'74 or '75 Camaro black stripe decals
echoxrayniner replied to echoxrayniner's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Thanks! I popped him a e-mail, now just crossing my fingers he'll answer it. -
I bought a mid seventies AMT Camaro kit that I've wanted for so dang long, turns out the decals in the kit aged about as well as milk. So I've looked for well over a week now and I found two people(through this forum as well as Google) that printed copies of the '74 Camaro Z/28 stripes and simple black stripes with the minor outline that were meant to fit the '74 or '75 Camaro kits from AMT and MPC. Now the issue I ran across was that these aftermarket folks either quit their business some years ago or just don't ship internationally to avoid the hassle. Anyone aware of someone who still has these available for sale and doesn't mind shipping to Europe if they're located in the States?

'84 Oldsmobile Cutlass LSX442(Updated 1-24-'16)
echoxrayniner replied to echoxrayniner's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Scored them from eBay for $3,50(shipping not included) for a set of two mats, made by Plastic Dreams. They got nearly any US car brand coming to think of it. And that ain't a half bad plan, I'm over in the Netherlands so usually shipping's the thing that wraps the noose around most of what I want(for instance, 12 bucks shipping on that 3,50 item, yay!), but there might be some local hobby shops that carry that, so thanks! -
I wanted to do a regular 442 from '85 with the MCG PE set, but then I stumbled upon Clearly Scale's Olds resin parts so I went with the LSX-454 inspired engine block and totally changed my idea to sort of a sleeper '84 Cutlass. Figured an all black(perhaps without any chrome detailing, not certain yet) with also an all black interior along with the '84 grille that hides a gargantuan GM block under the hood. Kind of regret not buying the flat hood now, but oh well! Added some floor mats, couldn't get a decent little bag of interior flocking material around here unless I wanna pay 10 bucks plus for a 4 week wait so I stuck with regular old matte black paint. Speaking of which, handpainting the thing cause I'm too lazy/poor to afford a reasonable airbrush and I personally find the painting process super relaxing, even if it comes at the cost of it looking less great. Some day! (Edit: should probably say, first time working with resin parts!)

Man, each model you complete is better than the last, serious good job!

Only two times I've ever come across some serious tire rot was with two AMT kits from '91 and '86 respectively(Heritage Ed. Camaro and El Camino SS), which made 'em look like adorable little fuzzy white donuts that made the entire kit reek of dead dog. Go figure, these were new still in sealed plastic as well as the little baggies. I also think it's probably just some bad batches, if not usually just high humidity and such that allows for the plasticizer/rubberizer agent to seep through after opening it or building it but man, once they go rank, they go rank. Never ran into the drying up and splitting in half issue myself luckily, though like the others said, I reckon shoving some soft stuff in there that helps carry the weight seems might lengthen the life span a fair bit.

One thing I found a bit odd was that there's just stripes and sponsorship decals, figured with the updated decal sheet we'd get (ala '70 Chevelle re-release treatment) some dials and a 396 emblem for the aircleaner for some extra detail, but nope.

I gotta admit, being European and fairly young, I haven't got a clue on how tough it is and/or used to be on say AMT Ertl or Monogram to invest in tools, producing and getting out the door with little marketing other than whatever magazines I stumble upon, so these reads are really enlightening and fascinating!

Round 2 January 2017 Product Spotlight
echoxrayniner replied to MrObsessive's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I'm really curious to see myself too, though there's always the chance it's going to be the same kit. The '68 Charger, '69 Camaro, '08 Viper SRT10 ACR and such that started off in the States got a very similar release here with the minor differences being paint codes, more in-depth manual, EU plates for decals and so on. I wouldn't be surprised if it's yet again the S&H Torino, or at the very least a regular Gran Torino. -

Same over here in the Netherlands, near the town I grew up around. Of all things, it was a Opel Ascona... But it made it look rather nifty with the S&H colors. -
Round 2 January 2017 Product Spotlight
echoxrayniner replied to MrObsessive's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Man, with all the re-releases of the forty year old kits, I'm still pining so hard for a re-release of the AMT '74-'77 Camaro or even the MPC version... But I get the sensation they're too, I suppose 'normal' to mark a re-release. MPC kits always had these superbly odd extras that makes them pop(though don't get me wrong, I do love me that Pacer, Pinto, Volare and so on!) and AMT seems to put a lot of money in the rods, dragsters and such re-release pool. Maybe I'm just getting jaded >.> Ah well I'm just happy they re-did the '68 Soapbox Derby El Camino SS the other month, still working on that baby. -
Totally agreed, hell I'm still contemplating buying a new one already after having gone through the trouble(or absolute hell rather) of already making one, now I know that if I just make it a pretty curbside and avoid even putting a engine in there I may just be able of getting the front wheels to sit the way they should and the shaker/scoop may just sit... straight-ish. Though MPC's not really known for retooling old kits, are they? D:

Building a '70 Chevrolet El Camino?

'fraid not, well I do have one that could do it but she's not up to the hassle time-wise so nope. -
Building a '70 Chevrolet El Camino?
echoxrayniner replied to echoxrayniner's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
God I'd love to do it, the main reason I'm gonna do a '70 is largely due to the fact that I still like it enough to be worth it(not a giant fan of the '67 and earlier), but getting my hands on a '72 Chevelle kit proved to be INSANELY costly, I mean think into the 150 dollar range for a new one and up to 70 for a used one, and that's not even counting the 30 dollar shipping. I do love me a '71 and '72. Hell even the '69 is nigh impossible for me to find, eBay automatically filters out sellers that won't ship outside the States so that doesn't help either D: -
Building a '70 Chevrolet El Camino?
echoxrayniner replied to echoxrayniner's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
If you could do that, Snake, I'd love ya' for eternity. I only got the '70 Chevelle(which is already build, so can't quite measure the fenders), Monte Carlo and the body, chassis and tail of the '69 El Camino so far. Also, the new '68 El Camino comes with a extra set of wheels? Eeeexcellent. Though that being said, if the Revell '70 SnapTite kit actually turns out to be a better fit, I can get my hands on that one without too much of a hassle. That and/or the Revell '70 Baldwin Motion kit if removing the hood is too big of a hurdle, though the box claims it's a 1/25 kit though that's gotta be wrong, right? -
Building a '70 Chevrolet El Camino?
echoxrayniner replied to echoxrayniner's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Ahh this is the sort of stuff I knew I could expect from y'all here, thanks! <3 I'd give resin bodies consideration but usually I can't, sadly. They're either too expensive on which I gotta chalk up a giant sum of import costs cause I'm over in Europe and most of the better resin casts hail from the States so I think I have to make due with largely conversion parts from regular kits as one resin body would cost me around the same as three unopened kits. Though so far what I got lying around and coming at me is; a 396ci V8 from a '69 Camaro Revell kit, the AMT '70 Jack Reacher Chevelle kit(largely for the stripes, cowl hood and the front), still undecided on just buying the already existing '68 El Camino or wait 'til December and buy the newer one that comes with the soapbox derby thingy, and found a junkyard(though not all too shabby, the body, chassis and tailgate all seem to be in decent shape, plus it has the tailgate with the reverse lights on it I believe) '69 El Camino kit on eBay. Luckily got a half build '70 Monte Carlo sitting in its little box(gave up on it due to time constraints back then and just... forgot) from which I can steal the bumper. The only thing I wish I had spares of were some Torq-Thrust wheels but ah well, can just use the Mags from the Chevelle. But yeah, 100% certain that it's gonna be a lot of sanding, a lot of epoxy and a lot of wrenching and fitting around to try and get it together. I'm just glad it might just be possible, even if it may take me a lifetime. Lord knows an actual kit of the 1970 year won't see the light of day before I get done frankensteining Chevelles and El Caminos up into one. Good thing the holidays are coming up. -
So I've come to the sad realization that finding a '70 El Camino is just nearly impossible, hell I can't even find evidence that there ever was one to start with. So I was wondering, there's the '68 and '69 El Camino kits from AMT Ertl, does anyone know if it's remotely possible to build a '70 El Camino out of a era appropriate grab-bag parts collection and combining the front end of the '70 Chevelle SS kit(AMT's Jack Reacher kit) in combination with the cabin/tail of a '68 El Camino kit? I'm wondering if the dimensions of the tools are similar enough for the fenders to meet up correctly with the rest of the model. I mean, I'm definitely willing to go deep time and cash wise(after all, gonna need to buy 2 kits and try and transplant a higher quality engine model from possibly a Revell kit), seems like a fun little project. Just very curious if it's even possible with the molds, or if someone else on this forum's attempted it before and give me some tips. Build a start to finish Camaro line-up of every generation, figured it would be nice to get all the El Camino's from the sixties through the eighties too.

There's always something oh so pretty about gray or silver tinted cars with black wheels, hell of a great job on the Mustang dude!

Thanks y'all!

A while back when I watched Sons of Anarchy(which has a hell of a car line up for a bike show), the series' final episode has a car chase scene with the getaway car being a gold/champagne GTO with what I can only describe Chip Foose inspired wheels and man I loved the way that thing looked. So I bought the Revell Royal '66 GTO kit if not only for the second set of wheels that come with it that aren't the stock steelies and a set of photo etched parts. Really, really wanted to paint the vinyl roof on there but I figured texturing it would be some rough times. Also it ain't summer anymore so can't do nice outdoorsy pictures D: And if you're wondering why the paint looks so streaky, I hand painted it even though it being metallic enamel paint cause well... I like hand painting!

I rarely ever build Mustangs, though man I love 'em and still got a unbuild '99, '95 and two '70s sitting in their boxes awaiting building. But speaking of giant wheels;

You read my mind, with all the really well tooled 1/24 aftermarket customizing options like rims, bodykits, etc. there's a world of variety just waiting to be linked. I gotta admit, I'm stocked about a newer release of the Corvette and especially the '66 Suburban but man, the RX7 is gonna be fantastic to see what folks end up doing with it.
-
Thanks! ^-^ Also, coming to think of it as someone might know around here, those Jo-Han kits of various Oldsmobiles, were they any good?
-
Yup, never airbrushed a single model in my life, attempted once but the compressor my old man got me gave up living so quickly abandoned the idea. The only exclusion is I used a Testors spraycan to make a model metallic blue cause a painting attempt at it failed miserably, but of the +/- 70 models I got, only one's sprayed. And thanks! <3
