  1. very nice detail. Great build.
  2. Nice rig, I like all the smooth round corners. I have always said the only dumb question is the one you did not ask so I am gonna ask. What is a Hoosier pole and how is it used? Thanks
  3. Ben, That would be awesome if you could put me in touch with this guy. Another option might be to do the entire cab shell out of photo etch. I may be back home in central Texas for a short visit later this month maybe we can get together and swap stories and ideas. Gary
  4. The picture on the right above reflects the average contents of one package. I paid about 9.99 a package for mine. I am sure you can get them cheaper if you shop around. I have a couple of projects stalled for these details. I used to use real brass bolts and washers from the train shops. Those have gotten to be 90 cents each so they are off my list unless absolutely necessary.
  5. Gents, Today I picked up my order form the local hobby shop and boy am I happy. For scratch builders and super detailers Meng has released several sets of nut, bolt and washer castings in styrene. http://www.scalehobbyist.com/catagories/browse.php?pg=1&ppp=48&sb=price&so=a&e=0&kw=MGK The sets are: SPS-004 Set A Large which contains 1.8mm, 2.2mm and 2.6mm Nuts and bolts with out washers. One side is the bolt head the other side is the nut with the end of the bolt sticking through. SPS-005 Set A Small which contains 0.8mm, 1mm and 1.4mm Nuts and bolts no washer same as above SPS-006 Set B Large which contains 1.8mm, 2.2mm and 2.6mm nuts, bolts and washers SPS-007 Set B Small which contains 0.8mm, 1mm and 1.4mm nuts, bolts and washers SPS-008 Set C which contains 1.3mm, 1.5mm and 1.7mm socket type bolt heads and hex nuts with recessed bolts SPS-009 Set D which contains 1.3mm, 1.5mm and 1.7mm Acorn nuts similar to what many people are using for decoration on big rig wheels and Rivet heads.
  6. Can you be more specific? I do not see a 6.7 on the list . Who makes the resin engine you are referring to?
  7. Ben, Do you know anyone that does laser cutting? I would be willing to do drawings for laser cutting for the cab. I believe most modelers could build the chassis form scratch with a good set of drawings. I hope to have the drawings ready to post soon. I am working on an order for some of your 5 hole wheels for this build as well. Thanks to everyone for the favorable comments so far. Gary
  8. Gents, Now that we have this comprehensive engine list. Which kit engine is closest to the Cummins QSB5.9-155 HP engine and what would I do to replicate it. This is the engine i need for my yard goat project. Thanks
  9. In case you have not found a better solution for tinting you windows here is something that I have used with great success. Mix a little black or red or green whatever color you like with future floor wax. Dust it on form the inside with your airbrush. You can build up as many coats as you need. Practice on spare windshield. If you don't like the result drop it in Windex rinse it off and start over. Once you master this you will be a very happy camper. Believe it or not you can also get great results with food coloring in Future. Gary Before anyone asks. No, I do not work for Johnson and Johnson
  10. Your poll leaves out one critical piece of data,, What production year?
  11. You can do some simple calculations to determine the volume of each tank by measuring the length and height to determine the cubic foot volume.do a Google search for the volume of a cylinder and there will be sites where you can fill in the dimensions and it will do the calcs for you. 1 cubic foot equals 7.48 ( call it 7.5 Gallons). Remember if you read the factory specs fuel tanks are a only supposed to be filled to 80% to allow for expansion.
  12. I found this on the internet. It is a right hand drive version. Dimensions are there and readable. Just put it in a photo editor and flip it left to right. Capacity TJ7000 RHD.pdf
  13. I found those photos and was searching for more information on the internet when I found the photo that started this build. So in a round about way you are responsible for this build. The Capacity tractor will probably be my next build. I like yard tractors because i am not a fan of fancy paint schemes, chrome or sleepers. I added a PDF file to your reference page today of a TJ-7000 Right Hand Drive. The dimensions are there so it should be build able. When I have time I will redraw this and convert it to left hand drive. Gary
  14. Gents, To make it easier for everyone I have moved this topic to the On the Workbench forum where it belongs. I posted a small update today. Thanks for your interest.
  15. Gents, Just a little update the last few days. I got the fifth wheel and the front axle mounted. As I was mounting the front axle I realized the rear spring hangers were on backwards. I also discovered that my rear slope plate was mounted too high to let the fifth wheel set between the rub rails. While I was there I added the light bezels for the stop lights and the back up light. Even though I found some illustrations I am finding that maintenance manual drawings are not drawn to scale. Some of my original extrapolations were way wrong. For the most part I am using SWAG and TLAR as my guidelines. For you younger folks that would be Scientific Wild Ass Guess and That Looks About Right. If anyone wants to see the construction sequence of any part let me know. I started modeling as a free flight stick and tissue airplane builder. I draw a plan and build on top of it or cut it up and make templates. This project is still developing.
  16. William, Very nice job on this trailer. Did you use Midwest scale lumber?, if so can you tell us the sizes and what you used for a stain? Thanks Gary
  17. Nice work on that fender. How much did you widen it?
  18. Gents, I posted this in Truck Stop as well. I have created a Flikr build file so I can include more content let me know if there is anything you want to see specifically. I will do my best to show all phases and any details you ask for. http://www.flickr.com/photos/115024256@N07/sets/72157639977577436/ Just added today's progress photo almost ready for Suspension and Fifth wheel. Aloha Gary
  19. Gents, I created a build file on Flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/115024256@N07/sets/72157639977577436/ I just added todays progress photos. Almost ready for Suspension and Fifth wheel. Hopefully this way I can add more content as I build. Gary
  20. Gents, If you look in the on the work bench forum under the title Scratch built yard goat you will see some in progress photos and a diagram I found in the service manuals. I have done some more work and will be posting more photo tomorrow. I am trying to figure out the best way to share my build drawings as well as the research material I have accumulated for this build. Please let me know what you think. The model is in fabrication stages right now there are lots of details to clean up . Aloha Gary
  21. I do buy form Micro Mark from time to time. I have lots of tools form them and I am very happy with them. They are not cheap but you get what you pay for. They have lots of items that are actually form the jewelry industry. There are good tools and there are cheap tools but there are no good cheap tools. I have purchased items form Harbor freight that looked the same but the quality was not the same. I will say I have bought items form Harbor Freight and been pleasantly surprised but that is rare.
  22. To be honest I do not remember why I stopped working on this. Most likely I got busy with work and family and put it away and forgot about it. I keep my projects in plastic shoe boxes stored in cabinets to keep my room neat. Sometimes I just loose interest because I found a new interest. Could be I made as mistake and did not feel like fixing it. Sometimes I will star a project because some asks me how to do it and a build it to show them how, I have lots of those. I probably have 30 or more projects in various stages of construction. I like starting new projects but I never seem to finish any. After all once you finish there is nothing to do but look at it.
  23. I should have posted these years ago and then put it away. I need to finish it. This is my own design. Enjoy
  24. There was an article in Car Modeler Magazine back in May of 94 about building ramp trucks. I have the article scanned. If you want a copy send me an email. Gary
  25. Just a little progress this week. The boom is assembled and the lift cylinders are fabricated. All cross Pins are still untrimmed and the lift cylinders need lines and some trimming. Let me know what you think. if there is any interest I will post my line drawings. Gary
