Tamiya McLaren orange paint
Racersonly replied to Racersonly's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Excellent! Thank you, gentlemen. -
I kind of remember reading something on this forum that Tamiya made a McLaren orange spray paint (papaya) for it’s McLaren M8A kit. I’m having trouble locating that thread. Can anyone help me with a Tamiya number for it?

What’s with......

Snakester.......I’m not on this site but maybe once a week. Maybe less. -
the advertisements blocking out the thread titles?

The late 60s USAC stockers was really cool stuff. Factory supported Plymouths, Fords and Dodges. One driver not included in this video would be the legendary Dick Trickle. USAC Stock Car Division Rookie of the Year. I thought his 67 Fairlane was the coolest car out there. His independent Ford would run wheel to wheel with the factory cars piloted by drivers like AJ Foyt. Those were the good ole days indeed.

Nice work, Peter. The 1:20 Tamiya and Ebbro F1 kits have turned out to be the best of my builds.

Many years ago, I did a chassis alignment on that very Cobra.

I’m a big fan of the old USAC stock car series. I attended several at the Milwaukee Mile and Kaukauna. It’s always interesting to see them modeled so well. I’ve built a few myself. A Jack Bowser Torino. A Don White and Butch Hartman Dodge. I have a Dick Trickle Fairlane and Norm Nelson Road Runner in the works, but I’m in need of decals to finish them up. Might anyone have any suggestions as to where I might get them?

Dale, That's the kit I built 50 years ago. (My John Surtees above) I now remember that it was gold plated.

I believe it was an AMT. Pretty basic, simple kit with a one piece body. I think it was available as a slot car body too. I'd love to get my hands on a set of Bignotti decals. I'll try to locate that 2nd Indy Ford engine for you.

Back in their day, the T70 was very successful. Lola sold a bunch of them and they were raced by many. Dan Gurney, Mark Donohue, George Fullmer, Peter Revson, Lothar Motschenbacher, Charlie Parsons, Skip Scott, Parnelli Jones, Mario Andretti, John Surtees and a few others I no doubt overlooked. There are many choices for a modeler, should he be able to locate decal sets. This is my John Surtees. (My personal favorite.) I built this kit 50+ years ago and re did it recently. I believe it was an AMT kit.

Bruce, FYI......the Bignotti Lola is a very similar shade of blue as the Mecum car. If you were to decide to do a Bignotti, and have your club friend make you some decals, I'd be interested in a set too. The cars in these photos are to give you an idea of the color and graphics. I'm thinking one must be a replica, as it doesn't have the Ford Indy engine. The Indy Ford has the "snake pit" exhaust header that sits on top of the engine and the tailpipes sit on the top of the coach work. I have one that I didn't use in my Gurney Eagle. (I actually have two, wanna work out a trade?) I thought I might use that in my T70.

I still think that the Lola T70 is one of the coolest race cars ever made. I have an IMC kit on the shelf waiting for me to get around to it. I'd like to build a Bignotti version that was raced by Parnelli Jones and later by Mario Andretti with the Indy Ford four cam engine, but, I'm not aware of any decal sets for it. (If anyone can steer me to a set, please do.) I saw Mario in the car at Road America back in the day. I fell in love with the unique sound of that engine.

I've got one of these kits on the shelf, waiting for me to get around to it. I always loved the Team Surtees colors. It inspired my racing colors. Eager to see the finished product. -
Andy, PM sent. Tim, Thanks for the tip. You guys rock!
-
Yikes! My attempt at decaling failed miserably. They simply fell apart. What a disappointment. I haven't destroyed the whole set just yet. Can anybody direct me to a decal guy that might be able to help me recover my kit?
-
Many years ago, already, I did a wheel alignment on the actual Feinstein Cobra for a vintage event at Road America. I had no idea that it was the Essex Wire car too. Lots-o-history there.

Reliable Resin?
Racersonly replied to Racersonly's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The amount was $68.00 and the transaction happened on May 22 via PayPal........A message was sent to him through the PayPal system and I requested my money back. Let's see what happens now. I'll keep you all updated. -
Reliable Resin?
Racersonly replied to Racersonly's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yikes.......I was afraid I might get this reaction. I believe I payed via PayPal. I think they have ways to deal with things like this. Then there's always the State Bureau of Consumer Protection. Maybe the State of Wisconsin will motivate the guy. -
Or should I say, "Unreliable" Resin...... I ordered a resin body kit from Don last April or May. I was told six weeks for delivery after payment. An email to the guy was sent out 4-5 weeks ago and at that time, he responded that he took up a real job because he couldn't live on his resin business. He also said that he had some time and a two week window to catch up on his orders. Fair enough, but, I haven't heard anything back from the guy since and he hadn't responded to my numerous email messages. There's an address but no phone number on his web site. There's got to be someone out there who has some experience dealing with him.......Did I just get screwed for $60?
