GREAT!! Have fun building it!! It should help you keep from being too bored between classes during your last week in sunny CA. Later,

Well...with what we found...we certainly won't be riding around Bakersfield looking for hobby shops again anytime soon... And, you're quite welcome!! You're one of many who has dedicated a part of their life to help maintain our standard of living. I'm proud to say that I have you as a friend. Regards,

Thanks!! After saving the world from certain doom, he got all of his credits back...along with a lifetime exemption from any and all traffic violations. Later,

Are you kidding...I only went over 80 to pass a couple of trucks...and, we got passed by a Prius!! Anyway, I had a GREAT day!! Thanks guys!!

Thanks, guys!! This one was a lot of fun to build!! After I show it at the NNL West early next year, I'll be boxing it up and shipping it to our Studebaker loving Marine friend, Clay Jones. Curt and I took a road trip today down to Bakersfield to meet Clay for lunch and do a bit of hobby shopping. If you're ever in Bakersfield, don't bother looking for hobby shops. The only one we found that was remotely close to being a hobby shop was a vacuum repair shop that also sold RC cars, parts and some models. All they had at the time were a few of the Revell choppers. Well, I'm planning on building one more hover-car, probably from a Revell '49 Merc. We'll see... Later,

Thanks, guys!! Yes, this was a really quick build by my standards...and only the second model I've finished so far this year. Yes, I've used clear rod in the past. There's always the trade-off between the smaller size and strength of a wire rod versus a larger diameter and clarity of clear rod to deal with. For this build I went with strength of the brass rod because with all of the plastic used to make the bottom and the interior, this one is actually a bit on the heavy side, (for a plastic model). Well...you'll see it Saturday!! Here's the link to the finished build Under Glass. Later,

This was a quick build for me, and if you look close enough...it's starting to show a little. I really rushed the paint on this one and I'm starting to see a bit of ghosting from the bodywork. That's actually OK for this build...this was meant to be a 1953 Stude upgraded with a bit of hover-craft technology to fly the skies of 2263!! Here's a view of the picture I used for the base of the diorama. It's a picture looking down on the New York cityscape that I grabbed from the special effects DVD right after Leeloo jumped from the building. It was also the picture that helped me decide what color to paint the car. I may shorten the brass stem about another inch and paint it black...but I'll wait a couple of days to see how I like it the way it is before I do... Here's a shot of the forward tilting hood. You can see better pics of the engine bay and the interior under the the link to the build. Well, this one's about 99.99% done. A few minor touch-ups here and there and it'll be ready for the Stockton show. Later,

Thanks, guys!! Tonight I got the outer perimeter of the diorama base painted black and printed the downward view picture of the cityscape just after Leeloo jumped of of the building ledge, (see below). After the paint on the base dries, I'll trim the picture and glue it to the base. It should look pretty cool when it's done!! I'll post pics of the finished build tomorrow night!! Later,
-
Thanks, Brian!! It's good to hear from you. We'll see you at the next NNL West!! Thanks, Virgil!! Maybe if I'd have weathered it a bit, (or a lot), you'd like it even more Later,
-
Thanks, Virgil!! I thought of weathering it, but the 2nd concept for the car was that this was something given to Korben as a gift after he helped save the world Thanks!! And...yes, 2263 was the year the movie takse place in. Later,

I can't help it...I'm old See you Saturday!! Later,

This one is about 95% done. I still need to add the headlight lenses, make a new hinge for the hood, finish the detail on the bottom and give it one last cleanup. The overall look is exactly what I was looking for when I started this quick fill in project. Any guesses on what the plate stands for? Yeah...the "KD" portion is pretty easy... The Vette interior really helps sell the 2 seater concept for this build. The engine bay is a little more spartan than I wanted, but the few information plaques help add a bit of color and detail to the look under the hood. This one should be "Under Glass" tomorrow evening...unless I get a bit lazy and put it off until Thursday or Friday... Later,

It's almost done...I'm working on it during commercials while we're watching America's Got Talent... Thanks, Ryan!! Yeah...I watched the movie again yesterday. Check the 5th Element folder on my Fotki site for a few cool cityscape pics from the special effects DVD that came with the movie. There's a picture of the hover craft repair center that I don't think appears in the movie. Later,

Do you just wake up in the morning and find these things sitting finished on your workbench? I really don't know how you do it!! I've had to repolish the Korben Cruiser several times just to get rid of the fingerprints from handling it so soon after it was painted, and I barely put any paint on this one.. Nice job, as usual!! Later,

Thanks, Jarius!! I'm glad that you like the mods I made, mostly to the kit, but also to your original artwork!! You're correct, it really is a GREAT parts kit!! That chassis will slip perfectly under the Revell '51 Chevy convertible withtout having to alter the wheelbase. I already checked!! It would be too bad if they never reissue it, only because it is such a good source of parts. Later,

I really like that one!! Hmmm...where can I get the jet-like side pods without spending too much $$ ?? Thanks, Charles and John!! Chris Tucker was pretty wild in that movie, and yes, my middle name IS Stud Muffin! Later,
-
GREAT PROGRESS, JOHN!! I don't envy you the paint work ahead, but I know you'll figure it all out!! Thanks for sharing,
-
Thanks, Alyn!! Yeah, this has been a lot of fun!! Actually, I started with the Revell '49 Merc first...but I only got as far as the conceptual work in PowerPoint. I was going to do a "cab-forward" design, but I never actually started cutting the body. Maybe I'll start on it next...

That's pretty cool that you still have an old build from your youth!! Sometimes I wish that I still had some of my builds from when I was younger, but I just keep running out of room!! Keep up the GREAT work!! Later,
