The famous Z06 oil tank and finished interiors *PICS*
ismaelg replied to ismaelg's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thanks guys! Bill, I made my own "jumping" decal on my computer. I took a picture of one straight on and reduced it for printing. Thanks, -
Hello, Here is my version of the Z06 oil tank. Sorry for the dark picture. I took dozens of pics but the light was not good. I'll take better pics later. Note I also added the jump starting instructions sticker. ...and here are the finished interiors: Interiors are still dusty from the flocking, so I need to wipe them clean before final assembly. Now it's on to the body. I don't need a dehydrator. It took me more than 2 weeks to get to this point so the paint should be dry enough for polishing. Thanks,
-
Tom, That's a GREAT color! Looking forward to see more on this. Thanks,
-
Chris, That is coming along very nice. I LOVE that color. Thanks,
-
Jeff, I applied the kit's gauge decal to the clear part, then cut a piece of thin clear plastic and put it over it as the lens. As for the color, I'm very happy, since the 1:1 is not really black, but a very dark gray. I airbrushed the Humbrol flat dark gray mixed with a few drops of Testors black. I usually use Euro 1 Gray from the Model Master line but since I didn't find it I mixed it. Thanks,

Hello, I haven't had much modeling time recently, but the Z06 is slowly progressing. The interiors are about 80% done. Lots of little things still pending but slowly getting there. Thanks,
-
What can I say? BRAVO! I knew you were going to pull it off before mine. It looks GREAT! Thanks,

Little setback on the wheel choice for the F430

Little setback on the wheel choice for the F430
ismaelg replied to ismaelg's topic in WIP: Model Cars
What do you think of these for the F430? Too blingy? I would de-chrome and refinish them in aluminum or silver. I would use the kit's tires or something else "meatier" than those rubber bands. Thanks, -
Hello, I got today the wheels I bought on the 'bay to China (Bless the internet). But as Bob Downie warned before, they are small for the F430. These are about 17 scale inches. They may work in the 308, but the F430 looks like a wheelbarrow with them Somehow, I don't like the wheels in the Revell kit. I'll keep looking. Any suggestion? Yes, I have a wheel fetish Thanks,
-
Einstein said everything was relative. Your "minor diversion" already looks better than our "heavy duty" projects... Looking great. I agree with you. They are meant to be built... Thanks,

The BIG CAR CHALLENGE!!!
ismaelg replied to Ron Hamilton's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Would this count? A model of this would be my closest to a big american full size premium car... Just kidding -
That looks bad... In a good way Seriously, that's looking VERY nice. I love to see more Z06s been built... Thanks,
-
Not Bob but...... Revell has the F430 available with engine detail. However, Fujimi has several versions: the regular F430, the F430 with "Optional Parts" and the Challenge version. they both made a convertible version as well. I have the Revell coupe. I'll work on it soon. Thanks,
-
Bob, Looking good! I was not aware of that model until you mentioned it last week. I have pictures of a local white Modena Stradale with red interiors, no racing markings. That car looks AWESOME....... I have the Revell F430 and I'd like to build it next. Thanks,
-
Looking very good Bob.... I bought a Viper just to use the tires but I think I can use the seats in a club racer version of the Z06 I plan. The seats are similar to the ones you used.... BTW, Haven't heard from Brian in a long time. Say hello from me when you see him..... Thanks,
-
Reading your post again, your approach will result in a much more accurate tank than mine. I only did the top part. Of course the offer stands if you want me to send you one of mine... Thanks,
-
Lyle, I can't let a fellow Corvette modeler suffer. Email me your address and I'll send you the first tank I did. I already did another one I like a bit better.... Thanks,
-
Hello, Yes, I know I'm boring you with my updates and this is not the cup of tea of many, but here we go again... The body is polished. Lots of detailing still pending. Afterwards, maybe a little rub and waxing. The camera had a hard time getting it right. It look so much better in person. It is not as dark as in the pictures and the metallic particles glow nicely. The white stripes shine very nice as well. By the way, this goes in there: Again, not the right color in the picture. When the model gets done I'll take better pictures.

Excellent craftsmanship!

Looks like this is THE place now huh.....

What? You didn't remember me? I'm offended!!!! I'm leaving! Sorry, couldn't resist I know these gentlemen are on a separate league... Welcome aboard Len! Thanks, -
Bob, What's the rush? Don't you love the smell of paint for a few days? That is looking very good. I'm a very slow builder and you are a very fast one so probably you'll finish first. That'll be another great build from you. Are those wheels Fujimi BBS RG346 by any chance? I ordered them for my F430. Thanks,
-
Shhhh... The Beast is sleeping (Z06 progess) *PIC*
ismaelg replied to ismaelg's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Bob, Welcome to the club I had to touch up many spots many times, after the first color coats. I don't know if it has anything to do with the softer plastic, but they didn't show during primer. As you said, mold lines, tool marks etc. Something you wouldn't expect from a new mold. So yes, there is a lot of prep work before and after initial color coats for those of us obsessed with perfection. Thanks, -
Hello again, The final coat of clear has been airbrushed. I took this pic this morning, about 48 hrs after the last coat was applied. Now, the body will be put aside for a nap. Lacquer can be polished as soon as 2 or 3 days, but I like to wait at least one full week before polishing. Anyways, I still need to work on the interiors and other stuff, so most likely it will be more than a week before I start polishing it. I like how it is progressing so far. If I don't screw it up, (like I usually do), this could be my best yellow paint job to date. Thanks, Ismael

Hello, The 2006 yellow Z06 is sleeping now for a week until the clear dries. I'll post pics of that one later on. In the meantime, I started polishing the 2004 C5 Z06 Grand Sport. Just to get an idea on how it will look, I polished just the hood. The white stripe shines beyond my expectations. It looks great. This is my first 2 tone paint job. The stripes (all of them) are painted over the LeMans blue paint. Now, on to the rest of the body.... Thanks,
