What Would You Wish For?
CAL replied to bandit.93's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
A lot of times it's not some company not wanting to do a kit. Sometimes it is just the cost of licensing. Audi/VW group wants too much for licensing and is why you don't see any A4s, Passats, ect. I am real surprised there was an R8 released. It had been talked about for a long time but no one could afford the licensing. Maybe if the German Court allows the hostile takeover of VW and its offspring Audi, Lamborghini, Bentley, Bugatti, SEAT, and Skoda by Porsche they will loosen up a bit. Which sounds like it’s going to happen. The European Court of Justice overturned the “VW Law†However, is probably going to result in an appeal or lawsuit. And Porsche as taken out a 46 billion dollar loan, which has said they, at least hinted at, standing up to GM and Toyota as the largest automaker in the world. -
Oh ###### man, I hope you are okay. I guess that's why I have got any emails from ya. I think you sould take a crack at either a Johan Turbine or IMC GT-40 I had another friend who slipped and fell on a slippery shop floor. For ten years I heard him complain about back problems until one day his wife whipped something at him and trying to dodge it he spun around, lost his balance and fell flat on his ass. Funniest thing I ever saw. Fixed his back up, too. Never had a problem since. Vicadin? Vicadin! Vicadin is for girls. Try 2 750 perks. That will fix ya up.

That's encouraging! Looks like you did a nice job on it.

I have done this when Luc first came out with the idea and was voted on. I think it came in forth or something. Nevertheless, since, about a year and half later the kit was on the shelves. I can say reading peoples wish-list has never done anything for me. However, reading some of the responses to Luc's post has changed my mind about the validity of doing a particular kit. Who, what, why and when still makes a better argument that Nissan GT-R, 2007 Chevy Silverado 1500 2007 Chevy Silverado 2500HD 90's Callaway Twin Turbo Corvette Porsche 911 GT2. 2008 Cadillac CTS 2006 to current Pontiac Soltstice, or 2007-08 Saturn Sky Current Cadillac Escalade 2007 Ford Interceptor Concept Car 2008 Pontiac G8 (top line version) 1968-70 Mustang Shelby GT350-GT500KR Convertible 1957-58 Studebaker Golden Hawk (Long Shot! ) 1959 Corvette Stingray Racer 1964-65 Shelby Daytona Coupe 1970 Plymouth Barracuda coupe and convertible (a CORRECT one!) 51 Studebaker Starlight coupe truck kits (light and medium duty) BMWs (M3, M5, M6, 545, etc) Mercs (CLS, SL, S-class, etc) Audis (TT, RS6, S5, etc '08 CTS '70 Plymouth Sport Fury GT '67 Pontiac 2+2 '71 Caddy Coupe de Ville '71 Buick Centurion convertible '73 Chevelle SS '73 Buick Gran Sport '73 Grand Am '85-86 Mustang GT '87 Grand Prix 2+2, etc.. A little overwhelming... imagine an model exec going through this list... Verses something a little more thought out in terms of a compeling argument for producing a particular kit. I'd throw this list right in the dumpster. -

Polish the finish. There are some good polishing kits for model cars. -

Looks pretty good for your first one, considering the Enzo isn't a beginner's kit really. Advice, keep building. -
Good point, I didn't even think of that one.

I didn't mean to offend anyone. The fact is that virtually every bit of legislature, campaign and proponent of anti-smoking that led us to this point is virtually exclusively Democrat. I am not sure I could even name a single Republican. If there is such a large movement and laws against smoking advertising and sponsorship that makes it hard to get decals to put on a model who else is there to blame? So there is validation for the statement I made regardless if you like it or not. However there is a solid reasoning behind the statement I made. Fact: there are no mainstreem kits sold with tobacco decals. It is harder and harder to find tobacco decals, models with tobacco decals are not likely to be published - so in a sense you are being told don't put tobacco decals on your models, sponsoring cars has been virtually banned world wide. Granted that is not the exactly verbage used, but the underlying intent is clearly there. If it wasn't true you could buy a model kit with tabacco decals off the shelf at your LHS or Wally World, you could build it and get published in a mag without anyone ever saying a word about it, and who by and large created this? Democrates. It's just simple facts. Nothing to get overly excited about, and I am sorry if I got your undies in a bunch.

The $250,000? The Porsche 550 Spyder For the Enthusiast, Complete with engine detail, opening doors, bonnet and high detailed interior, exterior, chassis and suspension and engine compartment. Build street stock or James Dean’s Lil’ Bastared. The 550 is an important missing link with historical significance not withstanding it’s the car that the late Hollywood teen idol James Dean had is fatal accident in: chassis “500-055†which Dean call the Lil Bastared. Porsche’s earliest success in road racing and particularly the 24 hrs of Le Manse came in a 550. It also had a win in the small liter class at the 1955 24 hours of Le Mans and came in fourth overall. The 550 spyder was also awarded the Index of Performance: the car with the best-combined speed and economy throughout the entire field. In addition, today, the 550 spyder, with her smooth sexy lines, has become a highly sought after collectable classic. With only about 10 examples left in the world and it’s no surprise they go for millions of dollars at the action house. The Key kit elements. 1. Well engineered easy to build kit with exceptional detail. (along the lines of Tamiya in engineering and Accurate Miniatures detail. An additional PE fret of scripts, small details and engine grills would also be included in the approximately 150 part kit. 2. The box with the 550 gracefully pictured on the top would also include Fujimi’s body window so you can see the high detail and sexy lines of the model 550. 3. The easy to read simple to follow instruction book would have supporting black and white photos and would included an exploded view, parts layout, and three view drawings for reference and would go into tips and tricks to aid the builder in the construction of this magnificent model. What’s getting the ax? The first thing that would go would the engine, which would probably reduce cost by a significant amount. It would turn the kit into a curbside and give some aftermarket resin casters a chance to do a trans kit for it. -
That's pretty scary. I think I would have gave up at resin blob of a car.

A Birdcage Maserati would be cool. -
Correct. So I argue the new Ford GT-40 should really have been a GT-44.
-
You should have kept it to scare the one you build into submission
-
Yeah, I am not sure I ever seen a built IMC GT-40, except the one for the box art. Speaking of which, here is a trivia quiz. Where did the GT-40 get it's name?
-
Another couple good calls. Fujimi/Testors Enthusiast kits, and the flat panel kits. Eeeeew. Hey MO which Gen Pochre Merc do you have. Before or after the individual wirespoke wheels? I still want to get my hands on a Pocher Mercedes 500/540.

didn't specify that... 24247 is the road version or Club Racer. I am sure there will be a 997 GT2, probably just too new yet since it's only been out this year. -

The Porsche 911 GT2 has been kitted. However, the 550 hasn't at least in the main stream. I sure like to see that one kitted. It's probably one of the sexiest cars ever. -
Oh yeah, I forgot about that one. I have one of those on the self, too, and have been offered quite a bit of money for it. I know that one can be built. I have seen a really nice job someone did with that kit.

Hope everyone had a good thanksgiving. I am recovering myself and little tipsy, and this question came to mind as I looked around my collection of unbuilt kits. Do you have any or wont buy any kits becuase they scare you: e.g. that is to say the scare you because of the kit complexity, unbuildable due to quality or other reasons, is rare, or has a bad past history of being a monster. I know I have a few. I am the forth owner of a Testors Ford GT 40 MK II. I take it out of the box every so often... look at all the parts and in horror box it back up. I am not sure it can be built. The previous owner said there was NO WAY he could build it. I also have an original Heller 917K, which I am the third owner. It's a rare kit and I have heard horror stories about this kit. However, I believe it can actually be built. I am just afraid that if something goes wrong I won't be able to replace it. I have an original Heller Mercedes 300 SL, second owner, too, but I am not scared of that kit as much as the 917. Kind of funny how some of these kits get passed around but never built. And have all three of the AM Mclarens: need I say more. What are your boogie-models?

IIRC it's a polyester filler, Tamiya suggests thinning it with lacquer thinner.

I've been asking that for over 20 years! They will eventually. Then the question will be. Anarchy? Civil War? Chaos… The sheep are asleep... for now. Hey what a great bumper sticker. However, I never intended this to be a political debate. Back to Eleanor.
