years, the mold lines werent present so I'm still thinking mistakes instead of planned vinyl roof lines. But yeah, the Slant-6 in that car was freakin' amazing and underutilized in the 1970s and 1980s, a V6 pulling 36MPG/16km/L average... in 1976? That's a rare one even today, heck some I4s barely make that. It's a shame the kit only comes with this weird not-V8, somekind of 340 with six cylinder manifolds. But seriously, Marks' decals made this kit go from meh to epic, the stripes are beautiful plus his seat decals make such a wonderful difference, I love it! Thanks! And hah, I just might go back and tape it over and make it a proper vinyl roof, who knows!

I don't really ever get around to making a OTW post cause I tend to blitz past the whole ordeal, but folks here inspired me to make a topic for a change and slow stuff down for a change. Anyhow! I got a '70 GSX kit from Monogram, and I built one of these before and absolutely loved it. But knowing there's a PE set for it and I kind of dig the more subdued look of a regular GS Stage 1 which still was largely the same option wise apparently with chin spoiler, rear wing and vented hood so I didn't have to scour the internet for a stock Skylark hood. Anyway, I coated the whole thing in a layer of black before going over it with bright blue metallic(both Motip automotive paint) so it has the nice dark undertone to it and then a couple of layers of good ol' German automotive 2K clear-coat, cause unfortunately around where I live it is still twice as cheap getting 400ml(13.5oz) cans of professional automotive paints than it is to get a single 100ml can of Tamiya TS. Cut open the hood vents already and currently in the process of ripping the grille out to replace it with the PE, though it seems the grille inlay is too big for the thing... Ah well, little hurdles.

Attempted to turn a '75 Dart Sport into a '76 bicentennial Dart Lite to... moderate success. This is one of those nearly nightmarish-to-build MPC kits where nothing fits the way I want to no matter what, so despite it all I'm just happy one thing came out somewhat decently which happened to be the interior, though that might be more thanks to Keith Marks' decal set. I actually hadn't even picked up on the gargantuan mold lines on the bottom side of the roof until after I did the fourth friggin' coat of paint so I kind of left it be. But what the hell, I love the weird subject matter of a celebratory car that is largely now only found in junkyards with merely the faded red of the stripes remaining.

God, man I love this build. The LSX engine, the wheels, the whole attitude around it. It's a sleeper gone brutal, it's friggin' perfect.

Missing Link Resin Parts
echoxrayniner replied to echoxrayniner's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Ahhh, thanks for the info! Figured given the state of the website. Yesterday I figured I'd give him a message over on his eBay and see if I get a response, seriously would love to get my mitts on that Super Bee conversion set >.< -
Question for y'all! I spotted a set of '71 Charger Super Bee conversion parts for a 20 bucks buuuuuut here's my issue and question; I heard of 'em via Motor City Resin Casters(Y'all rock by the way) and figured I'd check the website for their stock. Now the website hardly functions with dead links and any page past the main page kills the interactive buttons, but I digress. What I'm wondering is, are they still around? The PayPal stuff still functions and they still seem to have an operating eBay page, I wanted to ask them how much it would cost to ship to the Netherlands but the contact option is busted(though the email luckily was still visible in the URL), I havent heard anything back from the emails so I'm really curious whether or not the store still operates 'cuz man I'd love me them Super Bee parts.

While I'm awaiting the '10 Camaro kit from Revell to transform into the '11 45th Anniversary(quite simple luckily, the stripes are easily made in Photoshop, just need some decal paper), I figured I'd get some line-up shots of all the Camaro anniversary editions that were released over the years since I just completed the 1997 one. And some other builds I recently finished up! Mah preciousessss. And a bonus, some Malaise Era rust-buckets. The MPC Omni kit was pretty nifty but boy did it fit horribly. Kinda like the real car, eh?
