I haven't built a kit like this for years and years. In fact back in the Testor's tube glue age, in a time before CA glues existed. But after reading through a lot of posts here I was inspired to give it a go. I chose the Wynn's Winder as a first subject because I have always liked FED's.
Not too sure about what I'm doing but having a lot of fun. My primary goal is to build straight, square and clean. This makes quite a change from my usual fair of tanks and planes where a lot can be hidden with a bit of weathering. With that in mind I plan to build as much as I can in sub assemblies so I can paint and decal simply.
Progress so far;
The body panels all fit together pretty well but needed a lot of block sanding to get a smooth finish and there is a fair bit of filling with CA glue on the nose. I would like to replace all the front end supports with wire as I can't see getting the thin plastic parts to look right. I'm scratching my head as to how to scratch a magneto as I can't see one provided in the kit which seems odd. While I'm not too fussed with being super accurate I do think that basic wiring is a must. I've read the decals are a touch brittle so I'm a little nervous about that and I have no idea what shade of yellow to use or even which paints to try as I have no great experience with high gloss finishes.
Thanks for looking in and if you have any advise it would be appreciated.
Now it's on to setting up that front end.
