  1. John as usual amazing work. I have a observation and suggestion though if you don't mind. Looking at the roundness of the Merc body compared to the speedster tonneau you've created. It's very angular and would look great on a old T-bird or something. But this needs more roundness like the aero humps behind the driver on a vintage Porsche Spyder racing car. Just food for thought.
  2. Why does it need to be? A guys walks in at 11:10 when registration closes at 11:00. He's just driven in from Hoboken, had some travel issues and is expecting to get turned away. The judges are still being briefed by the head judge and as yet have not started at the tables. Is it so wrong to make this guys day and let him drop a couple models on the table? Isn't this hobby about having a good time? Isn't our sense of community worth it? This hobby is about our escape from the deadlines, due dates and billing days of every day life. The judging rules should be rigidly enforced. That's what keeps things fair across the board. This isn't the olympics folks.
  3. A great outlook Dan, but Matt is mostly in it to win it. And if things aren't the way he likes them, he's gonna attitude up and not participate. What he doesn't seem to get is that it isn't the quantity of work done to a model that wins contests. It's the quality of the work done. And based on that criteria, the IPMS judging rules are appropiate. And that is why a cleanly built box stock with a great finish and no visible flaws, will whip a highly detailed photoetched/mega scratched build with a few flaws every time. And it should.
  4. As a former member of an IPMS club I'll address some of these issues. Below in BOLD.
  5. Both great kits. Also the Revell 67 and 68 Charger kits. You're getting good advice here. Take your time. The fingerprints in the paint happened because you were likely rushing to see that final product. Believe me it's worth waiting for. Sand all mold lines. Get some nail care sanding sticks from a beauty supply store. Spray paint everything! Brush paints for the most part are just for detailing. Keep us posted.
  6. Me too. Looks right.
  7. I ca't wait to see this come together.
  8. Yeah. I spotted this on one of my FB modeling page. It does look VERY promising.
  9. A wonderfully original build. It's right up my alley. I love what you have done so far. The only thing that pops to mind is that I would paint the "pillared?" areas on the sides and top that the surf board is resting on, to resemble wood. And the area beneath the surf shack sign. There are a few tutorials floating around to help you accomplish this.
  10. Thanks Rommel, if things go well at work today and tomorrow at work, I'll have the weekend off and will be getting back at it. The steering wheel is in the dip. I was unhappy with how it turned out. I'll try something else.
  11. John, that is amazing. Can't wait to see more.
  12. I painted the frame to resemble wood. Got the top glued on and the steering wheel is nearly done. I still have to weather the top a bit. Comments and criticisms and ideas are kindly welcome.
  13. Street demon...........cool. But dated. Custom Batmobile .................cool forever. Just a thought.
  14. Try a little baremental foil. Err..............Baremetal Foil that is. Baremental.............that's pretty funny. Anyway............burnish it down good. Then hit it with some high grit sand paper (1000+) I did this hood this way to replicate unpainted steel. For aluminum, maybe hit the whole thing with a little dull coat to bring down the shine. I think that might get pretty close to aluminum. In theory anyway. Let us know how this works out.
  15. Okay, my bad. I got the shows confused. Perhaps ready for the show in Pinessas Park in November, I forget who's putting it on.
  16. Oct 14th...............doubtful. But I really want to have it done for the Nov. MAGS show or certainly, JAXCON in Feb. Thanks for the ataboys guys.
