Finished pics - the sun came out briefly the other day in the UK so took the opportunity to take a few pics. Quite happy with end result - beleive me the camera is being very kind here! Things I learnt along the way: 1. Never under any circumstances ever ever ever use enamels again! Still tacky afeter 5 weeks - soft as cr*p. Even gentle handling would leave fingerprints in the paint, the only good thing being the paint was so soft I copuld polish them out! 2. There is no substitute for BMF, it was easier to apply than I thought it would be 3. I miss tamiya spraycans Bob

What a fun build! I bet a fun car to try getting down the strip too!! Love it Bob

Yeah - got a fair bit done recently. Body almost finished. Chassis done and dusted. just finishing up the interior (which are my least successful areas normally - so i often leave them until last - as I hate 'em!!). First proper BMF job, and it went better than I probably expected. I was bricking it when it came to running the no.11 around the door trim etc, but it came out pretty OK. I think I'm a fan of the " one big sheet per windw, trim and discard the entire centre bit ", school of thought. rather than the four seperate strips of foil method which I found difficult. I practiced first on an old body. Pics show decals on but no windows yet. may notice that there is no decal above front wheel arches, that s cus when I tried to apply - instant decal disintegration. The rest got a couple of fine clear coats to hold them together! and went on OK! Remade me own decal for the front so its OK now. Front wheels came out well. Cut out the centres from some Competition Resin American mags and set them in some self- turned rims. But then I went and forgot a valve stem - durrr! Since pic the windows gave gone in as has font and rear metalwork. Finished pics in a week or so i guess. Bob

Another addition to my Stock/Superstock/AFX stable. The plan is to construct a timeline from 1960/61 and finishing 68/69 with the advent of the fliptop funnies. This is 1964! (I'm not doing them in order!) Pretty much box stock, but with engine bay plumbing added. With this in mind I seperated the inner fenderwalls/firewall from the body moulding and sprayed it together with the rest of the chassis. I like doing this because it means I can detail the engine and fenderwalls/firewall together without the body being in the way, and it eliminates the need to mask off the body in order to paint the fenderwalls/firewall. Extended the rear shackles (actual Shackles not on yet!) as the rear end din't appear to sit high enough (I love mock-ups). Engine done - will need a few wires and such added when the fenderwalls go on i'll keep you posted! Bob

Looking real fine - I built this one a couple of years ago, and it was a pleasure to build, no surprises went together well. Nice engine detail I like how youv'e made the front end removeable - I never thought of that! Bob

How is it going with this one doc? Didja manage to sort out your Fotki? I only ask as being on a bit of a SS/S , A/FX kick at the moment I picked up the Warbucks version of this kit, and as I'm halfway through the Revell Tasca Thunderbolt you cant help noticing the difference in detail between the Revell and the AMT kits. I.e. the Thunderbolt has some. Its a good little SOHC in the AMT kit, and the body is good , but as for the rest(?). I'm thinking it would be a good idea to get a good donor kit for the firewall/inner fender areas and some of the interior at least. And as for the chassis....I know the original Street Freak kit was of its time!! Anyone any suggestions for a suitable '65 Mustang kit with reasonable mechanicals? Bob Oh yes I managed to pick up the Thunderbolt DVD Raul and the "Superstock - Drag racing the Family Sedan@ book too! Muscle Heaven... oh that dosen't sound right does it?

Nice start Raul, got one of these on the way too, hopefully The brit Post office will have done its job and delivered to the wrong address again! Gonna be probably box stock with a bit of detailing. Bob

On a bit of a S/S, A/Fx kick at the moment, learnt a lot from this one! Decals home made, but a little on the thick side. Put too much clear poly sealer on em I think. Scratchbuilt thr radiator and wall and firewall too, and all the engine compartment accessories. Next up is either Bill Lawtons Thunderbolt or Dave Stricklers 62 Bel air. Thats 4 models in 12 months I've actually finished!! WoooHoooo! Bob

Got the body colour on now - arctic white - and foiled around the windows, a first time for me! Tried using the foil from a Kit Kat but ran into problems T'was OK where I didnt need to trim it, but when i did I found that the actual foil kept tearing in smaller and smaller pieces so that removing unwanted foil was a nightmare! Resorted to the ali tape stuff, which was much easier. Put three gloss coats on then foiled the window trim. Applied my decals made from scanned copies of the '62 Bel air decals, but in the correct colours for the '63. Also recoloured the '62 decals to the correct blue/green aqua colour. A few decals still to do yet. The yellow decals have to have a black version overlapped on to them. Side spears need trimming back to door line and then extending fully forward to the end of the moulded trim (its too short at the mo). Also the two little spears on the front fenders are too short and thick - have to redo. Engine bay to wire too! But not far off! Bob

Makes You Want To Build Something Different!

God Those pictures are absolutely beautiful!. The look so serene. It must be so unreal just hanging there, no great sense of speed , just suspended in orbit. The sense of vertigo must be enormous. Like you could just drop at any monemt. Stunning stuff. Yeah I know what you mean about something else, I've had my eye out for a good apollo moonlanding kit, you know the one with the moon landing dio! Was it A Monogram kit. Bob -
Harry Inspiring. Truly inspiring. I'm gonna print one of those pics out and pin it over where I model, and when I get the modelling inspiration blues, I'll just look at it. I've always wanted to build a big scale. Did LIndberg stop at this or did they do other big scale dragsters? Hey flame... how about combining one of these with a big 32 Duece? Awesome Bob

Further to the foil from chocolate bars thing - I can recommend Kit Kats (I think Hersheys sell em in the US) Occasional limited edition(!) Kit Kats with Gold foil. Really thin foil. Spray the back side with 3M Spraymount and apply!. Only used it a little on touch ups (moulding marks on bumpers etc , but gonna be using it all over my Strickler Impala soonish. I'll post up the results good or bad! Bob

Has Anyone Ever Got Pneumonia
bobcrozier replied to stanleymsn's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I had Lobar Pnuemonia years back, which isn't as bad as only one lung is affected, but it laid me flat for three weeks. Look after yourself mate and not too many late nights you hear! Here in the UK its known as Man Flu!! Bob -
Love the attitude of this. You wouldn't wanna stand in its way! I'd love to try one of these. Is that Allison engine still available? I know theres the Model King '69 Thunderbird F/C out now, but am I right in thinking that the engine was once available seperately? Bob
-
No the entire body is! I'm using the AMT '63 Impala SS. Typical AMT kit of the era - moulded in rear axle exhaust etc. Carved out the entire rear end and fitted a pontiac rear end in. Common mod I believe in those SS days. Dont know how it would have passed tech inspection would it have been allowed!. Replaced the floor pans scrapped the moulded in exhaust. It would have been easier to sctachbuild the entire chassis! I was left with just the X-frame and the front rails! Bob

Cheers Raul Yeah i've got the 62 Bel air but Im modding the AMT 63 IMpala engine to match. What a shapeless lump that is, but i'm knocking into shape. I;ve got a few ref pics, but would certainly welcome a few more. I'll return the favour if I've got any you dont. Few more piccies: Sump extended, hi rise manifold from '62 kit as is cowl induction air cleaner. Block painted black in the Bill jenkins style. Cheers mate And ron! Bob

Hi all, New to this forum, looks pretty lively, so here goes. Mainly build drag or hotrod subjects but have been known to make other stuff as well Currently putting together a 63 Impala. Dave Strickler's in fact. Don't know if i'm posting pics correctly yet so just post these two first. Posted the first pic of actual car just to prove that it did run as an A/FX as well as SS (thats how I'm gonna be doing it. Bob
