  1. Wonderful news. Your life is now changed forever. Enjoy.
  2. Interesting! I'm looking forward to seeing this come together.
  3. Okay some work done as I found some time between work and sleep. I did a trial attempt with an old bench seat and it worked great. Elmers craft spray adhesive and the pantie material. When the adhesive was dry. I put a straight edge on the back and made my cut. It looks perfect, no fraying or pulling. So I have taped off the areas that are tuck and roll on the door panels. This area will be distressed a bit and then painted to resemble wood. I'd have painted those first but acrylic craft paint hates masking tape. The edges where the wood meets the red fabric will get the gold piping. I'll cut the excess red fabric away tomorrow and see how she looks. I also got the two last pieces for this one. The skelly (whom will be refered to as Cap'n Bones from here on) and the rum barrel. I'm a little disappointed with the way Cap'n Bones was molded. The hand is molded to the head and the legs are joined where they cross. Gonna be tricky separating these so that he's posable. Having a fun time with this.
  4. Just a heads up. I got my flyer in the mail today for the MAGS show Oct 15 and 16th at the Tampa Fairgrounds. Its during the SE Street Rod Nats. Admission for the car show is $14 and the model contest is $7 for as many models as you want. Registration is 10am - 4pm Saturday, awards are on 2pm Sunday. You get a free pass to the car show for Sunday if you enter. Theme this year is In-lines and flat heads. If you want more info and a registration form, email modelers@hotmail.com or shoot me a private message and I'll give you David Knights phone number. He put it on the flyer so I'm sure he won't mind me giving it out. I hope to see you all there. Virgil, the Jacksonville show is in Feb as I said, and it is an IPMS show. Forget any stories you have heard about other IPMS shows, this show is excellent, and put on by some solid folks. Wayne and Jim have both been and I'm sure they'll agree.
  5. I don't recall anyone in this thread attacking another builders work. We are discussing the entries like adults and giving our opinions on the entire contest. I'm very glad you re-entered the hobby and placed well in the contest. You should be proud because I would be. You will find that only a very small percentage of MCM member entered this contest. Most abstained for one reason or another. We are having a discussion. If what we are discussing offends you, you are free to move on to another thread. And since you felt free to take a shot at us, let me return the favor. A sentence begins with a capital letter. It is spelled "negative", "opinion" and "their". Revell gets a capital letter as it is a name. Call your English teacher, you need more work.
  6. You are killing me with these! (lmao emoticon here)
  7. Great work. It's hard to get the smaller kits to have that same authentic look but I think you nailed it.
  8. Hmm.........I've done a couple pro-streets back in the day but I've only got one true drag racing build. It is quite old. I was stil in my modeling infancy when I did this so go easy on me. I could fill a book with the flaws in this thing, but I'm glad I still have it after all these years. Revell 55 Chevy. Scratch built chassis/roll cage (my first) with a blown 427.
  9. I feel very lucky that in my limited experience in contests (I only do two a year for the last five years now, but may be increased to three here soon) I have never had a bad experience where I didn't think the winners deserved it. I've assisted with the judging in some cases and learned a lot on why certain models win over others.
  10. Most people here have seen my stuff lots. Feel free to peruse my Photobucket (link below) and check it out.
  11. That looks great Wheels, I'm gonna give that a try.
  12. Everyone thanks for the advice. Michelle I think that might be a good idea. I'm wondering if I can't layer the Metal Cast orange over yellow or vice versa to arrive at a brass type color.
  13. Harry you are of course correct on how Photoshop could change things in a photo contest like this. But as it's been shown so far, a vast majority of the entrants couldn't even take a decent photograph, much less have the know how to retouch a photo. Probably another reason why Revell would not want this becoming a prestigious event.
  14. I know Harry. That doesn't mean I gotta like it. As someone who probably spent $200 last year on Revell products (not much compared to some), this reeeaaaalllyyy pissed me off. And I just got done telling them so. Politely.
  15. My biggest problem with this was the "receipt" rule. I have 55 kits. At least three of them were on the list and un-started. I really chapped my hide that I had to go buy #56 to participate. I hope that rule goes by-by too. I think I'll e-mail Revell about that now.
  16. Can I get an "amen" from the congregation, brothers and sisters?
  17. Nope. Her idea. She's my decor consultant. I said "Dear, I need something satiny and thin for the interior of this model." Without missing a beat she said, "Panties. I'll check the dollar store tomorrow." That's my gal. Oh and by the way, some work done but nothing worth photographing. Floor pan in primer. Black tomorrow and then I start laying the wood flooring. For a wonder, the chassis and engine will be the last thing done because they require no alterations. I don't think that's ever happened to me before . I've masked off the areas on the door panels I don't want in red satin pantie material. I'll use some spray adhesive and cover the entire piece in he satin. When dry I'll try trimming away the excess with a new blade and a straight edge. Hopefully the adhesive will hold it well.
  18. Virgil, I know that the MAGS guys throw one in Gainesville in the spring and the Jacksonville IPMS chapter does Jaxcon in February, and I always try to make that one. I know either would be a three hour trip for you and the Tampa shows almost five. Hope to see you some time.
  19. I'm looking forward to this.
  20. This my only completion in a while. It will go with this.
  21. Anyone tried this yet? Pics please if you have.
  22. Great point. No idea. I guess the entrants themselves would have to decide whether they fit the "master builder" mold. And volunteer to compete as such. IMHO, I don't think they (Revell) want this contest as a prestige event. They want this to pull in new builders. Not just add a new trophy to the collections already on walls. Simple as that. Thanks to Drew Hierwarter for chiming in and filling in the big question mark. Photo quality was the big issue. I can see that. As I've seen at work, your average guy doesn't know what a macro function is. I'll be looking forward to next year and may consider entering.
  23. Boy this is another subject altogether but what you have to realize is that "clean and precise building" is the norm here, moreso than any other forum on the web. If everyone drove around in Ferrari's why would yours catch anyones attention? This isn't an attack, just an observation.
