I do want to add wood to the bed sides, there are tail lights on it but I think I will update them and some other small details! I also have been thinking about painting, should I go silver or same color as the body? What do you guys think? -

This measures 4 3/4" long which is roughly 10 foot. Width is 3 1/2" looks great sitting on the truck! -
I asked in another thread about a 1 ton dump bed in resin being produced by anyone, I needed one for a club project. In that thread Steve mentioned that there was a dump bed on ebay, however this was made of styrene and being sold by bcs-trading. I found it and it looked ok and he had 100% feedback so I put out the $34.99 with free shipping and got one using the "buy-it-now" option. I think all his items are "buy-it-now" as he runs an ebay store with the same name. Anyway it arrived yesterday and I am really happy with it! It needs some minor cleanup work and it can always be detailed more to suit your tastes. It took around a week to arrive, the tailgate works as well as having the lift mechanism underneath and working also! Everything is styrene and I am very pleased with the quality! Check out his store as he has a couple other cool things such as a couple of car haulers, a couple utility boxes, a couple towing setups, a flat bed, an English Wheel for dioramas and more. Prices are not that bad!

Mike, I will measure it tonight and let you know. I didnt really think about what length it was! It looks "right" to me for something you would see as a landscape truck or something. Overall he does a really nice job and has some other cool stuff! -

Hey guys I wanted to post some pics of the dump bed I got in the mail yesterday from bcs-trading. Steve mentioned in this thread that he saw one on ebay from bcs-trading, i looked into it and it looked pretty nice so I went ahead and bought it for $34.99 with free shipping! I am really pleased with it! It needs a slight amount of finish work (which he states in the listing) but overall it is very nice! The gate works as well as having the lift mechanism work! I cant speak to the accuracy of this to a real dump bed but I am super happy with it! It is also made of styrene plastic and comes fully assembled! Check out his other truck stuff on ebay, I would not hesitate buying from him again and even though I'm not a big truck builder he does offer some other stuff I'm interested in such as a flat bed, some car stands, engine hoist and some towing stuff! -

I have not been able to get much done lately but I did some assembly and weathering. The basic truck is together I just need s couple finishing touches! I added some rust to the welding racks and got the tanks painted. Comments welcome! -
Great thank you for the info!

I'm not really sure this is the best place for this but it kind of goes along with another thread I started here about needing a 1 ton dump bed. My club is doing a dump truck build this year for our project, we usually to a club project like most clubs. Anyway I have been working on my "real" entry for the project, a 1 ton Ford dump truck. What I wanted to know does anyone make a resin toilet? I did a search and checked some resin places and didnt see anything. I was thinking about doing a "gag" truck for the build, see where this is going? So waht I thought was taking a pickuptruck I already have built and adding a few toilets in the bed, maybe 4 or 6 and creating a "dump truck" ! I know its weird and kind of sick but i htought it would be funny! Do they make any for the "G" scale railroad guys? Comments and suggestions always welcome! Thanks!

Thanks! Good info for scratchbuilding, I never thought about using machinist blocks to square it up. If I end up scratchbuilding the bed I was planning on moving the sides in and then adding a rail on the top and bottom, basiclly framing it in with a little smaller set of rails going down the sides as stiffeners. Thats what most beds look like in all the searchs I have been doing. -

I originally started out at 12 foot long and it looked way to long, I cut some off and it still seems a little long. But in the mean time Steve suggested that I take a look at BCS-trading on ebay. He sells a styrene dump bed for $35.00. It comes already assembled but he said they need some finishing work, sanding etc. I bought one to see how it is and will post some pics when I get it. He has a bunch of other stuff that looks pretty cool and reasonably priced with 100% positive feedback. -

I did a mockup last night out of a thicker card stock, It went pretty well and doesnt look that bad. It is to long looking and to wide for the truck, also to tall in the front! I was going with lower sides and then add some scale 2 x 6 boards to the sides which is a pretty common sight! -

Thanks for all the tips and info guys!! I am not to concerned about laying out the bed parts, more with getting a nice straight cut and fixturing the pieces square while gluing. I might try and make some cardboard templates and see if I can get a decent mock up. If a resin one comes along soon ill probably still get it!!!!! -

Good point on making straight cuts, that would help in keeping it square! If I can't get a resin bed it would be very satisfying to scratch build a bed...as long as it looked decent!!!! -

That would make a realistic and solid dump bed, could bend up the metal so it looked liked a well used bed. I think that is way beyond my skill level!! I'm amazed at the work people on this forum do in brass!! -

I thought about trying that, it would be a first attempting something like that. I dont think getting the measurements or pictures or referance material would be all that hard, I would be more concerned with getting everything "square" on the basic body. I think the best way would be to build a fixture to hold everything where it needs to be then move on to the "details". I also thought that after everything was glued together taking a small tip soldering iron and trying to replicate welded seams, might look pretty cool! But on the other hand it would be a LOT quicker to get a resin one for $40 !!!!!! -

I'm a little bit surprised that there has never been a 1 ton pickup based dump truck given how many you see around! I think it would be a pretty good seller! -
Belly Tank kit in styrene
fordf-100 replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I would like to see a styrene belly tanker! Maybe with an as yet undone late 50's early 6o's pickup truck as s tow vehicle! That would increase the interest in the kit, although I would take one in styrene In just about any form! -

Hi all, finished up the interior, tried to have lots of paper and junk around. Made a quick clip board with delivery paper work! Also cut the Gage's off the weld tanks and made some caps. Still need to put some slots in the caps! Comments welcome! -
Nice! I really like the color Combo looks awesome!
