  1. Folks, I'm really sorry for the lousy pics. With good light and background my 5 megapix phone cam usually does well, but did not do so here. Some fantastic work here in Tampa. Check out the pics. http://s53.photobucket.com/albums/g73/Jantrix/SESRN%20Models%2011/?start=0
  2. Yep, I took about 200+ photos as well, I'll get them posted up soon. My photos of the models however are terrible. The lighting was so bad, macro didn't work very well so many pictures are blurry or had to be shot from further away with standard auto-focus.
  3. Guys.................thanks very much. It and a couple other builds are at the show now, Awards tomorrow. There is sooo much great work there, we'll see how it stacks up. Jim, whatever problems you were having with your finishes, you've obviously solved it. You really brought your A-Game. Great stuff.
  4. Yep, I play, I just don't go beyond voting to avoid loking silly when I'm wrong. And yeah Harry thanks to you, I won't sleep for not knowing. I hope you can live with yourself.
  5. I'm an absolute wiz on air guitar. I have several very nice ones too. I'd show you but..............ya know.
  6. I'll be there Len. Who's putting this one on?
  7. Thanks very much for the ataboys guys. You guys are the builders I have learned from and are a major source of inspiration. My skills wouldn't be where they are without you. I salute you.
  8. HOLY COW! Can we get some pics of what condition it is in now?
  9. That sounds like fun JIm, I'll check the calender.
  10. 1. Wait for a truly unique idea. 2. Find a kit that would best fit said idea. 3. Layout a plan of attack. 4. Begin standard build practices, cleaning/sanding/filling etc. 5. Get the engine and chassis built, scratchbuilding and modifying as necessary. 6. Back in the box while I agonize over the paint and/or build issue and the finish of the body. 7. Six months later, having figured out how to fix said issue, (while ofter involves a drastic change to step 3) paint and finish kit. It aint real professional but it works for me.
  11. I've also built the Monogram kit and enjoyed it. My only gripe was that the rear quarters were so pinched in the rear that it kept squeezing the chassis further up into the body. I ending up using a piece of carboard folded accordion style into the trunk area to keep things square. I built this when I returned to the hobby in '01.
  12. It's gonna be real slow with the front end dragging like that.
  13. My achilles heel is my modelling ADD. Unless I'm totally inspired and absorbed with the work, it will eventually end up back in the box while I start something new that DOES inspire me.
  14. Heck, Jim, I've seen the improvement just from your pics here on the board. Can't wait to see them.
  15. Excellent! I look forward to seeing you again Jim.
  16. And then it is alphabetized, color coordinated, arranged by size and meticulously cleaned.
  17. Thanks very much. It was a vintage AMT 34 Ford pick-up. EDIT- Oh ######. I just looked at the pics and realized I didn't cut off the mounting pins on the inline 6 manifold. DOH!
  18. 1. A chance to spend the day chatting with like minded folks. 2. Touch base with online pals. 3. To compete against said online pals and likeminded folks. 4. The vendors area. 5. Winning any award. Against such excellent builders, even an honorable mention is gratifying.
  19. The cardboard box was made from grocery bag paper. The orange crate was made from basswood and a photoreduced label. The rest is just kit parts modified to look a lilttle more realistic and then weathered. The compressed air tank was scratch built, and has been dulled down some since taking these photos. I had a great time doing this but I'm really happy it's done. I'll be entering this in the commercial vehicle class in a few upcoming contests. Hope you like. Comments and criticism are kindly welcome. Both are a chance to learn so don't hold back.
  20. It's finally done. The truck, the trailer, the junk. Since my posting of the truck in Under Glass, the only thing I have added is the stakeside sign. To the trailer I have added a good deal of salvaged vintage parts. As well as some tools that a salvage truck mught need. I'm really jazzed with how well it's turned out.
  21. I don't really have a "grail" kit but the one unavailable kit I'd really like more than any, is the Johan '60 Desoto Adventurer. Every time I see it on ebay they are outa my price range.
  22. I'm with ya there. They do the judging at night after the show is closed. After everyone leaves at least one member camps out and there is a couple security guards in the building as well because of all the expensive verdor property. But still........I understand your apprehension.
  23. Anyone plan on making this one?
