My "Class of 2013 that I haven't given away or scrapped"
FASTBACK340 replied to Shelby 427 1965's topic in Model Cars
I like the R34 and Subie too! -
I like the Buick best also…. sharp interior and color choices.
-
The rough-looking Cougar is cool, but the Gasser is my favorite.
-
Wow…. nice paint skills! Nice, clean builds with some nice colors laid on nicely. Nice….
-
OK….. really bad pictures done with my phone while holding the part standing in the basement in bad lighting. But the point is we got the interior, wheels, and chassis painted. Now I'm off to a New Years Eve BBQ to overdose on all the stuff I stay away from normally…… Back to the workbench tomorrow.

OK…. the seat pattern is going to make me taste some single malt Scotch WAY EARLY on New Years Eve! I was getting cross-eyed and had to do something else. So I decided to set ride height. I'm finishing that ^%$# seat before dinner as I want to paint the interior & chassis tonight and maybe prime the body tomorrow and start blocking it out. I'm so loving this build……. ?

Obviously I'm in agreement as it really is a landmark version. The first generation Barracuda's were actually an option package on the Valiant, and are badged as both. The second generation was built with the plan of accommodating everything in the Chrysler engine family, a big plus. 383's and the 440 made it into these cars from the factory. Then if you break it down further, the `67 & `69 shared certain styling cues (egg crate grilles….reverse lights mounted on rear valance….) making the `68 a unique body variant. Throw in the fact that it was technically the first year for the Hemi Cuda and you can see why I'm an owner and lover of this particular year. To this day NHRA still has the Hemi Super Stock shoot-out at the Indy Nationals featuring the Hemi Darts & Cuda's. Nothing special, huh? The third generation became a Camaro-chaser and it cashed-in for Chrysler Corp. Now in 2015 something new is possibly going on sale from Chrysler with the name Barracuda on it. <fingers crossed> We'll see.

I lost the entire evening last night….. I'm feeling a bit run-down and I fell asleep in the recliner early last night. Not feeling much better today. I'm going to go after that seat now. Hopefully in the next update we'll see colors here-n-there…. I see the page is getting views and I appreciate the interest. I'm trying some ideas and it is taking a bit longer, but the detours will save me time when I do the full detail version in the future. Fabricating most of the grilles and headlights, removing cast-in details and installing late-issue kit chrome door handles and wipers. Adding or deepening panel lines. Re-scribing trim & moldings. I see so many mega-detail builds of common cars I wanted to do a nice 1968 Barracuda and I'm giving it a good try. To be continued...

I ordered 2 sets of reproduction plates for my car and they arrived within a week. And they are beautiful and very reasonable. Bestmodelcarparts.com

Shelby Movie? Let the nightmare begin!
FASTBACK340 replied to Daddyfink's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Almost agree. Pulp Fiction is awesome….. -
I'm in a project with a resin body and interior parts, from two different manufacturers. The body reacts exactly like plastic, the interior pieces are brittle. I had to glue in a reinforcement brace while working with the interior parts. If the body is a nice casting, cutting glass is no big deal. If it's a lump, your work is cut out. No pun intended…..

I just bought 2 sets of reproduction license plates for my build. These are really nice! BESTMODELCARPARTS.COM I'm off the next 2 days. Hopefully I'll have the seat pattern done shortly and I can start….. PAINT. ?

OK. This has to be THE most tedious stuff I've done in a while. Changing the upholstery pattern is almost as challenging as starting a fire underwater. I started with a Harts Parts resin Mopar bench seat. It's apparently for a later model and possibly a B body, but you run with what ya got. It does have the correct headrest, which are not installed yet. I also made the rear cargo deck. I also fabricated a pistol grip shifter, and have a billet tach for the dash. Once I finish adding the pattern to the seat we set ride height and start priming stuff. This has been a blast! ?

Thanks Larry! The 1:1 I affectionately call my Metal Mistress. And the Wife is cool with it…. Back to the build: Like I mentioned, I drilled and pinned all my exterior trim. All emblems, scripts, and badges are being done with Keith Marks `68 Barracuda decal set. Here's a shot of the wipers, mirrors, and door handle mounted. All the trim shown is from the Lindberg `64 Belvedere. Fortunately all Mopar door handles and mirrors are similar, so the B body stuff works on my A body. And for you Mopar guys watching the details, yes, the door handle buttons will be black….. ?

I grab all the beat-up trim & grilles I can get my hands on. I'm teaching myself trim restoration. Here you can see it's only going in a few fractions…... With the excess hanging out the front The grille shells are done on the drivers side, the passenger side still needs a trim. Now i'm drilling & pinning all the mirrors, handles, and wiper arms. It get's a good washing after I fiddle with the interior bucket and install the chassis and set ride height. Still have to do the bench seat. I guess that will be the next set of updates. Thanks for following along ! ?

I started this thread on Nov. 21 just after I actually did place an order. I replied to my original post when my order did indeed arrive. It was Dec. 16. Not quit 4 weeks. And that was leading into the Holiday season. Have in faith in Modelhaus. Now, as for the Postal Service all bets are off.

Another small update. Got the inner grille trim foiled and the background painted….. I then held it place and tried to visualize the inner surrounds done in .010 Evergreen instead of 3/16" of HORRIBLE-NESS of that stocker….. Now to glue in those shells. Let's see if I can ruin this body and break out a spare….. ?

Revell 1970 Plymouth 'Cuda - TorRed - Finished.

X2…. Nice build of what looks like an equally nice kit. Looking forward to doing mine. -
That IS a nice clean build! Great job! What's next?

OK…busy day. I shaded the inner grilles with a base coat of silver Sharpie over the bare resin (gave a realistic sheen..) it got a Detailer black-wash. I then mounted the missing outer trim for the inner grilles, which still have to be foiled. I also foiled the turn signals and filled the cavity with Model Master canopy adhesive (white glue…) for a clear lens appearance. And here's a quick l;ook at the brass headlight buckets after being foiled. The resin lenses are backed with a chrome & paint reflector Gotta take a break. I'll probably hit the bench again later tonight. This is looking so good I want to keep it going. ✌

The grilles on these cars are as rare as hen's teeth to find in mint condition. They're proving to be much easier to do in scale! First things first, remove the outer rim with that HORRIBLE thick lip. Then after shaving down the edge, I made a new inner grill trim ring This will be bare metal foiled Now about those under sized head lights…. A slice of some brass tube After all this is assembled I'll glue in the shells and trim them More to come….. ?

My best year I built 13 pieces, all full detail and contest-class level. Back then I had a build buddy whom would continuously keep me going with dares, bets, and him out building me. I'd get 3 cars in magazines and he'd have 2, the next year he'd have 5 and me none. Over the years of building together he helped me improve in order to keep up with him. In my opinion, it was (so far…) the best time I ever had in the hobby. My build-buddy, Dave Dickash, passed away about 8 yrs. ago. Some fellow modelers have made the observation my involvement with the then hobby died also. In many ways it did. I just went up to work on the Barracuda and went into my toolbox for clamps. When Dave passed his wife gave me most of his modeling supplies. Every time I see or use something of his it hits me in a weird way. Dang…. I miss that guy. Dave in his Steel `32 Sedan

Copying Reference Pictures out of Old Magazines
FASTBACK340 replied to Skip's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
FWIW: When I was moderator over at For A Bodies Only, a Mopar specific site, we had members post magazine articles and the publisher would contact us to pull down their material. Just be careful if you post it on-line. Copyright issues can be a pain when they pop up. A few years ago the authorities stormed (and I mean running over signs and scattering people, wearing SWAT masks!) Chryslers at Carlisle and handcuffed the aftermarket vendors working for Layson's Restorations over alleged non-copyrighted merchandise….. which was all dropped after court dates. And much public grief and slander over copyrights. -
That is really well done. Nice job on the fit & finish!
