  1. <sigh…> Your right, it just may be that simple. Why bother, who would notice?
  2. OK…. another update, but on the `70 this time. I have all the engine pieces painted. I just have to detail and assemble, the fun part for me. Aside from the obvious missing pieces, I plan on adding ignition, fuel, alternator, engine harness wiring, clutch & transmission linkage. Stealing more ideas by not painting the interior panels white. Here you can see the engine compartment painted that subtle shade….. Aside from the already mentioned shortcomings, this is still a NICE kit. Most of the issues can be remedied. As soon as I finish this one I'll be looking for reference material for the S&M car. When does that come out? Thats it for now. Nap time, I'm headed into Manhattan tonight with the boys for dinner & a concert.
  3. OK … updates on the "Quick Build" Today we spent the better part of a dreary Saturday morning trying not to destroy the marginal paint job I applied. Believe me, it looks much better in photographs….. and the bare metal was trying to lift the clear in some spots. I fought with it until I was tired and hungry and managed to make it presentable. But remember - Experience: this is where it comes from, our mistakes. On with todays updates. If I wasn't so busy this weekend I'd probably have it done. Let's see how things roll…. I still have to install the headlight buckets, but here's the modified grilles. The foiling is done. The rear window was split into pieces as on the actual car. The overlapping edges look realistic. I have to work on making this overlap more pronounced as on a real car it does NOT have one continuous piece of trim. I did the front windshield one piece and the rear looks better. I also foiled and painted/detailed the rear trunk lid trim. This was a major league PIA! It's the worst aspect of the build and I now know what NOT to do. Again…. experience. All you young/new builders pay attention. There's good and bad side by side on this build. We (hopefully….) learn from every build. Here's a shot or two of those Keith Marks decals. They are thin. I mean so thin theres only one side….. BE CAREFUL! Use one that has an extra on the sheet for your first attempt. He thoughtfully includes extra graphics, thank you very much. Just have to cut glass, install it and the headlights, mount bumpers, and stuff it all together. It's getting there…..
  4. Good for you & your Wife for taking her in. Animals are proven stress relievers and therapeutic. Enjoy your new relationship!
  5. I know… I know…. but the point is: In the `60's Revelll would cast engine blocks with cranks and realistic representations of pistons in various stroke depths in the bores. Details 99% of viewers after assembly never saw either, but they got it "right". I just find it puzzling that such obvious "non-interpetable" details are gotten wrong 50 years later. Distributor terminal count, carb. barrel layout, exaggerated wheel lips, etc. To me, this all shouldn't be noticeable after the consumer pulls off the shrink-wrap. You mean to tell me, there isn't ONE car-guy in the entire process that does't see these things before the the guys in the suits yeah-yeah it into production? Or do the suits brush them off? The distributor is the biggest detail that speaks the loudest, as least to me. It can't ALL be the corporate "get it out and make money" mindset. Doesn't anyone see this along the way? If the side marker lights were vertical would that be dismissed too? Just making some observations. I know that there are people here way-more connected to this project than me, and I mean no disrespect, but remember I represent the guy your selling to. I still think it's a great kit, but why do these things get through? Just saying….
  6. Nope, don't remember the sellers name. He was there last year too…. I'll have to look around and get back to you.
  7. Last night Amy & myself went out to Blackthorn 51's on Queens Blvd. to see our friends band tears it up. Great night out….great show. Tonight I'm off to go see Stone Sour at Irving Plaza in Manhattan. This is Corey Taylor's project outside of Slipknot and they are probably one of THE best acts out there now. Hit YouTube and check out Bother or Say You'll Haunt Me. Nothing like Slipknot, but every bit as talented. Corey is an amazing vocalist….. Then tomorrow night we're off to The Paramont in Huntington Village on Long Island to see In This Moment & Butcher Babies, female fronted metal acts. I heard Butcher Babies stole the show at Mayhem Festival last summer, and I saw In This Moment open for Stone Sour last year. Tomorrow night we'll let the ladies do the damage. Man… is it possible to overdose on music? I'm gonna give it a shot!
  8. This is our little boy Buddy. He's a Rhodesian Ridgeback/German Shepherd mix. We rescued him from Sean Casey Animal Rescue in Brooklyn on Nov. 21, 2010. He was approx. 10 months old & 65 lbs. when he came home. He just turned 4 and has filled out to 110lbs. No squirrel dares sets foot in our yard. He has one confirmed kill so far….. I never have to worry about leaving my Wife at home alone. He is so loving and gentle with family & friends. He also likes to play rough. The Shepherd bite is second only to a Rottweiler, and believe it or not, Pit Bulls are third. Great watchdog. But never mind his bite…. he'll drop you from 100 yards!
  9. Not that I memorized every point made in over 650 posts, but why are the throttle bores splayed 45 degrees off in those horrible carbs? They have a single barrel front & rear w/ 2 on the center sides! Thank goodness the shaker will cover that lump.
  10. Had them for that long? I'd try and squeeze in 2 a weekend.
  11. The color on my car L1 Surf Turquoise Metallic, and it was a one-year only color. I'm including a file with the `69 paint chart. http://www.moparts.org/Tech/Archive/paint/1.html
  12. I love when new venues emerge for model builders to enjoy. Pinewood Derby w/ model cars. What took so long for an obviously good idea to surface? Welcome to the forum. I'm sure you'll take something with you from all the talent on here.
  13. I always liked the box art car. Maybe a nice deep blue with a white interior? Go traditional, Plum Crazy or Sublime rarely look good on the older body styles. I knew a guy years ago that had a Maroon `66 with a black interior. Just never popped…. always blended into the background. I think a white interior is key. Especially with the full length center console and 4 bucket seat arrangement. Or maybe go black on top, smoked windows, and white from the top of the fenders down….. 17" & 19" rims. <sigh….> I have one of these in the house. Thanks for getting me thinking about another "Quick Build".
  14. Good Lord…. I've been foiling and cutting and spraying and sealing and getting cross-eyed and now I'm tired & hungry…... We do this why? ⚠
  15. We ALL can't wait for the finished product.
  16. Oh, BTW: I scored at my LHS with the ignition wire. Time to do the Hemi….
  17. Pro Tech doesn't do on-line ordering?!? I have to WRITE what I want and send a…a….check ? I haven't written a check in AGES! Wow. Old school is Cool. Order going out as soon as I print the form…. Thanks Al!
  18. Thanks gang…. more to follow later, foiling & decals today.
  19. Just had a surprise: I have no black ignition wire! I might get lucky at my LHS (they have LIMITED detail master stuff…) and score some today. If not, who do you guys use for on-line supplies? If I'm placing an order, I'll stock up. I usually buy my materials at NNL East, but I'm hoping to display finished models in April! Thanks gang….
  20. …..and I was going to make a wise-a** comment about pro-touring one.
  21. Sorry for the long time between updates, but I haven't had the time recently….. Being I'm off today I got some time at the bench this morning. An empty, quiet house works wonders! Engine is painted, now to detail. The chassis is painted too. We're getting there! After I run a few errands I'm going to finish foiling the `68. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WOW! What ^%$#$%^ pictures! I'll try & do better next update!
  22. That's where the term came from. "Pony Cars" were Camaro's, Barracuda's, and…. the originator: the Mustang. Fast Fins? Predators? Vicious? No good way to positively market a nasty fish unfortunately. BTW: My Wife uses a coffee mug with this image on it at work. Great conversation starter….
  23. And I joke about gaining back 115lbs. in one-shot when I got married 11 yrs. ago!
  24. Yes, true. And I know the whole "Pony Car" title is derived from the initial success of the Mustang. But an anniversary is still an anniversary. GTO included…. I just wonder what monicker would have been coined if the Barracuda was more successful than Mustang. Would the "Pony Car" have been called……?
  25. He-He-He…. Remember when Bob joined the forum because his Wife bought him ONE model kit? I think he's building an annex onto his place it's grown so much so fast! Welcome (back) to the hobby Dale. This forum is loaded with talent, the manufacturers are giving us what we want, and the aftermarket is supporting the hobby LIGHT YEARS past what we dreamed of as kids! I too grew up with models, HO cars, slot cars, etc. and now I'm 55 and am having the best time building now. I'm just getting back into it after a 10 yr. hiatus and I too do it for the relaxation and therapy of sitting alone, creating with your hands, and making something. No better feeling. Well, maybe there is…. but that's for another forum.
