  1. I read all this info first and decided to give this a try. I ordered sept. 19 and waited till early November before calling the help line and e-mailing to find out what the problem was. got zero response. on nov. 12, I put in a complaint with paypal, and voilla!! 30 minutes later order was complete and paint tracking # was issued. received order today 11/15 and he included a free bottle of paint with 3 nice pipettes, and a coupon for another free bottle with my next order, which will never happen. Im going to try splash paint next time I need some as It looks like they have all the good colors and will mix colors for you if they don't stock them. Plus if I find I need gravity paint I will order it from Spain like everyone else is doing.
  2. amazing you could spot that from my pics. I could not see from the revell manuall which way was correct, and from my memory of 48 years ago when I owned the 1:1 the bowls seemed to be in the rear. anyway I appreciate the observation, but I think it would be more trouble to reverse them at this point. I would make a mess...lol
  3. I think this is the best work I've done on an engine. went ahead and bought the wires from the show in Orlando at Ace Café . I took a little more time with it. parts are so small in some cases I have a little trouble finding them on the floor. anyway, it's the 389 ci tri power that was standard I think in 66. I know they went to a 400 in 67 and up. maybe the tri power was an option. I plan on putting some hoses also when I get to that point in the build. anyway, so far so good. progress is slow, but so am I. thanks for all the comments. I do appreciate it.
  4. I love that shade of red. the car looks fantastic. well done !!
  5. That's a line I refuse to cross. drinking alcohol should never be wasted on a hunk of plastic my friend...lmao...
  6. when I was searching paint colors I saw the arctic blue and it was one of my possible picks. I am a fan of the 67-69 chevelles. especially the 69. when I had the real 66 gto , I got beat in a street race by a 69 Chevelle 396 ss 4 speed with isky race cam and some other goodies the guy neglected to tell me. It was a beautiful machine!! mine was stock with the 3 deuces only.
  7. body painted. pictures not the best, but pretty good representation. I used Tamiya royal blue acrylic thinned with 70% IPA with a neo /Iwata air brush. Im still trying to get the hang of the dual action AB as coordination is quite necessary for success. let me know if you can see where improvement is needed or helpful. might be hard to do as I see defects on film from lighting and reflections. btw, this color is so close to the color of my 1:1 back in the day I'm really amazed with that. One more thing. can anyone recommend a high gloss clear coat to finish it off with. thanks...
  8. Nice work. Im going to build a 40 Ford in the near future and hope it comes out half as good as your 49
  9. super job. I love it....
  10. you didn't get it.
  11. excellent workmanship.. and surely it would have had a new set of tires installed since 1980....???
  12. THATS IT !!! THANKS hehehe
  13. I had the 1 to 1 back in the day with 389 tri power hurst 4 speed and cheater slicks on the rear. I will try to duplicate the real one with this kit. will be midnight blue exterior and lighter blue interior. the kit even has the decals for the white racing stripes down the sides. I don't think they are called racing stripes. the word escapes me. maybe someone can remind me ..so far this looks to be pretty detailed kit. I hope to do It justice thanks for looking..
  14. well done !!
  15. ya'll know how to make an old man feel better.. : > )
  16. I appreciate your comments very much. I think I was expecting more from myself than I got is all. The interior is especially bad. I found out there, that it cant be rushed. In fact none of it can be rushed and expect great results. The molotow is a very good product, but also needs to be applied carefully. I had an easier time with it than the foil. However, the foil is really good if you can ever get the hang of it..Im going to do a 66 GTO next, and hope I get a better result from what I have learned from this build. Thanks again.....
  17. this is my second build after 50+ years since building mostly AMT kits in the 60's. There are a few firsts going on here. 1st time using an air brush for painting. 1st time doing a 2 tone paint job. 1st time using bare metal foil. 1st time using molotow pen. I watched a few videos on installing BMF. a lot of the scale modeling channel by Tom Ruijter, and some by doctor cranky. after watching Tom, I thought how cool and easy this was going to be. after watching doctor cranky, I thought he just didn't have the knack for it. now, I completely understand why cranky recommends taking Excedrin and lots of breaks while bmf ing. Tom is not human. he is a magician for sure. I also don't remember from my teens how small parts seem to disappear in my fat fingers. and parts that hit the floor never to be seen again. and gloves are quite a help. otherwise glue gets everywhere it shouldn't and hardly any where its needed. I wanted to build a near show quality car, but I see its going to take a BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH load of practice. A few times during this build I considered giving up and tossing it in the file 13. Im too old for this?? so.. just a few photos to post and you can see the mess..
  18. It was a lot of fun to put together and didn't take forever. I put the steering wheel in and put some bmf on the door handles. now Im calling it done. I agree with the crowd that the paint color is one of the best choices for that model. appreciate the positive comments and glad I joined this group. THANKS !!!
  19. thanks for all the nice comments. I also just realized I forgot to put the steering wheel on. so Im in the right forum. I almost went in to under glass. lol. the body paint is model master Pontiac engine blue. I thought it looked great as a body color. almost like one of the factory colors I saw when researching that years factory color availability.
  20. hah !!! just realized I forgot to clear coat this one. got in a hurry .lol
  21. Picked up this easy snap tite kit by revell at a local flea market. of course I had to paint it, but it was good practice for me and the interior is the best one I've done so far. Still have lots to go, but I don't think I am going to try to build show quality cars. I just want to build near show quality. so if I muck it up I really wont worry too much about it.
  22. trying to add photo.. that worked. 57 chevy in progress.
  23. Thanks everyone.. Doug in Debary, nice coincidence, my son lives on stone island right down the street from you, and I have 2 very good buddies that live in that town too. and Chris, there is a model show coming up sooner than the one you mentioned. Sept. 14th -16th is modelpalooza in Orlando. That will be my first model event ever. then Im close enough to Tampa to hit that in Nov. maybe see you there... very cool...
  24. I have been following a few builders on this site for a short time now, and decided to join the group for the great info and tips etc. I am an old retired guy (34 yrs Disney) and I built a 61 chevy Impala Revell kit for posting on a home town forum that would possibly interest some of that group. It was my first attempt in about 52 years or so, so it didn't come out as good as the one I built that won 1st place in my boy scout troop. I still have the trophy, but don't remember what happened to the car. anyway, just building that chevy ignited my passion for staying with it and moving forward in the hobby. I have been learning an amazing amount of tips and how to's on you tube, and decided to try for the next level of skill. I am in the middle of building a 57 chevy, and have a 66 GTO ( I owned the full scale car in 69) in the batters box, and of course one of my grandson's got the bug from seeing me do this, so I am helping him with his first, a 68 camaro, both Revell kits. I also have 6 more kits in waiting that I picked up while shopping with the wife. It,s amazing what you can run across even in some antique venues..lol.. I can go on for hours, but I better quit while I can. Thanks for welcoming me to your forum and hope to share some good times here...
