To me the black kit is the best one but I'll settle for either ?

I have to wonder if the parts specific to the Street Rat/red version are lost and gone forever, as it's been 20+ years since it's been reissued, and the black version has been seen multiple times in that span.

Or not. Looks like a mix of parts from both versions, with new BFG tire decals.

I say, just round off the edge and roll it under. Just leave it as a styling line.

I had a friend years ago who was so into the smoothy look, he would sand off any and all details, styling cues and trim.

I would compare the look to a used bar of soap.

Yeah, unless the starting point is something highly sculpted and visually overly busy (looking at you '58 GM cars), you can only take the smoothing so far. Knowing when to stop isn't always easy, though.

The front valence is back in place and roughly blended...and mostly straight. The pickup and Suburban panels are not quite identical, but there's enough material present to make everything even in the end.

The two grilles I am (was?) considering below, but I think I want headlight lenses which are slightly more rectangular than these from the AMT '60 Chevy Street Machine kit. They are very close to what I am looking for, though, so I may end up using the lenses and buckets, and ditching the center area.

Not sure where the other grille is from...Chrysler Imperial custom, maybe? ?? It kind of has the right look, but is a bit too narrow once the surround is removed.

Even though it shares design and proportion attributes with the long running Revell 32 Ford series, I'm 99% sure it was confirmed by Ed Sexton to be all new tooling.

It was all-new. Brett Barrow(?) did a fairly detailed comparison of the frames, and while very similar, they are not "the same". Basically, same design/pattern work, but not identical to the earlier Deuce series.

  4. Try wrapping the wire around a machine screw to make the coil springs. That way, each coil will be equally spaced apart from the next one.

I would also suggest buying a razor saw (or two, they come in different tooth counts) and you'll get much better control while cutting.

Neat project, and good on you for turning three kits into one. ?

I like the styling line through the middle, it adds to the sense of motion and keeps it from looking too slab-sided.

Thanks. The reveal/shadow line was chosen for the very reason you mentioned, but it also necessitated widening the body by 3 mm. Doing so will allow me the use the box stock windshield, roof cap, and hood width.

Speaking of the hood, I got the rear edge nearly parallel to the cowl, then realized I will likely need to remove a millimeter or two to allow the front edge of the hood to sit further back. ? Still undecided how I am going to finish the leading edge of the hood and what the grille area will look like, but that will fall into place soon enough.

I did get the Fleetside pickup bed's wheel arches in place on both sides, and am pleased with how they look. The plastic from the pickup is significantly thinner than the same area on the Suburban, but a bit of plastic strip added to the backside should remedy that.

The design of the kits hood being in four parts make this an easy thing to do in the hood area.

I'm sure that was a major influence on my thinking, both times. It just seemed to make too much sense not to try it.

What are the plans for this project? ?

I'll share after I've decided upon anything further. Nothing too wild, really. I think European style rectangular headlights would work well on this truck, but I haven't even thought much about the front end yet.

  7. I tried something similar to this a few years ago, prior to Revell releasing the '66 Chevy Suburban, but nothing ever came of it. Now, with the aforementioned '66 Suburban, a '64 and two '66 Chevy Fleetsides on hand, things are starting to take shape. The tail end needs plenty of work, and the rear wheel arches will be replaced with those from a pickup bed, but so far, so good.

I don't think the Olds on ebay is the same as the OP.

No, it's not, and I think everyone understood the one on eBay was merely a suggestion of where to currently find one, accuracy be damned.

Did Dwayne ever cast what he showed? Did anyone here ever buy and receive one if so? He hasn't logged into the forum since January of 2020, so I doubt he will read this topic and provide an update.

A seller on the bay has all the pieces to build the car.

When the seller has more images of real cars, instead of detailed, in focus, close-up images of the actual product you are buying, well, you've been warned.

While the AMT '55 Bel Air Sedan is the best starting point, if you want a true forward tilting front end, there's a lot of work ahead no matter what you start with.

  10. The roll/light bar with two integral driving lights are for....? Surely not the ramp truck version:

Same question for the parts peeking out from under the ramp bed floor pieces in the below image. I haven't looked over any of the existing Moebius Ford pickup kits, so apologies if these are old news:

Be nice to see what shows up in the box. Are those newly tooled forward facing lights over the driver's head?

I think so. I don't think they were part of the ECTO-1 version. Not really sure what they are supposed to be, but someone here probably does.

Are those the '65 Chevelle Wagon Surfboards?

Yes. This should be the third kit to include them after the previous Ford Surf Van.

Round2 will have to play Mix & Match with the tooling to render the kit as shown in the box art. So, there is no telling what will be inside until we kit a kit to open.

I'm sure we'll see a built up before too long, and maybe some images of the parts themselves. The body, frame/floor, clear parts interior, etc. should all be the same as the previous curbside release, so the all-new(?) engine and restored (or all new?) retro customizing bits and accessories are still a mystery.
