  1. You're welcome! I too thought there was an engine until I saw the parts in closer detail. I'm a little bummed but I'm still going to pre-order it
  2. That's an image of the real car. I posted images of the completed model above, but still a great pic of a cool looking car Can't wait to build it.
  3. Here are some higher res and additional pics (right click the image and choose "Open image in new tab") https://tamiyablog.com/2019/01/tamiya-24349-toyota-gazoo-racing-ts50-hybrid-nuremberg-toy-fair-2019/ Unfortunately it will only have gearbox detail as that will be partially visible through the closed rear bodywork, and also serves the purpose of anchoring the rear wishbones and driveshafts. Sadly there is no engine to speak of. If there were, you would see radiators, turbos, exhaust pipes and an actual engine block on the sprues. Also, there are no images of the TS050 engine bay anywhere to be found so it's obvious Toyota would rather not share that kind of sensitive information, despite Audi and Porsche ending their Prototype programs. Here's a breakdown: #1 is the monocoque/cockpit (Electrical boxes/switches on the right), terminating with the simplest representation of an engine block I've ever seen with an attachment point for the gearbox at the end. This is very similar to how the Tamiya SF70H gearbox attached to its monocoque. #2 is the top of the gearbox with the upper wishbones. #3 is the gearbox itself with mounting points for the suspension/driveshafts, plus the rear crash structure. Credit goes to Scaleautofactory for the image.
  4. Are there any photos from this years show? I wasn't able to attend.
  5. Thanks! Nope, this is curbside. The teams are so secretive these days that there's no point, plus the power units are extraordinarily compact and are normally covered with heat shielding and panels so it wouldn't really look like an engine.
  6. Thanks all!
  7. I finished this a few weeks ago but recently took pics with my DSLR. Painted with Gravity Colors Rosso SF70H and cleared with Splash Paints 2K clear. I also used the Studio 27 carbon fiber decals. Overall this was a very enjoyable build.
  8. Not sure if the poster who hinted at the NSU TT was being sarcastic or not, but that is indeed a very obscure and random car. I think something that will cater to their Japanese base is more likely, like the TS050 or Supra, or even a new Ferrari kit.
  9. Recently completed this for a client. Revell Corvette C7.R with the addition of custom printed decals specific to the #3 car as per the 2016 24 Hours of Daytona. Painted with Gravity Colors Corvette Yellow and Splash Paints 2K clear. Also added Scale Motorsport carbon fiber decals on the air intakes inside the engine bay. Enjoy!
  10. For me, space is limited for displaying built models. I am usually working on commission builds so those will be shipped/delivered to clients, or I will list some of my builds on eBay. I do keep some builds for myself, specifically cars that I am passionate about and invest a lot of time in. I have three Tamiya F1 cars in a Tamiya 1/12 display case, and one F1 car displayed on my desk in a Pioneer stackable 1/18 display case.
  11. Very well said! Yes this car was boxy and not aesthetically pleasing, but it was definitely a monster. Also, the inline 5 cylinder turbo sounds amazing.
  12. Thank you! I'll give that a try.
  13. Thanks! Oh yeah, I had to use a lot of CA glue to get my last body to fit properly over the chassis. Would it help if I cut the windows in to separate pieces so there is more clearance for the roll cage? I'm considering doing that.
  14. The decals have been applied. I'm missing the driver name decals as well as the #3 decal that goes under the right rear tail light. I also hand painted the brake vents. The A pillars and bottom of the windshield (Not sure what that part is called...) will be masked off and sprayed semi gloss black after the final coat of clear. I hope to have the missing decals applied so I can apply the final coat of clear! The chassis was pretty basic and straight forward, but it's complete. Everything is molded in white so lots of semi gloss black was used! Everything here is box stock. The window glass on the model is tinted so not a lot will be seen, but I ended up detailing the dash just a little. The most prominent feature in the engine bay are the air intakes, which unfortunately cover the engine itself. I wanted to detail this as much as possible, so I made own carbon fiber templates with masking tape and Scale Motorsport carbon fiber decals. I sprayed a layer of clear over them, then masked off the section that appears to be rubber hose and sprayed with Testors dullcoat. They were then topped off with bare metal foil. I also detailed the rear fan and components that appear at the rear of the car.
  15. Currently working on the Revell Corvette C7.R for a client. I had already built the #4 car for him and he recently expressed interested in having me build the #3 car. I was able to find a decal vendor to print up the #3 decals, driver name decals, and white windscreen banner that are unique to the #3 car. All other markings are identical. I've already made a lot of progress, but rather than overwhelm readers I'll post my progress in parts. I started by sanding down the body, followed by a coat of Tamiya fine surface primer. That was sanded down, and then sprayed with Gravity Colors Corvette Racing Yellow, masked, then sprayed with Tamiya X18. I then applied a coat of 2K clear to give the decals a smooth surface to adhere to. Next post will show the decals, as well as the chassis/engine progress.
  16. Looks good so far! I've been trying to find this kit but it's become incredibly rare these days. Looking forward to seeing additional progress.
  17. Thanks! I used my phone which isn't that great, but I edited the exposure a little bit.
  18. Finally complete! This is my first NASCAR build since I was new to this hobby, about 15 years ago. I used the Revell Danica Fusion kit. Painted with Tamiya TS-26, Gravity Colors SF70H red, and 2K clear. Powerslide decals. I lowered the ride height, added a splitter with sheet styrene, cut down the passenger window, and cut down the spoiler and widened it using sheet styrene. Everything else is pretty much box stock. Enjoy!
  19. Thank you - I will keep this in mind for my next build.
  20. Thanks! I used Tamiya XF-16 acrylic with a #00 brush and a steady hand.
  21. Started working on the tires. I've never used a flat clear on tire sidewalls before, but I'm happy with how these came out. My bottle of flat clear is 20+ years old but surprisingly it still sprayed beautifully! I managed to smudge the sidewall of the tire on the bottom right, but a few more coats corrected that. I realize the red line on the rims is too thick and slightly out of place. For my next NASCAR build I'll probably buy the additional tire decal sheet from mikesdecals.com.
  22. Beautiful work. Do you usually clear over the decals?
  23. Thanks! I've built maybe 100 kits over the last 15 years (mainly 1/20 scale F1 and 1/24 scale race cars/sports cars), just no NASCAR kits. With that being said, the skills I've acquired carry over seamlessly to this type of kit.
  24. This is my first NASCAR build in more than 15 years. I last built one when I was new to the hobby and needless to say, it wasn't my best effort. While I'm not a NASCAR builder, I decided to give one of these a try after seeing the Danica glue kit for $9.99 at my local Ollie's. I was also enticed by the various liveries and aftermarket decals that are available for these kits. A lot of progress has been made so I'll try and list all the major work I've done up to this point. For the body I used Tamiya white primer, TS-26 white, and Gravity Colors SF70H Ferrari F1 red, followed by a coat of 2K clear from Splash Paints. I used Powerslide decals. I have to admit they're some of the best decals I've ever used, though that's no surprise as they're printed by Cartograf. For the chassis I filled and sanded down the injector pin marks and mold lines, and sprayed it with a mix of Tamiya flat white with sky grey at roughly a 4:1 ratio. For the engine/exhaust and other parts I used various Alclad metallics and Tamiya TS-29 through my airbrush. With the assistance of Pheeden's Garage's Youtube channel, I cut down the rear springs and shocks, and also cut the ends off the axle to lower the ride height and bring the wheels in. I also cut off the mounting points for the brake discs on the front spindles to bring the wheels in, and plan to adjust the spindles so the front sits a bit lower. I also made a splitter with polystyrene sheet (not attached yet), and plan to add the missing roll bars and possibly the fuel lines as well. I'm also toying with the idea of making a new rear spoiler as the kit comes with the Super Speedway version. I'll probably clear over the decals, then paint the black trim on the roof rails and the front window net, which I know is not accurate for the Sonoma car. I also need to assemble the wheels/tires. I hope to have this completed by the weekend. Apologies for the inconsistent white balance in my photos. I blame my cheap Smartphone... Enjoy!
