  1. This looks excellent, love that shiny painwork. Agree with the others' comments on the plugs and wires, too, very nice. I built one of these back in the day. The only thing I found disappointing with it is the headlamps moulded into the grill panel.
  2. Looks great, the colour really suits it. That's a very nice, clean build. The only thing I had trouble with on that kit was the tail panel and rear lamps, which I had a difficult job getting lined up straight for some reason. Yours looks fine though.
  3. Lovely paint. I was hoping to get a similar shine on my Cadillac but I don't think I'll be close! That green & chrome combo works a treat
  4. Hi folks, I thought I'd do a build thread for a change instead of just posting a finished car in Under Glass. This is the Monogram (later Revell) 59 Cadillac Eldorado. I built one when they first came out and was impressed by the detail so decided to build another, it must have been 20 years ago so it's about time! So far I have been working on the Cadillac shine: the paint is a Vauxhall (GM) colour from an aerosol can, coated with lacquer and polished. Hmm, something funny is going on with image embedding... {edit - sorted now!}
  5. Absolutely outstanding attention to detail on that chassis! The first photo looked good, but those in-progress shots are really inspirational.
  6. Beautiful paint! As said above, the stance is perfect too.

    Jaguar XJ-S

Really nice, well done on overcoming the missing parts and turning this into a good-looking build. It's a shame so few Jaguars other than the E-Type have been produced in kit form.
  8. Great finish! Looks mean, too, it demands respect in the rearview mirror.
  9. These look excellent. The Rothmans Porsche Group C cars are a fond memory from childhood, they were superstar cars in their day. Well done for turning these out so well.
  10. What a clean and smart build, I love this! Great paintwork.

    Minifest 2013.

I like it! Well done on making the Morris grill, and like others have said I really like the simple colour scheme. Bathurst must seem like a lengthy lap in a Mini, though! I know little about the circuit and races held there, would this racing class use the whole circuit complete with the long straight?
  12. Lovely clean and subtle build. I like the colour too. One of those builds that gets better and better the more you look at it.
  13. Excellent work, that Transit in British Gas livery is nostalgic in a way I would never have expected! Reminds me of a time when the Mk2 Transit was everywhere, and as for British Gas...'Cookability' and 'If you see Sid, tell him'. Nicely built, too.
  14. Unbelievable, David! I would never have thought of doing this. Great concept and so many excellent details, like the yellow insides to the airhorns ( I guess you hollowed them out?) Also glad to see that like me, you like to sand the tyres to take off the rubber shine. Also like the mini magazines inside the cab. The whole thing sits really nicely, too, and that's a lot of axles to line up. What a rig - love it.
  15. That is outstanding.
  16. Mark, the problems you had certainly don't show through the finished build, it looks great. I like how you have achieved a natural alloy look for the racing wheels and added valves. The decals have settled well, are Cartograph decals included or are they some after-market ones you found? I often fancy doing the Mk2 Escort, but based on your experience with part fit of the Fiat I imagine the Escorts are no better.
  17. Hi folks, another one gone from the stash and it’s another old 1/24 Revell/Monogram Mopar. This was a real Friday 13th build, everything I did spoiled things I had previously done. Polish the top coat? It wears through to the primer. Silver the body trim? I get silver finger marks on the vinyl roof (what am I, 7 years old?). Also, I didn’t like the look of the stock air cleaner and rubber surround, so I got a chrome triple-carb air cleaner from the spares box, and cut my hand putting the spares box back in the cupboard. Somebody, somewhere didn’t want me to finish this one! Anyway, this build was part of Operation Reduce-Stash so I needed it done quick and good enough to display at home. Next time I’m going to do something less stressful, like a Pocher Mercedes. Thanks for looking.
  18. Brilliant. This thing is so clean that I had to look twice to appreciate the quality of the finish and detail, it is so subtle and well finished. As said above, the engine wiring and panel lines put this over the top. Nice to see an early Countach too.
  19. Might have to get a couple of these when they are out. Weirdly, I've always wanted a 'Fox' since Agent Starling drove one in Hannibal. It would be good to recreate one of the 'Mobile' chase cars used to guide the USAF U-2 spy plane in on landings at RAF Alconbury, down the road from where I grew up. They used 5.0s because they needed a good fast car to run alongside incoming U-2s, see this website by somebody who restored one: http://www.sspmustang.org/features/USAF_SSP.htm
  20. Superb clean build, I like how you have modelled the negative camber on the rear wheels which is typical of a lowered air-cooled VW.
  21. Looks great, I don't recall ever seeing a Heller Bugatti before. It looks like quite a nice kit, and your build really brings out the detail and graceful shape.
  22. Yes, that's why I always end up returning to military modeling. A really nice idea and well put together. I like the extended front suspension on this engineless Super Bee, so typical of incomplete 'easy projects' often posted on ebay!

    Audi R8 Spyder!

Excellent build. I am currently trying to improve my paint finishing and this is very inspirational to see.
  24. Thanks for the kind comments folks. I hesitated to post it because you must all have seen a million OOB muscle car builds before, but in the end I wanted to show it off! Also, despite being a major American car fan since my childhood, this was the first Mopar muscle car I have ever built for myself. Lee, the body colour is actually purple: I used a Ford Europe colour called Ford Purple Velvet from a standard aerosol can. It was a colour used on some British Fords like the Granada, Capri and Escort. Luckily the 'runner didn't flinch too much when I sprayed the ford paint on You are absolutely right, I really ought to BMF the window trim but I REALLY hate doing it! It is my least favourite job on any build. The trouble is, I am fairly OK at detail painting and I can silver paint the window trim in 15 minutes, whereas doing it with BMF takes a whole evening and lots of swearing. But.... the BMF looks 10 times better. I suppose I should up my game and stop being so lazy
  25. Hi folks, here is my just-finished 70 Roadrunner. This is the Revell/Monogram kit with a section of road printed on the bottom of the box. Quite a nice kit, a bit simplified in places but then I suppose it is getting on a bit now. It’s a while since I made one of the old Monogram 1/24 kits and they really are nice. One thing to bear in mind if you pick one up is that the decal film had yellowed with age, hence why I left off the ‘440+6’ hood decals. This was my first serious attempt at wet sanding and polishing: primed in white, wet sanded with 1500 grit, sprayed with body colour and wet sanded with 1500 then 2500 grit, then lacquered and wet sanded with 2500 grit, then polished with G3 cutting compound. It is not perfect and not as glossy as it could be, but I learned some good lessons and I am happy with it. Thanks for looking.
