  1. A '50 Ford coupe/concept owned by Billy Gibbons and fully customized by Pete Chapouris to be christened as "Kopperhed". The story is as interesting as the car! HRM January 1996
  2. A pair of '39 Chevy coupes. Wow! HRM October 1995
  3. Wonderful graphic on the 1909 - 1940 Fords. I have also used the following Ford poster to learn the differences between body styles:
  4. Speaking of art: Boyd Coddington (and Chip Foose) "Smoothster". HRM January 1995 I have built the Testors version of this car, and can attest to it being a very pleasant model to build
  5. Here is the first article I saw in HRM approaching the topic of "beaters", "rusto rods", or what eventually became "rat rods". Other magazines broached this topic earlier, but as far as I can tell, December 1994 was the first time HRM readers were treated to the topic. I myself love "rat rods" because 1) they tend to be driven, 2) they can be done by folks on a limited budget, and 3) they are counter-culture (which is always fun). The only caveat I make is that the end product have some creativity and/or talent on display. Nothing I like less than some poseur throwing a bucket of paint on a canvass and calling it art. So with that having been said, here is the first HRM article putting a shot over the bow of the established hot rod scene: A follow-up article on upcoming trends the very following month had this little spot on "rusto rides"
  6. Bring out your tissues, because this '62 Thunderbird will make you cry! HRM October 1994
  7. HRM September 1994 had an ad that got my attention with the weird vehicle in the background: Turned out to be Rick and Karen Dobbertin's "Surface Orbiter" land and sea toy. And what a cool toy it is! A milk tanker converted into a motorhome/boat. And when Rick wasn't travelling in his orbiter, he was busy racing his famous J-2000
  8. And just when I've gotten tired of Pro Street cars, comes along this sexy beast of a '67 Mustang! HRM August 1994
  9. Then comes along C.K. Spurlock's '49 Mercury "Merroder"! I never even heard of it before, and yet IMHO it's as beautiful as any other custom hitting the scene at that time. HRM December 1993
  10. Todd Jupiter '65 Corvette. Nothing but attitude coming and going... HRM November 1993
  11. This small photo caught my attention from an article on the Nationals. HRM November 1993 Very interesting modern interpretation of the lead sled...
  12. I'm starting to see the beginnings of today's hot rod aesthetic in the 90's builds. One nice example is this '72 Chevy truck done by Tim Sousamian; slammed suspension, non-essentials shaved, ultra-clean lines, two tone paint. HRM October 1993
  13. There is just something so classic about this '39 Studebaker pickup. 100 years from now, it will still be rolling art. HRM August 1993
  14. Eddie Van Halen Chevy truck. Tasteful and subdued - - - like his music! HRM June 1993
  15. I like the patina'd look on the Raul De La Torre '50 Cadillac. HRM February 1993
  16. Big write-up on Chezoom, complete with centerfold poster. HRM January 1993
  17. Good article on Kenny Bernstein's top fuel dragster. HRM January 1993
  18. Does anyone know of a 1:24 / 1:25 scale model along the lines of this car? Anything like Porkchop's Altered or Rat Fink would be great too.
  19. Roy Brizio '32 Ford Roadster with Ferrari V12! HRM December 1992 No idea when this was built, but just awesome looking
  20. Pro Street '85 Corvette. HRM October 1992
  21. Troy Trepanier '50 Buick Sedanet named "Bumongous". Don't love the name, but totally love the car! HRM August 1992
  22. This gullwing 30's coupe has a throwback vibe to the show cars of the 50's and 60's. I like its distinctiveness. HRM August 1992
  23. Sam Foose '34 Ford Roadster. HRM July 1992
  24. Boyd Coddington Alumacoupe also began in '91 and was presented to the public in '92 (although it must've gotten its moniker at a later time) HRM July 1992
  25. Just a sweet '60 Impala done the way God intended
