  1. Excellent videos dwc - who is that complete nutter riding in the bed of the dodge van? As for the Modelking HUG, nice kit, but it needs quite a bit of remedial work to get it anywhere near accurate! Mind you, that's half the fun though! The Slixx decals sure help! HUG Build Bob
  2. Jeez thats a fine model Chuck! And on vacation too! Cant begin to imagine the hell broke loose if I tried that on whilst on holiday!! Excellent paint too! Also the general trick I believe is to paint/spray the chrome with flat or semi-flat clear. Bob
  3. Finished it up last night Masking was a total killer, but I think was worth it in the end. Humbrol acrylics all round, black, yellow, red and gold!! Bob
  4. I needed intake ducting for my Warbucks Mustang. I racked my brains and then recalled an old tip from years ago - from where I cannot recall - I came up with this: It makes use of Revell's Contacta Liquid Special. I had a bottle given to me and decided I would find a use for it! Well - its good for gluing in small chrome parts and clear parts to painted surfaces - winscreens, lenses, wing mirrors etc. its a bit like Microscale's Kristal Klear and Humbrols Clearfix. You could probably use either of these or even just some good old PVA glue. First I took some fine plastic coated wire approx 0.5mm (20 thou)dia. and wrapped it round some 3.2mm ali tube, anchoring it with some tape at each end. I used wire wrap wire: If you can't get hold of it the scale ignition wire sold by the like of Detailmaster and others is identical (another tip there!) Then I painted on a fairly liberal coat of Contacta and let it dry (approx 1hr). Then I removed the tape and pushed the spiral off the end of the tube. At this point it may stick, the four I made came off OK after a bit of pushing, but I can imagine it being a problem, so maybe a little wax on the ali tube before wrapping on the wire might be a good idea! At this point the "tube" is still floppy but quite firm in cross section. If handled carefully it can be "moulded to fit" around the engine bay. After some time it becomes more rigid, but still remains somewhat flexible. Here it is mated up to the little airboxes that mount on the carbs Paint it to suit! Should work for larger radiator hoses and brake cooling ducts etc. Bob
  5. Welcome home Marcus. Looking forward to your builds. Bob
  6. Happy new year from the UK! Brand new year, brand new President! All the best!! Bob
  7. Totally cool build - you've captured it perfectly! Bob
  8. Thanks guys! Not much progress and probably not much for the next few days. Hit by mega flu and extremely sore cough! Sympathy please!! Bob
  9. Gonna try for a quick build here. Inspired by Barry Price's brilliant multi-engined creations. i jammed together two AMT Garlits Wynns Chargers. Gonna be injected rather than blown. Tyres are from AMT's Street Freak Mustang. Gave them a good sanding down in the power drill. Sidewall profile a lot more realistic plus a smidgen of crown on the tyre. Scratchbuilt the injector intakes. Just in the process of forming the throttle linkages. Not gonna go too heavy on the detail, wanna make this a quick one. Made the chop here! Gonna have some gussets reinforcing these joints! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v718/bob...sislayup006.jpg Got plans for this front end which may include the Corvair engine from AMT's Parts Pack! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v718/bob...sislayup013.jpg Rear end, clutch can and motor plates fitted and frame painted semi-gloss black! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v718/bob...estbuild003.jpg Main engine components being pulled together. Scratchbuiding the injector manifolds http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v718/bob...estbuild008.jpg Bit of a mock up! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v718/bob...estbuild009.jpg I'll keep ya posted Bob
  10. Good point Harry. Many of these cars had tow bars fitted. I've built a few ss/s & A/FXers and still managed to forget some of em. I use the shutters from old 3.5" floppy drives as a cheap good source of thin aluminium sheet. Everybody must have a few old floppies hanging around! Just as a seperate point - not heard of B/NSS before, what class was that? Bob
  11. That's sure modelling at the sharp end! Bob
  12. I like that a lot, I can see Undertaker, 22jr. and Attempt 1 in there! but is there a bit of Mooneyes dragster in there too! I've Kitbashed a few 22Jrs before now, but never once thought of putting a cowl over the rollhoop - inspired! Bob
  13. Lovely T-bolt - excellent foiling particularly that side spear and doing that infill - excellent stuff. Nice attention to detail - aliminium front bumper, steelie rears and mag fronts - just perfect. Bob
  14. Coolio George S'okay got my info from you "yanks" in the first place! Actually not all the A/Fx mustangs were "works" cars. Some were owner built too - particularly the ones that came slightly later. Plus even 1 or 2 of the Holman Moody cars were put together with 427 wedges rather than the SOHC! This book is an absolute must for fans of the era:- . Oh and Walter Frey (6bblbird) without whom etc.etc. Speaking of which where he be these days? Bob
  15. The rears are from The Parts Box - from the land down under. The Parts Box The A simply referred to the weight/hp class break. There were B/FX, C/FX, D/FX classes too The FX rules back in 64/65 were actually quite severe and wheelbase altering was limited to a maximum of 2%. The AWB cars came the following year, but were declared illegal by NHRA. Most of them competed in Match races (were the money was) Some drivers/teams had altered and non-altered wheelbase cars running in parallel. Yeah Holman & Moody built 10 or 11 of these monsters for selected racers based on a Dearborn Steel Tubing prototype commisioned through the back door by Ford. Check this out 65 Mustang A/FX Bob
  16. Hi guys Thanks for the kindness's's's Yeah the Holman - Moody built 65 mustang AFX's had their shock towers removed to make way for the humungeous rocker covers that the SOHC had. Their solution (and mine). They gutted the suspension removing the font sway bar also, then mounted 2 ply "twisted" leaf springs going from the lower radiator mounts and attaching into clamp blocks located on the lower "A" arms, thus:- + nice shot through side window Cheers Bob
  17. Cheers guys! PF......The breather caps I knocked up myself unfortunately. I sat unfortunately as I now no longer have access to a lathe! Bummer! I do believe that there are several aftermarket suppliers who make similar caps however. Bob
  18. Nearly complete - got the induction ducts to fathom out, not sure how I'm doing it yet! Got the hood to paint (always seem to be doing them last). Quite happy with the results - had to strip the paint, had the worst case of orange peel I've ever had. Warmed up the paint, the plastic and the shed! but it still did it. Better second time round though! Bob
  19. Yeah I've just placed an order for the AMT stevens kit. Gonna tie the Allison up with an extended Mooneyes frame and an old 27T body - should be a hoot! Whats the story with these parts packs? I've bought what seems to be the same engine kits from Revell and AMT. Did the moulds go back and forth at some point, or are they in fact seperate moulds. Bob
  20. Looks super clean! - also a 101 on engine plumbing too! cant wait to see the rest bob
  21. Bingo! on the "other" forum Bob
  22. Try and get a hold of a Book Entitled "SuperStock - Drag Racing the Family Sedan", by Larry Davis - it's cram full of pictures and facts covering Stock, SuperStock, A/FX over that entire period. It will answer a ton of questions and is a ###### fine read to boot! Failing that you need to have a word with Walt Frey (6bblbird) who posts on here, who is the font of all knowledge on these early drag matters. He has helped me out a couple of times before now. The book:- Superstock - Drag racing the Family Sedan Regarding specifics in SS there was very liitle you could do regarding the interior. Certainly as time went on rules were relaxed a bit, but it is a bit of a minefield. You could render the model in matchrace mode were indivdual track owners set the rules!! Bob
  23. I love these T-Bolts, both you guys do awesome paint! Daniel you mentioned PE scripts - I've not come across any for the T-Bolt before - you wouldn't know where from wouldya! Cheers Bob
  24. Super cool - I can just picture the flagman up front!....... Getting outta the way!! Great looking rail Bob
  25. Looks just perfect - I like the way it sits down on the rear slicks, instead of jacked up in the air - on the money! Excellent model! Bob
