I think you've nailed it right there Mark. If the bar is raised to NNL/IPMS Best of Show levels, they will see participation drop off tremendously. Maybe add a "masters" class?

I while back there was a fella that had done a real nice job turning his chrome gold by applying a coat of wood stain. Has anyone tried this? Airbrush? What shade had the best results? I'm wanting to turn the kit chrome on the Revell 49 Merc gold or maybe even a brass color. Any help would be kindly appreciated.

Honestly? Aside from two or three really nice ones I'm a bit underwhelmed. We see much better work on your average day on this forum, than is represented in their winners/honorable mentions.

I will try to make some meetings Jim, but I just honestly don't have the time right now, even if the meetings we across the street from the house. I have three months left on my contract and they are piling up the OT for us temps because we are paid from a different bucket than the permanent people, and they have cut their OT to nil. Also I have an outside chance of getting hired by Honeywell, so I'm not gonna say no. I'll keep you posted. Hopefully I'll see some of you guys at the Tampa and Pinellas Park shows this year.

My mistake guys it was Hollywood Jim, who built the Bad Penny. Sorry Jim. Thanks guys. First order, clean up the floor pan, paint and begin laying the wood floor boards in the cab and trunk area. Clean up the body and the cuts I've made and get it in primer.

Okay quick quiz. What do a pair of Dollar Store silky panties, gold thread, Revell 49 Merc, a sheet of balsa, a sheet of thin brass, some cheap Michaels jewelry, and some skulls all have in common? To help you out the name of my next theme build - the Jolly Roger! I've been planning this for a long time, and it is heavily inspired by Doc Cranky's work and Hollywood Jim's Bad Penny. Finally the last pieces I need, a barrel and a scale skeleton are on their way to me this week. The kit will feature a highly detailed interior which is why I removed the top. I'll add wood supports and fabricate a removable canvas-esque soft top.The trunk will be hinged and I'll fabricate a treasure chest to be featured there. Engine, chassis, suspension, wheels etc. will be box stock. The paint will be flat black, but I have much more planned for it that I'll keep under wraps for now. I'm not going to do anything silly like sails and what not. Lots to do, it's gonna be fun.

I'm in need of some pics on how these big monsters are fed coolant. The engines I have outa one of these Snakebite kits has no marks/openings in the intake that would designate "coolant hose attaches here." Any help would be appreciated.

Good point. Maybe I'll just call it an altered wheelbase dragster. You might actually find such a machine on a drag strip more than a Speed Week event. Well most rail type dragsters don't have a rear suspension at all. I think it would be something like that. Also I've heard that a lot of salt lake streamliners have the axles hard mounted to the chassis like a hard tail motorcycle.

Actually I'm thinking there isn't even going to be a drive shaft, or at least something very short like a dragster, so suspension would be a moot point. Thanks for the info though Eelco. And Harry you are so right, but lets face it, it's a model. It's not supposed to be practical. Just fun.

I've got something ...........different in my head concerning a land speed car. The idea is unlike anything I've seen before and like as not would be completely ill suited as a land speed car, but man I think it will look wicked. Something like this. Yep, twin rear engines and the rear tires out in back of the car. I'm trying to figure out the physics of this odd ball and was wondering if adding a rear suspension would be done on something like this. I know it's a fictional car that would never be built in reality, because the whole idea is ludicrous, but I'm gonna build it anyway. I got the idea from seeing a big offshore racing boat and thought about building the automotive equivilant. Just looking for some feedback if anyone has a moment. Edit, I'm planning to drive the rear wheels thusly.

What I'd like to know is how long after production of this kit Revell realized the cover car is missing its driver side headlight lenses.

I went into my local hobby shop one afternoon and the manager, whom I usually stop and talk to was chatting with a fella who was in a full leg cast. Ankle to hip. After the fella left I inquired as to the guys injuries while the manager was ringing up my purchase. He had been using an old metal cannister type shop vac as his paint booth exhaust. Worked great for a couple of years and then one day, BANG!! The guy awoke in the hospital with a broken right femur, a destroyed right knee and .............a ruptured right testicle. The motor/lid of the vac had come flying off with enough force to break his femur! I figure you've gotten the point by now. Just save your pennies for a while and buy the right tool for the job.

You are very lucky to find someone willing to part with the clear Bad Actor glass. I was looking to do this very trade last year and had no takers. I'm also looking for clear glass. If anyone has some they are willing to part with.
