Great looking hobby room! Based on experience. I recommend packing and transporting models in any stage of build by yourself, and transporting them in your own vehicle. I learned that the hard way.......................................................😆

Paul...great advice to anyone moving a collection. I did just that. 18 trips with my Subaru Outback (36mi each) Car held a lot of stuff but then I had a lot to move. There were some casaulties along the way but they are all fixed now and I am back in production.

  2. Tom...I can certainly identify with this post.  I moved back in December to a newer house.  60yrs worth of accumulation, 11 display cabinets, 3 different workbenches and thousands of delicate models. It was not without its pain.  Unlike you my house had been completely renovated but I still had to fit all my stuff into a new location.  It took a month and a half just for the model room but I am all done and back to modeling.  Luv your work area.  Well lit, organized and comfortable looking.  You will be back creating masterpieces now.

  3. Louis...I have built more than a few 1/16 kits from various manufacturers...mostly early Japanese. I can agree with you whole heartedly that they can be a real challenge to anyones modeling skills.  But you have risen to that and created a beautiful model.  I like it.  Its a fact.....the more creative swear words you use .....the better the model turns out. Keep up the good work.

  4. Seth...I am amazed  that you  taped over the decals in the first place. I know it can be done if there is enough clear on them and they have cured for at least a week. But I have never  had a whole lot of luck masking over decals with ANY tape  except...one.    Parafilm.  Its a stretchy parafin based film that will adhere to glossy surfaces with the heat of your hands.  It doesn't have a lot of adhesion and has to be pressed down in any areas you really want it to stick.  Takes some practice to use it but it will do a lot of delicate, intricate masking especially over compound surfaces. Its compatible with most hobby finishes if you use light coats with the airbrush.  Hot paints and heavy coats will melt it into a gooey mess.  Its primary use is to cover petri dishes in medical labs as it forms an airtight seal on glass. Available in small and large quantities on Ebay.  My daughter worked in a lab and gave me a roll 25yrs ago....I'm still using it. It goes a long way. LMK if you need more info.

  5. V-E-R-Y cool collection Phil.  And nice job on all the on all the models.  Got to meet Dan (for about 30seconds)  at one of my model shows. Despite the fact he had about 10 people trying to pull him in all directions he was very gracious and liked my display.  I can see why you would be a fan.

  6. Now that is what I call purple.  That finish is quite dazzeling. I have used those color shift finishes and they are difficult to get right, but you have nailed this one Rex. Sometimes the quick builds turn out the best.

Very nice model, Rich - I was thinking the same as Gary (NO race car this time?) but I now remember other non-racers from you,  f. e. the Jaguar E's and some more...

Thank you Helmut....actually I am a fairly well rounded modeler.   I started way back with military and aircraft. Then discovered cars. But along the way have done dioramas , minatures, casting , rockets and sci-fi. In my 60yrs I have aquired a lot of skills but am always willing to learn more.  Anything concerning models has always facinated me.

  8. Thanks for the kind words Michael.  As far as other kits Meng could do....I dunno...I can imagine a lot.  Some of the early Lamborghini's,  Maserati's and Ferrari's are just begging to have decent models  made in 1/24.  Too often the major model companies copy each other with the same kit hoping to cash in on sales.  When we want variety it doesn't do us too much good to have just more of the same.

Thanks Rich.  The wheels were in the kit and pictures I found indicate they were optional ones with a unique GTS center cap.  I had originally painted the kit a standard Testors green but it just did not pop like the non-factory grabber green.

Rex...thanks for the extra pictures and the explanation. Those wheels really are sharp. An interesting story for you. One year we camped at the Watkins Glen Vintage and found ourselves   in  the middle of the Pantera Club of the USA. There were about 30 members there and just as many cars.  The cars were awesome. Those guys were very cool and we partied with them well into the night.  I asked the president of the club an interesting question, If I owned a Mangusta could I get in their club. The answer was ...sure...but I would be the only one. Later the next day I spotted two Mangustas and one of them was for sale. Alas...it was way out of my budget. Got a pic of one of them somewhere.
