  1. I ran out of the Testers flat clear, so I bought Tamaya. When I spray the tires over the decals, it seems to be too hot or something. It looks like the decal is peeling off, and ruins the effect. Does anyone have that same problem? Any ideas or suggestions?
  2. Monogram kit, 30 year old kit decals looked pretty good, but they are thin and I think every decal tore while trying to set it. Testors bottle paint airbrushed for the blue and the dark blue. Had some extra 9 hole wheels, which is what this car used in most of the pictures i could find of it.
  3. I had started the '83 car a couple years ago, and had it mostly done, but it needed a hood. this build started as a pile of parts from a garage sale several years ago, and had everything but the hood. After watching Ebay for a while with no luck, I finally just broke down and bought a new Salvinos JR kit just to get a Buick hood for it. Painted and decaled the hood and completed the build. Finished the '88 car a month ago. I love the way it turned out. The seat belts took forever, and were pretty frustrating to make. This was the first time I plumbed the oil pump and oil cooler. Powerslide decals for both.
  4. I ordered a few pairs of those decals, thanks for the link, Mike! We will see how they work.
  5. I found a few races from 1972 on youtube, and I was able to find the back of the car during some pitstop footage. That will get the back shored up. I only have a few more decals to add. Does anyone have any good tips for replicating a spoiler? I think I will probably use sheet styrene, but I've seen some people use aluminum? A soda can or something? I wonder if I can get a smooth enough cut on a pop can or not...
  6. Does anyone have any suggestions for better whitewall tires? These Revell tires are nice, but the whitewall decal just crumbles off. Would Micro-sol work on the rubber? I've also tried painting a set with white paint, but it doesn't ever dry and smears. Is there an aftermarket set that is the right size?
  7. Ended up wearing through the paint in a few spots, and decided to put it back in the box. It sat for a while, but now its back. Repainted it, and cleared it, polished it smooth. looks good again, and I want to wrap it up soon. Its a bit lighter in person than it looks in these photos, maybe I'll take some outside when it warms up.
  8. I used the Polar Lights chassis and the MPC body. PPP tires, I still need to weather them. Chassis is almost done. Need to finish the dash.
  9. https://www.motortrend.com/news/woods-brothers-1971-mercury-montego-nascar/ Yeah, Petty and a bunch of others. Hot Rod referred to it as a Montego, and I think there is something about the difference in grills? Not sure. Either way, I used this article for most of the reference, but this version has the later graphics. the Purolator graphics on the side are the later version, the one I'm trying to replicate is the earlier. I'm sure its close, but there are several options on the decal sheet.
  10. Trying to get this one completed. I am building the earlier version, but I can't find a picture of the rear of the car. Anyone know what the back of this car looked like?
  11. This is one of my favorite Army trucks, I am glad to see someone replicating one.
  12. Body painted, sanded and polished on the Buick. Decal work started. This one is getting close, looking forward to finishing it up soon.
  13. You did a very nice job with this. You really nailed the look of the truck, in my opinion. I also own a '49 2R5 and would love to see a kit or resin of one some day.
  14. Any chance you are gonna make more of these? If so, I would like to buy one.
  15. Finished up the Hardee's Lumina.
  16. My first car was an 87 Turbo Coupe. Gunmetal Gray with a blue and gray interior. Automatic trans, which went out at 163k. It was a fun car though. Nice paint job, I'm enjoying the build.
  17. Good to know, thanks!
  18. JC, you build some of the most interesting cars. I've never even seen many of the kits you build. They are always a fun follow!
  19. Wow, those look great! I assume that's the AMT thunderbird chassis? Is it stretched, or stock wheelbase? Where do I get one of these?
  20. Russ Wheeler car is almost finished. I mixed up some blue and white to try and match the decals. It looked good on the paper, but dried a bit darker over the orange. You have to be pretty close to tell though. This wasn't ever going to be a serious build, so I'm not too bothered by it. A few more decals and it should be done.
  21. John, I might have a bottle of that in my stash. I'll take a look. I also found part #55 on one of the sprues, Dave. Where does it go on the car? More progress:
  22. Nice! Love those old trucks.
