AMT Freightliner Single Axle
Old Albion replied to rottin1's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
This looks great. I'm impressed with the standard of restoration works that I have seen on the forum. Its difficult to tell that the trucks are restorations. It amazes me how to strip the trucks with out damaging the components etc. The SD Freightliner is an expensive kit to buy so restoration if you have the skills is definately a feasible option. Very Impressive, keep the photo's coming I certainly want to see how this one ends up. -

Greg, This is coming along nicely. I never thought of painting a truck flat black before, but this gives me ideas especially for old vehicles with well weathered paint. Good Luck with the rest of your project and keep us posted with photo's I've seen some of your video's of your full size Pete on Youtube. That is a nice motor. It certainly sounds well and by the looks of it you certainly look after it. Excellent truck!!!! Do you take it to any of the truck shows? -

Wow Scott you've been busy this last week. You need to have more weeks off work Looks like an interesting project. Will you be manufacturing a new scratchbuilt tanker trailer to go with it? Look Forward to seeing the updates. Good Luck! -
Rebuilder - Take Three FINISHED!
Old Albion replied to mackinac359's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Tim, This looks great, the Pete looks right at home in the sunshine with the doubles. Little Window 359s are one of my all time favourites. For the car headlights check the AMT ERTL Dick Tracy Ford kit 6107: http://cgi.ebay.com/AMT-DICK-TRACY-COUPE-F...VQQcmdZViewItem Or the Heller Citroen 15CV kit 80763 http://cgi.ebay.com/CITROEN-15CV-1-24-scal...VQQcmdZViewItem Or the AMT ERTL Lincoln gangbusters kit 38167 http://cgi.ebay.com/ERTL-AMT-1-25-1928-LIN...VQQcmdZViewItem The headlights from the Lincoln are big as they were in the 1920s I used these on my Pete 380 and also the windscreen wipers from the Citroen. I will build the 3 cars eventually but as wrecks that have stood in the weeds for the last 30 years with parts missing. All needing total restoration and forming the load for the AMT Haul away trailer. Hope this helps. -

Old Albion replied to mackinac359's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Tim, This looks great. Your choice of colours well suits the Pete. Scott's tip about the headlights for the Ford is a very good idea. I bought 3 car kits some time ago for the same reason. The headlights are really superb and look the part. Look forward to the finished photo's. Best Wishes -
playin with the camera!
Old Albion replied to m3m's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Bub, What a great idea. When I first opened up the photo I thought it was real smoke from the tyres. It took me a while to realise it was cotton wool. I find that the angles and the height which you take photo's are critical to help disguise that fact that it is a model. When I'm taking photo's of my trucks and trailers I try and position the camera at the 1/25, 1/24 scale height at which my head would be to the real truck. I find that this helps to give a much better perspective. I only take photo's from above only if I wanted to show specific details. I to have had trouble uploading photo's and will try again now that Rocket has given us that tip. Great Work. -
Scott, The General looks great well suited to the drop deck trailer. I have been reading your comments and looking through some of your photo's. Your attention to detail, depiction of how a real truck and trailer looks on the road is very impressive. I liked your tips on weathering with the chalk. Superb Work! Look forward to the next project.

Italeri Curtainside Trailer
Old Albion replied to rottin1's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Johnny, This is an excellent build. The trailer really does compliment the Old Pete, as a truck trailer combination they look great. Your standards of finishing are really first class!!!! I wish my finishing was as good as this. -
What is the correct procedure for loading photo's to a post? I don't think the method I'm using is correct? If someone has already covered this problem, appologies for my ignorance and could you please direct me to the relevant topic or post. Many Thanks.

Its been awhile since I started this project and wanted to post an update. I haven't done much but have made some progress. The front fenders and bumper are 95% complete and the truck is starting to take shape. I have decided not to fit the Detroit 6-71N because of the length. The rear of the engine sits right under the cab which looks totally impractical (It would be impossible to maintain) So have decided to install the Detroit 6V instead. This will be much more compact and look much more practical. The engine has been ordered today so it will take a short while for it to arrive. Hopefully within the next 2 to 3 weeks I will have a rolling chassis complete with cab and hood. http://public.fotki.com/oldalbion/autocar-8-x-4-heavy/ Thanks for looking

Old Albion replied to phoneguy's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Jerry, This is looking good. The dark green metallic paint looks well. I shall be buying one of these new release DM600 soon maybe I will build it as a dumper as well. The Old Dog seems to be at home with a dump body. -
Source for budd hole wheels?
Old Albion replied to asterisk's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I don't know if anyones seen these yet but AITM now have a range of 2 and 5 hole wheels to work with the ertl kit tyres. These wheels look great! http://www.aitruckmodels.com/pages/kitsparts.html -
Truckmodeler.com?
Old Albion replied to Jim B's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I,ve just checked to see if I can open Truckmodeler.com and get straight to it. I have noticed on some occassions that if the system or the server that I use is busy then it takes for ever to try and open a web site or move to a new page. I have Truckmodeler.com saved as a favourite so I don't have to keep typing the address in. Tim has changed the way he presents the builds on his web site and I like the new format. The large photo on the left, description underneath and the small thumb nails on the right. Keeps everything together so it makes easy life of following a particular build. With regards to it being quiet. Yes I agree. I've been pretty busy of late and haven't really had the get up and go to do anything with my latest build when I get home. Some progress has been done on the Autocar but not enough to take photo's of. However, I will make some progress this week and post some photo's over the weekend. There is a lot of builds on the forum which I'm watching and indeed looking forward to seeing progress photo's. But I guess its the time of year with long daylight hours and the warm sun maybe people don't feel like being in the workshop? Best Wishes to all -
Scott, This is looking good, I like the lift axle, do any of these lift axles on North American trucks steer? I ask this because I was looking at a photo of a 6 axle Paystar dump truck which had 3 lift axles and just wondering how they get round tight curves? Good Luck with the rest of the project and keep us posted with updates.

What I am working on UPDATE!
Old Albion replied to mackinac359's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Tim, This is one of the best builds I've seen you do. For me it ranks alongside your "Iron Pete" (My overall favourite) the matching yellow 359 and 352 day cab tractors with opening doors and the metalic blue 1987 359 with raised walk in sleeper. The little details like the spot mirrors, mud flaps, frame details look great. Will you be building the double trailers? I know a lot of people on the forum including myself would love to see you build a modern trailer set up as in the photo. Outstanding work! look forward to the next build. -
Hmmm!!! This new forum is different. I'm just trying to navigate my way around it. Looks like there are a lot more options available. I used to like the old forum especially the little thing that let you know that there were new posts. Can this be incorporated into the new forum? Question for the Administrators. Why change to the new Forum?? Is it because the old forum is out of date and no longer supported with Software etc. Or is it for the additional features?? Or some other reason? I like this forum, the people and the trucks. Its great to see the skills of others and to comunicate with people who have a genuine interest in the same things as myself. I first encountered the Model car magazine forum by clicking the link on Tim's web site, since then I keep a regular daily check on all posts, because I like what I see and I'm interested and want to learn from others. I,m sure it will take a while to get used to it but we'll get there.
